We didn't even get to try Dandy Don's. They close up shop if there is any hint of rain. We even tried to call, but there was no answer. We were so excited to try the boardwalk cars. I wish they had longer hours. Do people really only go to the beach from 6:30- 11? Very disappointing. read more

Really fun beach experience. The boardwalk is crowded, but these have a horn. Which is fun, the kids loved honking it and people do move or look when you do. Everyone seems to be riding a bike on the boardwalk and it's a great family outing! This place was very personable. The guy helped us picks which bike was best for us....discussing options and helping the kids. We ended up with the small surrey. It's hard to bike! Especially when one person does most of the peddling as in my case. :) We didn't use the full hour although we anticipated going over. It was a great way to see what the boardwalk had! Took the family to rent a large surrey this morning. It was the best way for my mother in law to see the board walk. She would never be able to walk as much as we were able to pedal her around. My littlest loved the little horn attached to his special basket up front. Everyone knew we were coming. It was hilarious and so much fun for him. It was a great experience to ride up and down the boardwalk. I got my workout in this morning that is for sure. The rental process was quick and easy. We were check in and on our way in no time. Upon bringing the surrey back it was just as quick to settle things up. My oldest wants to try a banana bike so we will be back before our vacations ends!!! read more

When we arrived to OC we had an ocean front room and noticed these "cars" moving slowly up and down the boardwalk. I quickly realized they were pedal cars or quad bicycles. I determined we would rent one to enjoy the day with. On our last day we went to the first spot we found. The owner and assistants were nice people. They answered questions we had. We paid $28/hr for 1 hour on the 4-6 person pedal car. The only downside is and why I'm giving a 3 star is that this business operates based on the owners primary work schedule and this bike rental appears to be a secondary job? So could only rent for the hour because the owner had to get to his next job. So we rented from 12-1pm. I'm not sure how they make this work as a means of income. Other bike rentals run later and the masses of people really pickup after 1pm. We made the most of it and will consider a different bike rental in the future with a longer time allotment. But if these guys can make it work I'll prefer to return here since I was treated with respect and they were quite pleasant to talk to. We talked about bike pricing and such after drop off and had a nice conversation there. We need someone trained to help keep this spot open for longer times while the owner works. We'll be returning soon. Will see if anything changes. read more

It is very much as good as it gets! Don was amazingly accommodating. We had 11 people including small children. He set us up for the perfect experience in two large surreys. His equipment is in excellent shape. He gave very good and clear directions how to operate the equipment. He honored a coupon even though we forgot to bring it with us. For $20 (!) we got a Surrey which is like two bikes fixed together as a little cart and with a canvas roof on top. Only one person gets to steer although both pedal! This is definitely worth doing on the boardwalk when it's not too crowded. Make sure you get a Surrey with a squeaker horn on it so you can toot fellow pedallers! Lucky for me Dandy Don's was located right in the back of my hotel. I purchased a coupon for $5 off right here on Yelp. The price is already great. $25 for an hour on 4 person tandem bike. So getting a coupon was just a bonus. It took two seconds to hand him my id, get a quick tutorial on how to ride the bike and we were off. Checking out was equally quick. We looked this place up and went here because of the banana bikes. We rented one of the large family bikes, a ladies' bike, and two banana bikes. We got there at 10:30 so we only rented for a half an hour, but our prices were pro-rated! Joe was so friendly and professional. He even guided my sister on the banana bike and let my cousin try one when we came back. Overall, we truly enjoyed ourselves and the customer service was excellent. We tried out Dandy Dons because we had a coupon for rent one get one free. The cruisers they gave us were old and needed repair, they were definitely not worth $7 an hour. They were very uncomfortable to ride and were in worse condition than the $5 an hour cruisers that we rented the day before from 16th St. bike rentals. I should've known when we got there and saw them repairing bikes that we were in for a bad experience. And then when we returned the bikes in agony from riding them, They were still working on bikes. I didn't see any repair work going on at any of the other bike rental places as we road up and down the boardwalk. Some of their other bikes looked newer so don't be afraid to speak up and ask for a newer piece of equipment unlike I did. read more

I stopped off here last week as I had just gotten my new Trek bike and was having a heck of a time trying to raise my seat (it was super tight). I had asked the gentleman (whom I'm assuming was Don) if he could kindly help me - I had the wrench, just not the man power to turn the screw. He was super polite and had me come into the shop where he adjusted my seat at no charge. He was really nice - took him all of 5 minutes and had me going on my way for a 20 mile bike ride.
