( That surgery does not make a person's eyes more moist, in fact, the surgery Weiss performed pulled my eyelids away from my eyes making them far dryer.tAfter Weisses' hack job, I had to get up several times a night to add moisturizing drops in order to be able to sleep and during the day I had to add eye drops every 10-15 min to relieve the pain while awake after Weiss screwed up my eyes. It was later discovered that WEISS HAD CARELESSLY CUT CLEAN THROUGH A LIGAMENT THAT CONTROLS THE EYE with his unskilled surgical techniques. After the Weiss horrible surgery, I consulted with many OC ophthalmologists who just shook their heads at the damage Weiss had done , but did not want to be involved in the reconstruction of my horribly damaged eyes. I was later referred to Shiley Eye Center for help. Specifically, Dr. Kikawa. Dr. Kikawa thoroughly examined my eyes then warned me that he would try to do what he could to repair the damage Weiss had done , but I could not expect to look like the "before Weiss" photos again. I really admire Dr. Kikawa's honesty. Kikawa's skilled hands did repair the damage, as much as could be repaired. Usually doctors don't want to be involved in repairing another surgeon's botched surgery, I dont blame them. However, Dr. Kikawa could see how much I was suffering and helped me when it seemed no other doctor was even willing to try. I will be grateful to Dr. Kikawa for the rest of my life.

For my visit I came in with my eyelid already swollen like a cherry tomato (I'll just let you use your imagination). Dr. Alborzian took one look at me and immediately knew I needed something called a chalazion removal (actually, I dare you to look it up). He provided me with instructions to massage the chalazion to reduce the swelling before he would drain it (disgusting, I know), because at its current state draining would be excruciatingly painful. However, since Thanksgiving was just around the corner, I didn't want to wait and have a cherry tomato for an eye when visiting my family, so I asked Dr. Alborizan to move forward with the procedure. I scheduled a follow up appointment, and he was right, it was incredibly painful - but I was in and out in about 45 minutes and grateful to have my eyelid back. Overall I had a great experience! Everything was very quick and efficient, and reasonably priced for the quality of work you receive! Dr. Alborizan is upfront and provides the best options for you.

On the positive side, the surgeon performed a good job. However, I encountered significant issues during the pre-operative process. The staff member responsible for my IV insertion lacked the necessary proficiency, which resulted in a painful injury to my hand; a different staff member eventually had to step in to complete the procedure. Additionally, I found the administrative process to be quite disorganized and inefficient. Having received excellent care from surgeons back home in the past, I felt the quality of support and administrative coordination here did not quite meet that same standard. I am sharing this feedback in the hope that it will help the center improve their patient care and internal processes.

All 3 times, the staff were amazing and helpful. Everything was explained to me in detail and they made sure I was comfortable. I had very bad vision but was at ease with the surgery considering how the folks are at Gordon Schanzlin. The surgery itself was probably only 5 mins, but a lot was done to make sure I was calm and ready for it. When I was a bit nervous during surgery, they helped distract me momentarily so we could continue seamlessly. I was given clear instructions for aftercare and i had zero complications. I even drove myself to my follow up like they said id be able to! When I needed receipts to help with FSA / insurance reimbursements, I called in and was assisted upfront. I never had any issues with the office side of things either! 3 months later, i still have 20/20 vision and 0 issues. I'm very happy with my treatment and would highly recommend Dr Echegoyen and the Gordon Schanzlin Institute.

Day of the Surgery: The actual procedure was done in a very short period of time. I felt pressure on my eye socket, but nothing else. You just stare at some lights and each eye is done in a matter of 20-30 seconds. Once you're done, they give you protective goggles and send you off with whoever is driving you. You get meds to help you sleep and relax your eyes for the rest of the day. When I woke up from this, I could already see much better. Next Day: I woke up and was astonished at how good my vision was. I have books across the room from my bed and I could read all the titles from where I was laying. Pre-surgery I couldn't even tell there was writing where the titles were. I had my check up at NVision, which I drove myself to and the rest of the day was great. Day 3: This day, my eyes hurt like hell. I took drops a lot and tried to keep my eyes closed a lot. The rest of the week, the pain decreased and went away and my vision continued to improve. I was never more excited when I didn't have to wear the goggles to bed anymore haha Over the next several weeks and months, my eyesight was much crisper than it had ever been when I wore contacts. Colors were more vibrant and I could read street signs much farther away. My eyes needed drops at the beginning and end of days as they were frequently dry and to this day I still have minor halos around lights at night, but damn this eyesight is a dream. If you are eligible for Contura, I would definitely spend the extra money and do it. It made a big difference for me.

However, I'm extremely disappointed with how my medications were handled. I was initially given expired eye drops before surgery, which I reported. After surgery, I developed an eye infection, and when I was given a new bottle on 03/30/2026, it was set to expire on 04/04/2026--just days later. When I called, I was told it's "okay" to use expired drops, which is very concerning. For a clinic like NVISION Eye Centers, this level of carelessness with medications is unacceptable. I would not recommend this clinic based on my experience.

I developed Strabismus in my mid-40s and over 1.5 years it got exponentially worse. I had double vision and had resorted to driving with one eye closed. I went to my optometrist repeatedly for renewed contact lens and glasses prescriptions to correct the issue, but none worked effectively to align my eyes. My optometrist finally referred me to the Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego. I made an appointment with Dr Robbins, who was kind, caring, and very thorough in explaining my condition and that there is a corrective surgery treatment for it. I had no idea! She was also patient with my questions and answered them all. She ordered an MRI to ensure there were no issues noted in my brain or eye orbitals that could be causing my vision issues. Once that was done and was normal, I scheduled my surgery. While I was nervous about having the surgery, I am so happy that I went through with it. I had surgery on both eyes and Dr Robbins did an excellent job. She is a great physician who also really cares about her patients. She personally called my husband after surgery to tell him how it went, and also spoke to him by my bed side when he came to fetch me. The day after my surgery, I could see PERFECTLY! No double vision whatsoever. It truly felt like a miracle. I wasn't sure that I would ever see totally properly again, but she fixed my eye alignment 100%. It's really amazing. I am very grateful to Dr Robbins.
