Dandelion Botanical has a slew of fun herbs, tinctures, essential oils, balms, books and much more to peruse. I was particularly impressed with some of their natural moisturizers which I generously used on my hands a multiple of times while exploring the store. I was tempted to stock up on a variety of natural products here, but ended up just purchasing a couple of darling tins of Amarelli Rossano liquorice. If you're not familiar with the brand - they're wonderful! Pure little pieces of handmade liquorice - free of any sugar and additives. They're perfect for sucking on during the day and after meals. Excellent guidance, with the person who helped me each time being very knowledgeable and able to get what I needed. I read one reviewer feeling she was condescended to, and I was surprised. Very pretty store, vintage looking, old jars full of herb, goodies for the body and the soul. Smells gooood, feels good to be there. Initially, I thought this store was a flower shop. I was attracted to the floral arrangement and also the nicely wrapped chocolates made in San Francisco (that is what I actually ended up buying! a little pricey but dark chocolate with figs is also good for the soul). I love the quality of the store. Unfortunately I was not impressed with how I was treated. Staff member was very condescending. Still spent $87 but made a point not to go to her register. The younger woman who checked us out was very grounded and polite. That's what I would expect from a place of wholistic care. Stepping into a shop for healing that looks like you have stepped into a scene from Harry Potter! This place is wonderful for finding herbs, essential oils, etc. that revolve around the healing of the human being. I was drawn in by the beautiful exterior; lush, tropical plants framing the huge window signage, made it feels exotic and inviting. Immediately upon entry, I was intrigued with a display carrying the many flower essences they have available. $7.50 for a single vial, complete with brochures to take home. I chose the Olive essence. Candles, vitamins, incense, lotions and potions, herbs and even a small area full of crystals and stones! I was shocked at the low prices, so I picked out a beautiful uncut, clear quartz ($3.50) and two small, semi-translucent blue stones ($.40/each). A newbie when it comes to flower essences, the employee who checked me out gave me just enough info about how to use them and welcomed me back if I had any further questions. I can't wait to come back! If the essences end up working for me, this will be a regular stop!!! read more

What a sweet little spot that only ever grows sweeter. I've got chamomile and linden flowers huddled up in little brown paper bags next to me. This evening is going to be an exquisitely relaxing one. This is my first choice for bulk herb in Seattle. Their selection is best and I believe that they maintain a high quality by keeping an eye on turnover and via the use of amber glass jars (ethical/quality sourcing is a given for me to patronize a place). I don't want to fault the other local companies too much for not having the jars, as they aren't made any more and are hard as shit to get your hands on, but Dandelion DOES have them and deserves the credit for it, as no doubt they do help protect the herbs from some fraction of inevitable oxidation. So the keynote for this place is herbs. They also have a fairly broad selection of the standard Boiron homeopathics, however in 30C only. Flower essences and essential oils, too. For fixed oils, etc. they do have all the standards, but it's not really what they DO, I feel like you can get a better price/more specifically what you want elsewhere (read: Zenith). I do really like the beeswax to be acquired here however - smells amazing - so good that I'm willing to use a grater instead of buying the little pearls. They have a large selection of TCM patent teapills at the typical price; LOADS of herbalism and related fields books, both at a professional level and beginner/gift sort of things; lots of teas and paraphernalia, gift ideas, jewelry, etc. The final thing is that I really like the staff here, particularly the owner. The recommendations I've heard them give to all, from neophytes stumbling in wild-eyed, confused, and nervous, but wanting to try the herbal thing, to laypeople with a history of herb use and wanting some refreshers/advice, to my naive-but-think-I-know-what-I'm-talking-about questions/prying have been really good. you know that smell when you walk into an aveda salon? You know the one that smells soooooo good, the one you just want to find and spray all over your home? Well thats how Dandelion Botanical Compay smells... except about 10 times better! I wandered in here randomly yesterday waiting for Thaiku to open its bar and I was thrilled at what I found! Dried herbs, spices, teas, roots, fruits, flowers and plants of all varieties. I had visions of ginsengy infused vodka and hibiscus tinted simple syrups flying about my head as I gawked at the wall crammed with beautiful brown jars brimming with possibilities. The herbs weren't the only things that caught my eye, beautiful cards and teapots cluttered the central tables as well as teas, balms and boxes all waiting for someone to fall in love and take them home. The left wall has beautiful yet hilarious mexican votive paintings which I am going to have to go back to buy one of these days. Their prices were not unrealistic for what you were buying and you could buy in the 1/8 ad 1/4 ounce if you want so just enough to get the experiementation going. The lady was quite nice and very helpfull and quite patient with me considering I was in there later in the day and wasn't buying anything right then. I will be venturing back here soon. read more

