The problem I went in for is actually more noticeable now making my quality of life worse. Dr London should know that that can happen and it should be discussed before any invasive procedures are performed so the pt can make an educated informed decision vs have one problem that then results in more new problems and a worse original problem. Dr hanneken misdiagnosed my vitreous detachment even when I asked her where the blood was coming from she had no answer and no other appointment. 3 weeks later I demanded a different doctor and 6 tear were found and repaired. I want to thank Dr. London for the treatment I received during the last month. My fuzzy left eye vision frightened the daylights out of me. After an in office procedure didn't seem to be enough of a remedy, I was diagnosed with multiple retinal tears. Surgery was done hours later at Scripps. During the recovery period I was even more frightened. At home, idle, and getting information on Google (with the one "good eye") my thoughts wandered such that I thought my vision would never return. Would I ever enjoy seeing my granddaughters play soccer? Would I ever be able to drive, to travel, to walk evenly, to play catch, to watch the Padres? These and other fears were allayed by Dr. London during follow up visits post surgery. He was on point and consistent with all the pre and post operation advice he provided. Now, less than 4 weeks after surgery I can report that vision has been completely restored to the once fuzzy eye. The care and soft approach using watchful waiting (in certain conditions) was what Dr. Ammar suggested. We waited over a year to do the surgery before my condition worsened and could have lost sign in that eye. The surgery was scary, but was successful. His nursing/assistant staff at the hospital were professional and kind as are his practice assistants. I will have Dr. Ammar for life to be keeping my vision maximized and healthy. Much gratitude to him and the entire staff and for Dr. Morgan (Beyond Vision) for recommending Dr. AMMAR. He's a brilliant, young surgeon who handles complicated conditions, He is a regular guy, too. pretty darn good if I must say so. I really write a review, but this doc had me in surgery five hours after meeting me and within 24 hours of meeting with him I had a follow up office visit and was doing as perfectly as possible. Nobody likes the inconvenience of surgery upon discovering an immediate problem, but he handled it very nicely, and his arguments were compelling enough to get me in there for a procedure sooner rather than later. I don't run into too many younger physicians, and when I do, they are mostly primary care, but this guy is special and is probably going to be more special as more people realize that this operation can save their site if caught in time. Went to see Dr Ammar, ( Poway ) for what was supposed to be a yearly eye checkup. Dr Ammar is very professional, thorough and, explains medical conditions very clearly, During a very detailed exam, Dr Ammar found that I had a partially detached retina. I went to see Dr. Ammar after seeing floaters and a flashing light in my right eye. After several test and complete examination, I was diagnosed with Posterior Vitreous Detachment. Even though the condition sounded serious, Dr. Ammar assured me that this condition was a common age-related eye problem and wasn't serious. He recommended a follow up visit in a month just to be sure. Dr. Ammar was very professional and instilled confidence in his diagnosis of my condition. I was directed to Retina Consultants of San Diego by my previous retina specialist, who had decided to leave town. I saw Dr. Hanneken on Thursday, May 11. My visit began with the usual eye tests conducted by technicians. However, they couldn't seem to get the job done, and kept adding more drops. They moved me from machine to machine, adding more drops each time. Three technicians ended up being involved, and none of them seemed to know what they were doing. So I got more and more and more drops. Then Dr. Hanneken came in and added still more drops. She said they couldn't do much, since they didn't know my previous history (even though I had signed the transfer forms and the other doctor's office was a short walk away). I now had so many drops that I was hardly able to walk. I was then told they'd have to get my records and for me to make an appointment for about a year later. When I went to the front desk, they informed me that they didn't make appointments that far out and I should contact them later. I staggered out of the office (yes, I was wearing sunglasses) - no one asked whether I was okay. I had a hard time even finding the elevator. When I got out of the elevator, I had to find a place to sit since I couldn't walk without a risk of falling. My general impression was that the technicians were poorly trained and did not seem to understand there was a limit to how many drops a person could handle. The doctor didn't seem to care much and had little to offer. I did not receive any after-visit summary or any advice on how to make it down to meet my ride. As one might imagine, I was thoroughly unimpressed and would not recommend this doctor to anyone. She needs to train her technicians better, coordinate their activities more, and be sure that patients are at least able to walk out the door. I called the office to complain, and was met with nothing but excuses (no apology for anything). Later, I got a call from an office manager who was apologetic but seemed mostly worried about getting a bad review. Well, they have one now - and I certainly won't be back. read more

