The bed and room was comfortable for the most part. The mini-split wasn't quite adequate to cool room some of the time. I had called and asked if there was a mini-fridge in room about a week and a half before arrival and was told there was. None when we arrived. The bathroom had almost zero places to set anything. My wife had to put a towel in sink and put her makeup on top of it. For the breakfast if you like quiche and French toast you will find. We were there for 6 days and that is all they had except sausage 2 days with it for the hot part of meal. I asked if they ever had plain eggs and the answer was no. She said, we try to make it tasty. They don,t cook it themselves. It is brought over from The Island House. They same owner owns both places. read more

We loved spending the night on the island after many day trips. Our hosts John and Cathy were very accommodating with afternoon tea and cookies and breakfast in the morning. We enjoyed the rocking chairs on the front porch. Next time, I would be sure to get a room with a private bathroom but it was only a problem in the morning when others needed it too. This review is actually for Pine Cottage's sister B&B, Chateau Lorraine, which is two feet awy. There's not a separate listing, so bear with me, folks! Both are family-owned places that have been around a looong time. I believe Pine Cottage was where Hemingway spent his honeymoon? First things first. Considering that the Grand Hotel (the big mama of the island) wanted $600 something per night, you can't beat price of $75 and change for a room at the Chateau Lorraine. And, the breakfast offerings in the morning were great. Homemade breads, pastries, quiche, coffee, and orange juice. Just be warned it's served from 8 to 10am, and the old people staying there will BEAT YOU DOWN at 8:01am. (My grandma was one of them.) The rooms are tiny, quaint, grandma-ish, and perhaps a bit on the shabby side. Hence it being so cheap. We didn't bother using the AC unit, but there was one in the window. The B&Bs have shared bathrooms (European style!) so you have the awkwardness of sharing a toilet and standing shower with STRANGERS. But it wasn't TOO bad. The second floor had a little table with tea and water always available. My only complaint was the owner's daughter, who was the caretaker of the place and the one serving breakfast every morning. She was definitely on the sullen side and made you afraid to ask for anything. I understand serving fat old people breakfast every morning must get pretty old, but c'mon, you're on a beautiful island! Surely life isn't that miserable. I was hoping for a kindly old lady to serve me muffins instead... Still, for the price and close location to the main strip of town, it can't be beat. I'd maybe stay at Pine Cottage next time. The bathrooms are smaller but it looked a little more well-kept. Great front porch to sit on and watch the obese tourists wobble on by into town to buy more fudge. read more

The stay and accommodations were excellent.  The room is super clean, the bed is quality & comfortable and Pine Cottage  has a cottage/B&B feel without feeling old. The breakfast being prepared on premise and hot are a step up from similar accommodations. The front porch is perfect for having coffee and watching the world go by. Stayed here for a night but could have easily stayed a day or two more. I love the location its a little "out of town" but its perfect because you have a very nice walk back from main street. We showed up a little early for our reservation and we were able to leave our bag so we could explore. They also have a restroom in the check in area just an FYI. The staff there was nice. They offer a breakfast in the morning which is very basic but nice to have. It consisted of toast and fruit and some sausage. The room we booked was very comfy. We went in September and I was scared we were going to be cold but it was perfect. I booked this place because I absolutely love the bath tubs. I know this sounds silly but it gives it a feel that perfectly complements the whole island feel. Room was very clean! read more

DO NOT TAKE ANY VALUABLES OR LEAVE THEM IN YOUR ROOM. I placed a ring that was an heirloom from my Grandmother in the back drawer of our room. (It was cold out and the ring was slipping on my finger). We checked out and I was horror stricken to find I had forgotten it. We called while on the Ferry to the mainland and told Andrew & Emily about leaving it and where they could find it and they said they couldn't find it. I was beside myself. Seriously people! Someone has stolen it and I am heart broken! None of the management mentioned checking into this for me or really questioning the maids. I think this has happened before because most organizations hide these issues from the public. I have reported this as stolen to the police (who have told me Pine Cottage is not cooperating with them) and will continue to make inquiries and will also be coming back to inquire personally because someone is not trustworthy there. I would encourage the management to take this situation seriously because you do have someone stealing on your staff. I don't EVER complain like this because I've enjoyed my stay in the past (stayed with my daughter in July but didn't have any valuables on that trip). But when management blows me off and says that their employee's are all trustworthy when my ring was stolen, this is WITHOUT A DOUBT, a company that does not take action for crimes committed on their property. Look into it Pine Cottage! You need to report this to your local authorities as well and show that you are serious about your guests security when they pay to stay with you! Nice old inn, great location, but rooms were Spartan. Nothing but a bed and table. Bathrooms desperately in need of updating. All rooms are up a steep flight of stairs to the 2nd or 3rd floor. Staff in friendly, porch is lovely, and the place is spotless. But the price for Mackinac Island can't be beat. read more