Unlike most places I've gone to for botanical supplies, this store has no other focus. Their passionate attention to the needs of herbalists are their raison d'être. An excellent selection in both quality and variety of herbs, herbal products and all the traps and trimmings to DIY, including classes I wish I could take. The ambiance is earthy and inspiring. If you are unsure how to put something together, just ask. Sometimes, they offer free or low cost talks or workshops. So, you may want to check out their website. They will also special order herbs/products/oils for you if they don't have it in stock. Dandelion Botanical is a little haven in Old Ballard. Once you step inside you feel very welcomed and relaxed. As others before me have said, they offer a very extensive collection of herbs and, like their website says, they "make a special point of buying from organic and ethically wildcrafted sources when available." I love the classes. I could spend my entire paycheck on just their classes. They are worth 10x what you pay. Right now they have a 10-week course going teaching you how to make your own herbal medicines. Where else can you go to learn how to make your own herbal suppository?! read more

Herbs are less expensive here than anywhere else I've been and they have organic varieties of almost everything. It's always so much fun to visit the shop and talk to the highly educated herbalists behind the counter. I really liked walking into this store and feeling relaxed, immediately. The smells were great, not overpowering and not too subtle either - just right. I like that the herbalist wasn't too pushy, but she was extremely helpful. I was looking for rose oil and man, let me tell you...their rose oil smells really great! It's pricey, but rose oil of any quality will be anywhere you buy it. Don't be fooled by the $12.99 special you can get online either - it's always diluted and you'll be disappointed. Been there and done that! Spending the extra money for quality is what I'm all about, it's just worth it. The dram will last you a very long time if you use it right. Wow! This place smells so good when you walk in! I bought a candle here! They have a great selection of herbs, about every kind you could want! They have alot of great smelling soaps too! They have books on herbs and different smelling lotions and incense as well! I believe the jewlery they sell is local too! The interior is very warm and inviting, it makes you want to stay awhile! The staff were very pleasant. You never feel rushed when going in here. They're the places i think about when I get home and say, "hmmmm, I love that place". So: I love Dandelion Botanical Company, they are the awesomest! They are in Ballard in a wonderful location on Ballard Ave, but I've been frequenting Dandelion since they had the place in Fremont. I like this space a lot better - their book section is right by the windows where I can read very well. They have a great selection of herbs, books, homemade soap (love their lavender soap- smells great and is beautiful), tea, incense and, of course, Theo's chocolate. They also have herb classes that are taught by several different instructors. I haven't taken a class yet, but I plan to in the future. The owner ( Mary Kachi I believe) and the staff who have waited on me have all been knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful. This is one of my favorite shops in all of Seattle. read more

Definitely one of the best places in the Pacific Northwest to get all kinds of culinary, personal care, and tea-related herbs and accessories. They also have teapots, storage containers, and a knowledgeably curated selection of natural personal care products. And interesting chocolates :-) I primarily go there for bulk dried herbs and teas. They have high enough turnover with most of their stock that you are getting fresh goods. Note that they can get busy weekend afternoons especially during Sunday farmers market day around the corner, so plan accordingly. I placed an order and received something that smelled like cleaning chemicals. Not only did they not take responsibility for their overpriced items, but they made me pay to ship it back to them so they could look it over. The lady that runs the place, Mary, then claimed she didn't smell anything even though when I took it to the post office, the clerk said that he could smell it through the box. She then lectured me about how it was my fault and barely agreed to a refund. Totally gadzooks at this place. read more

After hearing a close friend of mine rave about Dandelion Botanicals and overhearing someone else talk about it recently, I finally took the drive and made a stop in. Parking in the area can be a pain so I was happy to find street parking and a parking lot nearby. There was a nice selection of oils, small gem stones and body products as well as books, unfortunately the staff wasn't as pleasant as everything else in the store. The two staff that "helped" me were both extremely rude and short with their answers. One opted to point instead of lift her head from her paperwork and use her vocabulary skills and the other employee responded to another customer in the store that she had all ready given me the answer to their question a few minutes before. Rude rude rude. I will continue to do my shopping elsewhere as there's no shortage of botanical and gem shops in the area. read more

