Such an unorganized office. I came in to get my annual test, and the gal told me my insurance is inactive. I asked why she didn't verify it prior to me leaving work early, then she said she made a mistake. Had my exam, dr was kind and thorough. Then I asked for a copy of my prescription. I left with somebody else's prescription, there's goes HIPPAA for whosoever paperwork I got. Tempted to post a pic of it but I won't... I call to schedule a follow up appt w the technician for glasses, and the gal at the front desk said they will call me back. two days pass, nothing. I call back and the gal says "oh ya let's schedule an appt" I asked why they didn't do this when I called the first time? No solid response. So no follow up.... I come in to see technician, and she tells me my insurance is inactive and that she can't help me. It was active two weeks ago, what changed? I told her it's her job to verify, she said no. History repeats itself as I was told last time my insurance is inactive, and yet again they make error. I drove all the way there for no reason and she was unwilling to help. They lost a patient. Also, don't buy frames here. They jack ip the prices significantly. Can find the same styles online for a much better price. Overall, the front desk and technician are extremely unorganized and unprofessional, go elsewhere and don't waste your time. Update: 3/22- I was able to go to LensCrafters and get my frames updated with the insurance Daniel Davis office claimed was inactive. Oh and the gentleman at LensCrafters offered to call to insurance himself (and it pulled up active on their computer.) that's called efficient customer service. read more

I've been a customer here for about 5 years. This office and staff are true professionals. I have bitched about some of their policies , but over all they are the best in North County. Daniel and Davis have a vast array of glasses and frames to choose from. But what impress me most are the army of diagnostic machines to test and analyze your vision with. They must have over a million dollars worth of equipment to check your eyes with. But what I've found out recently is that they really really care about the Patient and their needs. Dr Daniel's gave me a one on one after I bitched and moaned about one of her policies....she listened to my concerns...I mean really , really listened and cared. My autistic son and daughter with Down syndrome have been going for almost 20 years, and always have a comfortable experience there. No problem working with nonverbal or sensory defensive patients. We have had several vision therapist over the years at Daniel & Davis'. They all have been great but Jonathan really gets my grandson. He can work around my stubborn grandson and get him to work on his therapy. He uses a lot of different exercises which helps to keep my boy engaged. A friend highly recommended this place when I mentioned my daughter needing to be seen by an optometrist. They were fantastic! The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Dr. Davis was kind, patient, relatable and friendly. He took the time to explain everything he was doing to both me and my daughter. I had to bring my other two children to the appointment with me and even with us all in the small exam room, he was accommodating and kind. He really took time with us making me feel like he truly cared about my daughters eye health. Back today for my son's annual exam. The opthalmologist was great! However, the office has definitely changed. The check in process has changed and no longer is there an option for declining the Optoscan, it's just an either Optoscan (for $39) or dilation option. I do understand the importance of early detection of retinal issues, but the way the paper is worded really makes you feel like you're a bad parent if you don't select the Optoscan (since pediatric dilation isn't usually performed). So, I opted for the Optoscan. My son had a minor change in his prescription, so we did need to visit the optical store. There were many attempts to up sell items that weren't necessary since he only wears these when he's on the computer or doing homework, so when I declined the majority, the tone of the technician changed. I'm not a "cheapskate", but I don't understand paying for something like "Transitions" (where the lens will darken when in the sunlight) if my son won't be wearing them out in the sun! I'm considering looking for another provider at this point. read more

I found this office online through my insurance, and went in for an eye exam and to update my computer glasses. My experience was pleasant enough, but I'm not eager to recommend the office to family and friends. The staff was professional and friendly, but they did try to up-sell me often which makes me uncomfortable. When checking in for the first time I had to decline (and sign a waiver) that I did not want my eyes dilated, or pay $50 more dollars for an image of the back of my eyes. Then they recommended that I attend therapy for my eyes which is a commitment multiple times a week and quite expensive. No thank you... The selection of eye glasses was good in terms of brands and style. I'll go back next year because I liked the location of the office, and the facility itself was nice. read more