Pine Cottage is a pretty decent B&B on Mackinac Island. One thing I will say is that the ladies who run the place are very pleasant and accommodating. The place itself though, is quite antique-y. Some people will rave on this and others may not, so it probably varies by personal interests. It is definitely a great rate for a couple nights stay on the island, given the higher costs of some of the other places. Few things that are nice about it: - There is a TV in the bedroom (some B&Bs may not have this) - Can easily get rooms with private bathrooms - Clean (though age of the place does show despite how much they clean it) - They have air conditioning for those hot days and heat for the cooler ones. - Free WiFi Now a couple downsides: - I wouldn't say breakfast had a large selection as some other reviewers have mentioned. There were a few sugary items (danishes, chocolate bread pudding), hard boiled egg, fruits, and some cereal. Kind of your standard if you ask me. Also, it was only open for like an hour and change beginning at around 8am. - Rooms: verrry oldish style. The standard single bed room has a full (not really queen) bed. And that bed feels old in that it would squeak every time I moved a couple inches. - Bathroom: Also really old looking. The water pressure isn't the greatest from the sink and the temperature on the shower maxes out to slightly more than lukewarm Although it does get the job done. Overall, would I stay here again?...I may. While it does have it's negatives, it's in a convenient place near the main action and easy walking distance to nice sites. The people are nice, the rooms suffice, and the cost can't really be beat by most others. But that's not to say that it doesn't have it's own downsides. read more

We stayed at Pine Cottage and felt a little skeptical when we checked in. The look and feel of the place screams "old grandma" from the lobby to the rooms. We didn't mind sharing a bathroom, but the claw foot tub and "old-tyme" faucets for the shower were an absolute disaster when it came time to shower... Breakfast was pretty bad too. Great on a budget if you plan to spend no time at the hotel and don't care about free breakfast... For a couple staying for their 6-year wedding anniversary, we probably should have gone somewhere else. read more

This place scared the sh!t out of me at first. I was skeptic, but ended up having a very nice stay here! It's hidden from the hustle and bustle of the Main Street, giving it a decent amount of privacy. Enough beds to accompany a large family and friends! My only qualm is the greeting lady, a bit rude and stand offish. However, she didn't intrude much. This place was definitely haunted, and that was later confirmed by a local bartender. He had the same story to tell that matched what we experienced... Someone running up and down the hAll at night time. Whoa!!! Totally harmless, an peaceful. ABSOLUTELY AFWUL CUSTOM SERVICE!!!! Manager Carol at the island house was so rude and not helpful at all. They ruined our honeymoon all because of THEIR mistake on booking. And don't come here and expect " breakfast" because all they do is set packaged cereal out for you. And also, there's no vents or air in the place so it's miserably hot in the rooms. I'll gladly give my business elsewhere on the island. I definitely don't recommend this place. read more

Stayed here for one night and we were very impressed! We were able to check in early to get ready for our friends wedding, we had a bedroom with a community bathroom. Bedrooms and bathrooms were clean, bed was cozy and the air conditioning was a nice surprise. Biscuits and gravy in the morning really sealed the deal. We will definitely be back! read more

Stayed at the Pine Cottage B & B for 2 nights in August with my husband. You can't beat the price and location close to downtown. We opted to pay a little extra to have our own private bathroom as compared to sharing. The house itself is old but cute. Our room was big enough for us, and had a small AC unit which was nice. The bathroom had a clawfloot tub with a not so sturdy shower installed but we didn't have any issues with it. Breakfast was basic with a few options but was still nice to have available. Overall, this place was good for us as we didn't spend much time in the room and it had everything we needed for a very reasonable price. Staff was friendly also! read more

We loved Pine Cottage. We were there for 2 nights in June. The location is perfect. It's close to town, but just removed enough to where it's quiet and peaceful. We fell asleep to the sound of horses walking down the street. I loved the decor. It's 150 years old and has tons of character. It was very clean, and a great price, especially compared to other options on the island. It has a lovely wrap around porch. The breakfast was simple, but yummy, and we enjoyed eating it in the dining room. 4 PM tea and cookies were nice too! The employees were really kind. We stored luggage there until we were ready to leave. Pine Cottage fits with the feel of the whole island. We hope to come back in the future! read more

