It's not free and $10 for out-of-state residents is not too expensive. Thankfully, I stopped in late in the afternoon and there was no ranger at the kiosk or I would have turned around. I parked and spent about 20 minutes enjoying the beach and the sunshine. The beach is beautiful. No trash, firm sand and a smooth include down into the water. The waves were pretty calm today which was good because I did not spot any lifeguards on duty. A great spot to spend some time at the ocean. We came here for a family photo shoot. THE PARK: Parking/entry fee was $10 for state residents and $20 for all others, paid via a machine. By the time we got here the facilities up front were closed so I have no idea what was available sans for restrooms and an outdoor shower. According to the website, shower and changing facilities are available, along with a food concession, chair & umbrella rentals, even a Mobi-Mat which allows wheelchairs to be pushed onto the beach (such a great idea). The sandy area is very wide and stretches for 3 miles with zero shady spots or trees. Lifeguards were gone for the day with their stands turned upside down. I noticed some vehicles actually parked on the beach near the northern end, a very cool perk that is not allowed back home. Ocean conditions were fairly calm but most folks were in waist-high water at most. OVERALL: Spacious real estate, but coming from Hawaii, my expectations are set too high, LOL. read more

Bottom Line: Access to a beautiful wide beach with a bath house and parking lot. Even on a super cold and blustery February day I can't resist the beach! Rather than using the beach access close to our hotel my husband and I ventured to Fenwick Island State Park hoping that it would offer easy access and great views which it did. The main part of the park is on the East side of Coastal Highway and provides access to the Atlantic Ocean. But, the park also includes land on the other side of the highway that offers access to Assawoman Bay. Since we visited during the off season (November 1 through March 31) we did not have to pay the entrance fee of $5 for DE cars and $10 for all others. There is parking immediately upon entering the lot as well as on the other side of the bath house. Of course in February parking was plentiful. We used the accessible boardwalk to get up to the dune line and we enjoyed the views of the wide beach. Even on a cold morning there were several groups and dogs walking the beach. We parked on one of the perpendicular streets, paid our $10 daily fee and walked onto a fairly deserted pristine beach. Most definitely lower key than what we saw in Rehoboth. There are no concession stands or restaurants here, so you'll need to bring whatever sustenance you'll anticipate along with your beach chairs, floppy hats, and sun screen. But if all you want is a nice beach and soothing waters, you'll enjoy your time here. read more

Not sure if the park is large but my small family and I had the opportunity to stop here to enjoy the waves, sand and amazing view of the sunset! Absolutely breathtaking area for sunset views! You can sit on the sand, take your dogs, family, friends, drinks, picnic and or just sit on your vehicle as you park near the water and watch the gorgeous views. The small area even has picnic tables. Located either iff the highways you can easily miss it. Make sure to drive slowly when approaching the the park entrance. Very narrow entrance accessible from both directions of the highway. read more

Awe experience a must see if in the ocean city, Maryland area. The beach and bathhouses were very clean.

On our way home I took a detour to stop at Fenwick Island State Park. In season, the parking lot is open and charges $5 per day for (instate cars) and $10 per day for (out of state cars) personally think it should be the same. The park was deserted this cold snowy Sunday, first day of February and snowstorm on its way. The beach was lovely with a light dusting of snow. Pretty spectacular to me but I am always highly impressed with nature. Tony and I walked a little and watched the high waves crash on the sandy beach. It was beautiful and so peaceful. Low-key, beautiful beach that is away from rowdy OC crowds. A small fee of $10 is required for out of state residents which isn't bad; in state I believe pays $5. Great place to relax and enjoy the ocean waves without worry. Only thing that sucked was getting lots of sand flea bites despite being covered up. Family vacation and spend the day at the park. Plenty of parking and the bath house was nice. Was enjoyable to take a cold shower after the hot day at the beach. And nice to get all the sand off. Waves were a little high for small children, but ages 10 and up were perfect. There is a concession stand here but we didn't get anything. Nice to know though so you can plan. Great beach! $5 for in state cars payable by cash or card (at the park mobile machine) or $10 for out of state cars. This is by your license plate. A group of 8 plus 4 children enjoyed themselves at the beach with other families. There's an adjoining beach where cars can pull up to fish, etc. Be aware, there aren't any trash cans of eateries in site to buy from, so bring your own stuff and be prepared to take it back. Family friendly and pet friendly beach. It's clean, parking is pretty abundant (we got there at around 11:00am) and reasonably priced ($10 for all day parking for non-Delaware residents). Right next to the parking lot they have a public bathing area separated by men and women's bathrooms with multiple showering spots. Few things that might be helpful to know- - Trash-free park. This means whatever you bring in, you need to take with you when you leave the beach. There isn't a place that you can throw away the trash from your stay anywhere on the beach/parking area. - Life guards leave at 5pm. They make everyone come out of the water before they all leave, but it's understood that you can stay and return to the water once they are gone. - $5 In-state or $10 Out-of-state daily, all day parking. Cash and credit card accepted. - There's a sign that says that pets are prohibited. However, once you get to the beach you will find that people bring their well-behaved and friendly dogs anyway (leashed). I hope to return to this beach soon. Had a great experience. read more