My son was almost 20 when Dr Dukes recommended him to have vision therapy once again. The first time he was prescribed it was in second grade. It had helped him a lot at that time and sustained him for another ten-plus years. This time the need for it did not come as a surprise since my son experiences a lot of anxiety, weight loss, and other issues. He had recently had to take a medical withdrawal from university to focus on his health. Dr Dukes matched my son with a therapist in their office based on his situation and personality as she has known him since he was a young kid. It was Jonathan who got my son's case. He got a tough assignment because at that time my son was in a shut down mode and mood. Although my son agreed to start the therapy, he wasn't keen to follow most suggestions. With patience and perseverance, Jonathan worked with my son to get him to open up. They worked together for about 8 months. Many times Jonathan would call me after my son's session for a followup chat. His interest in actually helping my child was very impressive and far beyond the call of duty. He offered suggestions and tips besides vision therapy that could help my son. Not only did those sessions help with my son's vision, it also helped with his confidence. The time that he spent with Jonathan sharing and explaining stuff helped him vocalize his emotions, feelings, hobbies, passion, hopes for the future. Seemingly simple things that come naturally to most were hard for him but after working with Jonathan and Dr Dukes, my son started taking interest in life again. Today he is driving himself to a local community college, decided he needs a haircut, is willing to meet people socially, travelled with us to visit his younger brother in another state. I feel comfortable leaving him at home for a few days when I need to, something that was unthinkable in the past year. My son is not too vocal with his feelings and acknowledgements but I overheard him tell my husband how his sessions with Jonathan helped prepare him for interviewing for an internship that he applied for. I thought that was the best compliment that he could give Jonathan and it is a true testimonial of how this team of Dr Dukes and Jonathan worked wonders to get my son in a good space. Dr. Daniel is the best. Been coming here for 16 years - and would not go anywhere else. Top level care and the latest equipment to ensure eye health. Optical dept. was great too. Was helped by a young lady - a redhead - Andrea was her name perhaps.. anyway - prior to helping me today - she had to help this elderly couple that would have required the patience of a saint - and she did that. We just stumbled on this practice by accident, just choosing the closest Optometrists to my office for my daughter's school eye-exam. We lucked out! We knew our daughter had one wandering eye, but had no idea how that could be affecting her. After Dr. Davis referred her to Dr. Dukes (in the same practice), who recommended testing, and then vision therapy with the Amazing Felecia, she has been transformed. Where it seemed like she was just angry and emotional all of the time, it turned out she was really just frustrated trying to make her eyes work. After 3 months of therapy, it's like we have a new kid! She's far more cooperative and attentive in class. She reads for enjoyment, and is in far better control of her emotions. Even though I'm a doctor myself, I had little understanding of how visual developmental and processing issues could affect a child's behavior and ability to function, and how easily it can be treated. Dr. Dukes is incredibly personable, and clearly passionate about her patients. Felecia, our daughter's visual therapist, has been wonderful to work with. I now recommend Daniel & Davis to all of my patients, and Dr. Dukes for all children who are having trouble in school. read more

My 5 yr old has had many many appts with multiple specialists all over the SD region. Dukes is one of our favorites and we have seen many. She is respectful , attentive and patient. My daughter is "developmentally slow" as diagnosed by her testers. So I tried everything from the moon and back to help her. I almost gave up but thanks to the iep meeting suggestions the school recommended vision therapy. Now I was skeptical at first but after meeting Jonathan, he made me feel like we could really help my daughter. After getting to really know her he would create fun lessons for her to do where she was in the moment she actually engaged in the activities. She has really come out of her shell thanks to Jonathan, she engages in conversations shes more understandable shares her day with me, even looks forward to her sessions with him. It makes thinking about the day when she won't need therapy anymore bittersweet, cause I own so much to this man. He has made my daughter into a new person. I have not had a bad experience in my few visits to this office. I was immediately greeted as I entered the door; the front desk staff is attentive and well informed of the needs of the patients. I made it on time to my appointment, so I was pre-tested in a timely manner which led to a short wait for the doctor. BTW, thanks to the technology at this office so that I no longer have to get a puff of air in my eye for whatever test it does-hooray. I like my appointments with Dr. Davis as he has a calming demeanor which is appreciated in usually tense situations at a medical/dental/vision appointment. He answers questions and does just enough talking to make me feel comfortable. If he is available, I suggest you make an appointment with him. On my first visit, my optician picked out three pairs of glasses for me to try on and that's all I needed. In fact, the first pair she chose were the pair I purchased. They are the professionals, so you should trust their opinions. I do not feel like this office tries to haggle or push any of the extras on their patients; you have to listen to what they're explaining to you. I will be back for another pair, maybe Gucci's since there is a trunk show soon. On my most recent visit, my optician was very patient with me as I attempted to put in my contacts for the first time. I did not get frustrated because she calmly explained to me after each attempt what I was not doing and how to do it better the next attempt. I would say it took 6 attempts, but seriously how weird is it to poke yourself in the eye? You can't blame me! FYI, I got each contact out in one try so hooray for me and my teacher. I have 20/15 vision with my new (contact) eyes! There is plenty of parking in the private lot for the building, which is very clean. There are lots of distractions for the children whether it is the educational movie on the flat screen, reading materials available in the waiting room or the opportunity to meet friends in the playhouse. This is a child-friendly office, so don't be afraid to bring them in (just watch out for them!). read more