A delightful experience!! My mom and I traveled to Mackinac Island for the weekend and we were fortunate enough to stay at Pine Cottage B&B. We had a room with two double beds that had a lovely view of the water. The women who ran the place were very friendly and welcoming. I also loved that the B&B is so close to all of the shops and bike rental places downtown. I will be coming back again! read more

We really enjoyed staying at this B&B. It is an older place so if you are looking for hot tubs and over the top amenities this is not the place for you, but it is located very close to main street while still being peaceful and quiet. Colleen has a complete knowledge of the island and provided great recommendations for things to do. Note: The island does not have a recycling program but the folks at Pine Cottage do their best to recycle the items they can and be mindful of the environment. read more

The quiet location is an easy walk from the ferry just off the main street. There is a slight climb up a side street at the end of the walk, but don't worry there are several rocking chairs on the lovely porch so you can relax and take in a view of the lake before you check in. Colleen, resident manager, was very welcoming and helped us several times throughout our stay. The room was dated, the beds were a bit squeaky, but everything was clean and comfortable. The was a delightful breakfast with eggs, breads, fresh fruit, yogurt, and dry cereals. Coffee, tea, and water were available throughout the day. Prior to booking the hotel we did not know that it is on a list of haunted hotels on Mackinaw. Upon further research, Room 4 (our room) is the only room with activity. We had things moved, heard knocks on the door when it was open and no one was outside of it, we heard far off screams at night, and a voice in the bathroom. I would return to stay again but maybe in another room so my stuff and sleep is not disturbed. read more

Chateau Lorraine... It doesn't get any more romantic then out of the pages of the classic film "Somewhere In Time" . The mood set from the parlor, where you are greeted by the 'haunting' melody of original baby grand piano...all the way into every bedroom on the third floor where you can hear the am and pm magical clomping of the infamous horse drawn carriages outside the lacey flowing curtains that danced in the magical breeze of the Island Of Mackinac... Marci and staff... Thank you for your lovely breakfast prepared so carefully for all of the interesting guests we encountered during of the three day celebration for my 65th special birthday.. My new husband and I stayed here and we loved it. I wasn't sure about the shared bathroom but we never had a problem. Friendly host and hostess and very nice breakfast. Food was presented very lovely and very flavorful. I'm not a fan of blueberries but those muffins were delicious. It was off Main Street and it was very quiet. We thought we were the only guests and then they started coming to breakfast. Loved the Victorian feel. Will go back again, maybe our first anniversary! read more

Many years back, I used to work on the Island, and I'd heard that Pine Cottage was a terrific B&B ... but I'd never stayed there. But recently I visited the Island again (for the first time in a very long while) and I had a terrific 3-night stay! My room was very clean and cozy, and especially considering the high rates for accommodations elsewhere on the Island, it was a great value. Even though the place was fairly busy while I was there, it was still quiet, and I enjoyed meeting some of the other guests. (Pine Cottage has a lovely porch where people chat and have coffee and so on.) The owner of the place, Lorraine, was super kind and friendly; she knows the Island extremely well and she had lots of stories about what has changed over the years, and what has stayed the same. I also chatted with one of the women who worked there (Marci, if I recall), and she too was nice. The spread they put out each morning is amazing! Pine Cottage is right off the main street, near the marina, so it's a just a very short walk to the center of downtown. All in all, this place is an incredible value. I've already made plans to return again in the fall! read more

We usually stay next door but waited too long to make reservations and they were booked. They suggested we try Chateau Lorraine and I'm glad they did. We stayed in room #4, shared bath with 2 double beds. The staff were all helpful and friendly and work hard to make your stay pleasant. Breakfast is nicer than other places we've stayed and you're left to eat on your own. At other B&B's the host will join you which can sometimes be awkward. The back courtyard could use a good gardener but we sat outside and enjoyed a nice glass of wine (or two). The first night I was awakened by someone out in the hall. I got up and looked out the door to see who was out there and a man walked by and made his way up the stairs to the 3rd floor. I didn't have my glasses on and things were a little blurry and I thought it was another guest who had come down to use the bathroom...we didn't speak. While I was up I decided to also use the bathroom which was at the other end of the hall. When I came out the gentleman staying in the room across the hall was standing in his doorway looking up and down the hall. I acknowledged him but we didn't speak. The second night I was dead dog tired from exploring the island and fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow and slept through the night. The next morning I had trouble unlocking the door to our room and asked my traveling companion to help me. As he made his way to the door he says "hey, who was that guy that came in the room last night and asked me if I was ok"? He went on to tell me that he woke up during the night and there was a man standing over the bed. He touched him on the shoulder and asked if he was ok then turned around and left...through the door. He thought the man might have been wearing some type of military uniform but wasn't sure. It was a dark color though like the man I had seen the night before.