Dr. London is one of the most incredible physicians I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. My husband was diagnosed with a macular hole. After doing research on Dr. London (his expertise, compassion and skill level with this procedure) we were convinced he was our physician to do this surgery. We would be traveling from LA to San Diego for the surgery. I contacted Dr. London on Labor Day through the group's website and he called me within 30 minutes. He was so easy to talk to, answered all our questions and spent about 1/2 hour on the phone with us. Unfortunately the group did not take our insurance and we were so disappointed we couldn't see Dr. London. I contacted him again thanking him for what he did and asked if he knew any other physicians we could try in LA. He let me know if a colleague in LA, and we have an appointment to see him in a few days. Dr. London wins the award in my book for compassionate care. I have never had another doctor care and try and help as he has. He is a Godsend! read more

Unfortunately, I am highly disappointed with this facility. Dr. London was wonderful and informative, but the supporting staff is absolutely incompetent. I had my initial appointment with Dr. London over a year ago, which he informed me of a free genetic testing offered in-house to determine if I qualify for an upcoming case study/genetic treatment that could potentially improve my visual situation (a genetic degenerative eye disease), to which I was elated and agreed to, and he performed that day via blood draw. He also provided me with a variety of resources which I could utilize to look into upcoming case studies that may be applicable to my situation, which I unfortunately misplaced. Long story short, after having to go back a second time (40 min each way) to have my blood redrawn for the genetic test originally offered (reasons unknown to me), and MULTIPLE subsequent phone calls to this facility AND the lab they used to process the test, over a period of a year, I still haven't gotten my test results or the name of the resources that were provided to me. The staff tells me the same thing every time I call, "Oh, I see you called in on such and such date, no one called you back? Let me take a note and someone will get back to you by the end of the day"...I'm still waiting. I hope someone sees this and actually follows up. I wish I could have the confidence in this place because resources are limited for individuals with such rare diagnoses, and when we can't put our faith in places like this, it's a major bummer and deflating. read more

Dr. Michael Ammar was recommended by my Ophthalmologist, Dr. Prestera to perform a tricky ocular lens replacement. He struck me as a warm, highly intelligent, and compassionate professional. His team reflects his demeanor, being kind and quietly efficient. He explained the procedures, the surgery, etc. calmly and clearly. The surgery went well but 10 days later, I developed cloudiness in the repaired eye. He saw me the same day and spent a great deal of time testing, taking an oral history, and explaining why I might have developed a uveitis (inflammation) condition. It wasn't the result of the surgery. He saw me every day for three days and called often to check on me. It turned out I needed to replace the lens, placed perfectly during surgery but was now, displaced. The second surgery revealed that during my original lens replacement (27 years ago) there was a large incision that was never sutured which he repaired. The results were stunning. He is an amazing diagnostician. Dr. Ammar is humble and gracious, a true gentleman. read more

Dr. Jain deserves 5 stars - why three stars? Busy office, courteous staff. Appears patients are scheduled around the same time. Perhaps it is because you will see two to three technicians before seeing the doctor. What I do not appreciate is the staff tries to keep the doctor's time with the patient to the minute by entering the examination room and standing there...15 minutes timeframe from when the doctor enters. My recent appointment, the doctor was sharing medical information about a new finding and a prescription with me when a staff member entered and stood there with the door opened. I had never been to their office, but the lady could not have been more certain that Dr. London was the best choice for me. I was very nervous going into the office as I did not know what to expect. My reason for the appointment was one of uncertainty for me. I was given some unfortunate news, however, the experience was very informational and calming. Dr. London was very professional and thorough with his explanations of my circumstance. I was encouraged, because of the diagnoses, to seek a second opinion. I went to Scripps Hospital Ophthalmology Dept. and the Dr. there agreed with Dr. London's diagnosis. He too had high praise for Dr. London. I will be making my next appointment to see him this week. I disliked the pass 2 visit at Retina Consultants in Poway Ca. where my grandma had an apponitment both times. The first appointment my wife waited 3 hours before my grandma had to been seen then the next visit was 2 hours. I believe this doctor is a great doctor but needs to schedule less patients. I don't think its right to wait 2-3 hours if you have any type of scheduled appointment. read more