They accept VSP and checked to make sure I had benefits available to coordinate a date that would allow me to pay as little out of pocket as possible. For those of you with kids they have a great variety of children's glasses and a play area. read more

After coming back for my annual check up for a new contacts prescription, I would no longer recommend this office. Dr. Davis is competent enough, but his staff is very disorganized. There hasn't been a time where I have not experienced 10+ minutes of wait time while the receptionist consults with the optical department. I think their work flow would be better improved by increased communication between staff. I've also had issues with my appointment inquires (made through their website) never being answered. Additionally, whenever I've had glasses or contact trials ordered for me from a manufacturer to their office I'm always told that I will get a call or email when they are ready for pick up, but this also never happens. Lastly, I've had to try multiple pairs of contacts to determine the right fit and prescription- when I called into the office twice to see if they had arrived (because they never call you to let you know) I was told they were on back order. Then, when I went in for a follow up appointment three weeks later, it turns out the contacts had never been ordered in the first place. I also don't appreciate how they give you the option to either have your eyes dilated or pay about $30 for a fancy eye scan without telling you you can opt out of that part of the exam altogether. Staff here is nice, but the process of exams and fittings is way more complicated and frustrating than it needs to be. read more

This is tough. On on hand I'd like to give the office 1-2 stars, on the flip side, I'm a bit too nice and sympathetic to give such a bad review. Nevertheless, here it goes. Upon arriving, I was roughly 15 minutes late, which the initial lady helping me so kindly put on my chart and circled it. After the preliminary testing, I stood in the office waiting for the doctor. It took about 10 minutes for him to get to me which I understood since I was late. The exam went quite well. He was very kind, soft spoken and thorough. However, my great impression of him ended once dilation came up. *****Let me fist disclose that I've never had my eyes dilated in the past. I don't know the standard protocol and procedures***** Moving forward, the Optometrist asked if I wanted to go with a high tech picture and pay $39 instead of getting my eyes classically dilated and I said no. He then asked if anyone was with me who could drive. I stated clearly that I drove myself. He then said, "Well, you can get them done today or when you come back to pick up your glasses later in the evening when it's not so bright outside." I said "today" since I wanted to get it over with. It was certainly an interesting experience getting my eyes dilated. I was looking at glasses and could barely see anything. The lady who was helping me pick out glasses didn't offer any of those ugly plastic sunglasses to protect your eyes from sensitivity, so I requested one myself. After choosing some glasses myself, I guess the optician thought it'd be funny to watch me pick glasses half blind without much of her assistance) I was asked to sit and wait for the doctor to look at my eyes after they had fully dilated. That took another 20 minutes. AGAIN, I was late to begin with, which the lady at the front desk reminded me when I asked what the hold up was about. Understandable, I guess. The real issue comes with the fact that I drove home that day. Until I discussed the situation with a few friends, I didn't know that when you have your eyes dilated that you shouldn't drive (at least not during the day) and I don't ever recall the doctor telling me specifically not to drive. I could have injured myself so that's why I gave this place 3 stars. Had the doctor taken the extra precaution and made it very clear that I shouldn't drive the place would have gotten a better rating-in terms of the eye exam only. Honestly though, he is a very kind man and I would recommend him for an eye exam. read more

Daniel & Davis Optometry is amazing. There entire staff is well trained in handling children and adults with disabilities. Our 1st visit, my child with Autism was about 4 years old. I had previously had bad experiences with him at the eye doctor and had to hold him tightly on my lap to get an exam done. Dr. Daniel told me there would be no need to hold him that he would do what she asked, because she asked. I laughed silently to my self, and though we shall see and then HE DID do exactly what she asked. Our entire family have been seeing their staff ever since. If you are considering Vision Therapy for yourself or child, I also highly recommend their services. Their reports are the comprehensive in the business. My other child recently had this exam and a professional at a local learning center could not believe how much the report covered. read more