I went to this beach October, a few days after being in Cancun on a resort. I can't say much for the amenities, because I did not use them. But me and my family (including two young children) went to this beach and had an amazing time. Compared to Cancun, this beach was FAR more beautiful than anything I saw Cancun. The sand is soft. Not too many people know about this place. Is about few miles north of Ocean City Boardwalk. If you are planning one day trip to OC, this is the place for you. Parking is cheap, even if you are out of state and much cheaper than parking near the Board Walk for sure. The best thing is this place has shower. Yep, you can take a shower here after a long day out in the sand. It also has a little food place where you can order the basic sandwich and such if you are hungry. Now, they don't have trashcan here so you need to haul away the trashes with you. They do provide plastic bags if you need. They do have life guards here and rent out chairs and umbrellas. I normally go here to get away from the big crowd. Then drive down there later in the day and walk on the Boardwalk to burn up the extra weight I will gain later at the Bon Fire Buffet. read more

You really can't beat $10 for parking (if you're out of state) and access to a beautiful beach. My husband and I spent the Fourth of July here because we heard that Rehoboth Beach would be packed and parking would be difficult (permits are required or you have to feed the meter). Frankly, we couldn't be happier with our choice. There were many people here - young, old, families, couples - but it wasn't umbrella to umbrella jam packed with people. The beach itself is clean, and we can help keep it that way, as it is a carry in carry out beach. FYI, between Memorial Day and Labor Day, dogs aren't allowed. read more

$10 to park here for out of state cars, but it is totally worth it to beach here! The beach is so quiet, very well maintained and I would rather come here and beach with my dog than going to OC any day! Yes, it is dog friendly!!!! This is the number one reason why we come here, our pup absolutely loves playing and chilling out on the beach. It is only dog friendly in a certain area, which is very large, no issues finding a spot to claim, just keep in mind it is the closest entrance to payment booth when you drove in. No life guards on duty, just FYI. Every time I have been here the waves seemed pretty calm, calmer than that in OC. There is a bathroom and concession stand by the parking lot. I have never used it, so I cannot say how nice it is or how good the food is, maybe one day. But definitely a bonus to have for sure! It is a take your own trash place, but they have trash bags at the entrance to the beach, which is nice. This policy seems to work as the beach is very clean and well kept. Get there early, sometimes there is a line to get into the park, because of the payment booth, and because I am sure they run out of parking spots! Lastly, the Northern most part of the park you can drive and park on the beach, which doesn't bother me until they disregard the sign where they are not allowed past and continue parking in our area. We had a jeep pull up within 20 yards of us the other day, we weren't happy about it but quickly got over it. Love Fenwick State Park! read more

As far as beaches go, this park is everything you could ask for! The sand is clean and smooth and there's a ton of space for everyone. We typically arrive between 9:00am-10:00am and leave before 1:00pm. By the time we leave, it's packed and cars are lined up waiting to get in (which they operate by letting one car in for every one car that pulls out). This can be very frustrating if you're a late riser, but that's not the beach's problem! They have a nice shower house (with hot water) and a concession area with a decent selection of snacks and goodies. I'd recommend packing your own food (way cheaper), but in a pinch the food here is pretty good. I highly recommend this beach to anyone and everyone! read more

This beach area was surprisingly neat and unpopulated! We didn't appreciate it enough until we saw how crowded other beaches (like Bethany Beach and Rehoboth Beach actually were). Nice size, few people. Downside would be fewer cafes and touristy stuff, but still enough of that :) read more

This is a quieter beach close to Ocean City. We were in the area for a wedding and had some time in between the wedding and reception. We brought our dog for a stroll and we loved it. It's not as crowded and busy as Ocean City. It was a cool day so not too many were swimming. Mostly just people walking and overlooking the gorgeous waves coming in and out. It's easy to get to. There is plenty of parking and there are a handful of motels and inns in the vicinity that make it easy to walk to. If you want to avoid large crowds and noisy boardwalk in Ocean City, this is the place for you definitely. read more

We were on our way to grab something to eat in the area when I seen the strip. After we ate we parked along the strip and went to the beach. It wasn't too much of a walk to the water but the sand was extremely hot so dont wear flip flops in Aug. The beach was quite empty for late August but I appreciated that. The waves would have a cycle of huge waves and smaller ones so be careful with the little ones. I actually loved that this beach was quiet, it was really relaxing. I layed out talking to my bf with the sound of the waves crashing on the sand. Then we would run into the water and play in the waves. It wasn't until we left that I realized we weren't in Ocean City. I would say that this beach was a few blocks from ocean city but was exactly what I wanted. Perfect to relax as the tourist don't party and act like drunk fools here. read more

I had PA temp tags after buying a new car and even after showing him my license, he persisted in charging me out of state full price. I didn't mind paying $10, it's just the little things that make a difference sometimes. This man made a nice state park look bad. Nice sandy beach. Got there early, so had no trouble finding parking and a spot on the sand. Parking is $5 for in-State cars and $10 for out-of-State cars... There are facilities to changing and shower & restrooms. Sadly no concession stand, so byo food & drink... I was impressed that they provided plastic bags (!) for your trash... what a great idea!! The beach was pretty clean (I guess people made use of the trash bags). The waves were very strong (September) so PLEASE take care, esp. with the little totts. The water was a bit cold, but it was refreshing. This was the only annoying bit...there were vicious flies that BITE!!! Nasty beasts & very painful. Nothing worked to repell them-nothing!!! Discovered that depending on the wind direction the flies come from the inland, so if you are closer to the water (or the wind is from the water) you may be ok... Overall, we had fun and lived to tell the tale. :) read more