We ordered several botanicals for our home-made fig bitters. The products arrived in double sealed pouches and well packed for shipping. The products themselves are of exceptional quality. We will definitely order from Dandelion again. Their customer service is also excellent. I received a call regarding a portion of my order that was not available in the form I requested. The rep stated that a powdered form was available and it was my choice to either wait or substitute. I appreciate the call and the fact that I was given options. As soon as I walked in I asked a few question about he items and asked if one bottle had a tester. No it didn't said the manager. Then as I walked around looking for some aromatherapy to purchase I began to notice I was being completely ignored. I started toward the door and found a sample of an oil I really liked. I applied a little to my wrists. The manager saw me and told me it was for smelling only, with quite a pointed glare. I thought applying a sample is part of the purchasing experience. Evidently not. So as I left the store, I said thank you. The manager reply quite sarcastically " Yeah. See ya." I felt unexpectedly insulted. As I walked away I wanted to buy that lovely fragrance but there was no way I was going back to give my money to such a rude girl. She should get a job not involving working with the public or in sales. This is the first negative review I have ever given. read more

Maybe the stars were aligned to create discord in that particular place, at that particular time. Maybe perhaps the person who was working the counter (on Monday August 5th between 4-5:30pm) had just heard that a close relative or loved one had been in an accident and I just happened to be the one person in the store to receive her misplaced discontentment. This is all, I think, a possibility. So as not to be perceived as insensitive my hope is that she will find peace in whatever unfortunate situation she might be dealing with and in reality all is well and continues to be so. But, in the event that this shop, or this person, do treat people improperly on a regular basis, such as I was treated, and then subsequently ignored. I have some pieces of advice for her and Dandelion Botanical Company. 1) Do not assume that the gentleman and his loved one do not have the financial wherewithal to purchase your product. 2) If you do happen to judge them as not being able to purchase or afford your goods by whatever preconceived notion you may have made. For God sakes if you do not want them to post something critical of your actions when a customer asks, "Do you mind if I spray this on my wrist?". Please do not respond by saying, "Actually, I do mind." "We are reserving it for someone who is going to purchase the product." 3) If you actually have the fortitude to say that to a potential customer be sure to apologize immediately. I would also suggest that you not ignore them afterward to stew in their own confusion and embarrassment. 4) In the future, please make available a tester spray so as not to have another unfortunate incident. 5) Knowing full well the irony of beseeching someone to not judge you while posting comments on a website designed to judge organizations, and a great deal of the time nonconstructive. I will still ask respectfully. please do not judge people such as was done to my mother and I. I sincerely hope that your business does well. I wish the best for you as well as the lady with whom this unfortunate event took place. It is a blessing to have stores like yours providing quality goods and services to the people of Seattle and I am grateful for all that you do for your very supportive customers. But I cannot with clear conscious give you any stars. I will not go out of my way to speak ill of your store, but if I were asked by anyone I know about your business I will relate this story to them and that is all. This place is cute and has that whole apothecary feel down. Again, another place we weren't really greeted so it wasn't as welcoming or warming than the interior makes it seem. We also thought there'd be more plants inside with the word botanical and all--only a few bigger plants by the front window display. I found this store through a Yelp search because I wanted to try buying my essential oils (EO) more locally before using Amazon or other online retailers. You can't smell through a screen, after all... PROS: -good website to browse their goods. Nice location near NW Market St. -great layout of the store (cozy yet enough room to browse even when other customers come in). -The customer service person was very knowledgeable about my questions. -I could smell any of the EOs before buying. And they had the variety I was looking for, at a reasonable price. CONS: -parking can be a pain, though this is Seattle in general if you don't plan ahead. -When I entered I was the only person there, yet didn't get greeted (though we saw each other). From a customer service standpoint, I thought that was odd, since I'd rather acknowledge whoever enters, the customer service can set the whole tone of the experience. But that wasn't enough to make me leave, and I do prefer browsing at my own pace. This is the same clerk who answered my questions and gave good advice--just putting this out there that she proved to be awesome. The website has the rest of their goods. Dandelion is really the only authentic, full service, reliable, knowledgeable herb store in the Seattle area. There are others in a pinch but this is the place to start. The only reason I am giving this 2 stars is because the prices are very reasonable. Other than that, some of the rudest customer service. My boyfriend and I walked in and had been ignored the entire time, not even one greeting. Then when it came time to ask some help, the sales associate looked so annoyed that we even asked. Was not helpful, kind or friendly. Then proceeded to again not be helpful. I am so bummed because I was so excited to try this new shop in my neighborhood, only to be let down by the terrible customer service. This isn't a place for a quick stop unless you already know what you're looking for or need.
