The first time I went to Dang for an order, I had no idea what I was doing. He walked me through everything, from design and shape, to the final design of the woodwork. tl;dr: Pros:Amazing carvings and plenty of great designs options. Cons: Lack of communication. Takes longer with paint. Don't message, just call for your order and updates. My fraternity has been turning to Dang's for paddles for the last few years since his customized paddles are amazing. Since my own big is graduating, I decided to spend the extra buck and go for the best quality paddle. I looked through their previous work and yea, the paddles live up to their reputation; however, what I didn't expect was the lack of communication and poor service. I first tried to order my product, get suggestions, recommendations and all that over the phone; however the phone call was rushed and within 2 minutes, i was transferred to someone else.... then that person told me to just message over Facebook instead and they'll respond later. OK. I send them a message, which they did not respond after Several days. So I call and a guy responds telling me he's sorry and someone will message me soon. Within the hour I get a reply; however, once I respond, the person goes offline or something and doesn't respond. Two days later, nothing. I try messaging them again; still no response after a few days. I decide to call them instead because this was like mid-April and I wanted it to be done soon (shes graduating June so I wanted to get it done and out of the way before finals week). Again, they apologize and tell me someone will respond soon (someone does within the hour). This repeats several times until I finally talk to Dang and the paddle's overall design idea is established (Nice guy, patient even though it was like a 20 minute phone call). He expressed that it was getting late and, although there were many orders, there would be no problem finishing just the carving (w/o paint) by June 1st. How dang's paddle works is they don't start on a paddle until they receive payment. Makes sense. I went the paypal route but I had an issue with paypal so i was trying to go the venmo route instead; however, i message and, again, days later, no response. I resolve the issue a few days later and message that they've received payment. No response. 5 days later I call them. Two days before the due date, June 1st, I contact dang's paddle and they said they said it was delayed due to how many projects they have going on. At this point I'm already mad; unfortunately, I already paid them so what can I do. So I ask when will it be done by, asking them if they can finish in time because my big graduation is in less than a week. No Response. And so, today (June 8th) I meet with Dang to scrap the entire order and get a refund. After seeing the amount of detail and how amazing just the carving alone was, I reconsidered. If you want your paddle made and done, constantly contact Dang. Don't message. Just call them for regular updates else yours will be late. Update: I went to pick up the paddle yesterday and, after hearing my situation (an unpainted paddle two days before its due) Dang suggested that I had the paddle painted by his painter instead. She was very nice and detailed about the color schemes and offered a very fair price for the Express paint job. The paddle looks amazing and I am quite happy that there has been regular communication and updates since. read more

I requested a 5' paddle, hinged/bi-fold, LED lights on the handle where the Greek Letters are , large mirror, Lightning bolt font letters (Hercules), symbol of my big's nickname (Hercules). I submitted my request, but there was an issue that caused it to become a rushed job. Dang rushed it and finished in a few days. He even stained, painted, and assembled the paddle for me and my twin for a little extra. I was able to pick it up the day before I was to present the paddle to my big.
