First before I made an appointment I looked at previous reviews and one of them made me raise an eyebrow as they were complaining about $50 and the dentist being too blunt.... The response from the business is what won me over. First off I want blunt in all my medical visits. If I finally broke my stubbornness to go to the doctor then it means I want the blunt truth. My visit was for a painful molar (previous root canal) and possible cavity. Daniel comes off as really someone that cares about the quality of care and you getting the best possible treatment. People like Daniel set the benchmark how every dentist doctor should be. If you ever went to the doctor and felt he had other agendas then it's probably time to find a professional like Daniel. Innovation is another term I will use here as it's very rare to find a dentist who spends time research ways to make procedures better and taking the time to research and keep track of the other referral doctors/dentists that treat you down the line. He has been known to travel with a patient in town of need to make sure they were given the attention needed to resolve a serious issue. Hats of to professionals like Daniel that set the benchmark for medical excellence. I have been going to Dr. Cheng since he moved into his Las Tunas office, even though I live in Tehachapi, over a two-hour drive away. I was willing to drive this far because he came so highly recommended by my former dentist who retired. I recently asked him to handle dental work for my husband, who was told by a dentist in Tehachapi that he needed dentures. Dr. Cheng did a fabulous job of adjusting my husband's work to encompass four implants and a new partial so that he did not have to have dentures. I am looking at the reviews and noticed a few bad ones. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions based on their personal experience. But let me tell you about the feedback he has received by multiple oral surgeons (3 to be exact) that I have consulted with to find the right highly qualified TMJ surgeon. I spent a lot of cash for consult with these oral surgeon specialists. Every time I told the story of how the tumor was found, each surgeon were very impressed. I stated that the family dentist decided to rule out any medical conditions before prepping my daughter for braces due to the fact that she has an asymmetrical jaw line that has been observed and was being monitored. To make the story short, surgery and biopsy was done on a very delicate area (TMJ location next to the brain & ear canal) on my daughter. He is not a cash grab kind of dentist. Yes, he only takes PPO and there are out of pocket cost. It is all based on your insurance coverage, deductible, co-pay, and cost sharing. There are services such as CT scans or ceramic filling that may not covered. That is an insurance thing and not a dentist thing. Dr. Cheng really not a good dentist. I had a very bad experience. The ordeal was a nightmare. Both crown and night guard are not proper suited for me. To make the long stories short, my right face puffy up and many days cannot sleep at night. At night time, my right-side hand / arm is numb. Almost 2 months I suffer. I look for help with another dentist. He introduces me to use a night guard. The cost for the night guard is very high more than 2K even Irvine only charge $250 I ware it at night, I can not close my mouth, make my throat thirsty until right face puffy up. I call regard this and still give me an appointment one week later. When arrive at office. Dr Cheng ask me if it is hurting? I said no then he says this is not his problem, he only fixes tenth. He suggested me to use or inject Botox or eat liquid foods for some time (one year). After hearing this I lost all confident on this doctor. read more

Overall experience I would say this place deserves a 3 to 3.5 stars.The reason is because I prefer my dentist to be friendlier. Now don't get me wrong, dr.cheng seemed very skillful, passionate, and knowledgeable about his work but what pushed me away is just the fact that he came off as too strong or blunt. I was looking around Alhambra, Monterey park, and San Gabriel to find a trustworthy, and good oral surgeon to extract my teeth to get ready for orthodontic treatment and I happen to find this place through Yelp because of the good reviews. At first impression, it seemed to me that this office was very smart about how they consult their patients. For example, I called the office and asked for the price for a consultation and they claimed that it was free and I made the appointment and went in for my first consultation & guess what? The doctor just told me to ask my orthodontist to send over the x rays and he'll evaluate them and call back so I went home and called my orthodontic office and told them to email to dr.cheng. I waited a couple of days and I still received no calls from this office so I called back and he said to come in again to evaluate the x rays that was sent over. I came in for my second visit but I had to pay a initial fee of 50$ for consultation. Boom there goes my 'free consultation'. Another thing is that after my evaluation with dr.cheng he quoted me on the extraction of each tooth and it was actually 'pricier' compared to the other dental offices I visited. I'm sure his skill is flawless and that is probably the reason for his prices to be slightly more expensive but I just decided to finish the rest of my dental work at another office and it actually did save me a couple of hundreds with a safe and speedy recovery as well! Overall, I mean honestly we could've just done a quick check up on the first visit but it seemed to me that he didn't want to spend 'unnecessary' time to just do a couple of quick x rays and tell me about what I needed to work on during my first visit. But I will give it to them that their office is very clean, classic, and has a very friendly front desk employee! EDIT: As I mentioned earlier, don't get me wrong. First of all, 50$ wasn't the issue but the issue was that I felt uncomfortable & felt belittled throughout my previous two visits. At the end of my second visit, I waited for the doctor to explain more details about the treatments I needed because I was going to leave unsure of what needed to be done and all I got was the same result, which is being "brushed off". I believe I deserve the right to know more details and is that so much to ask for?? Well anyways after my review the doctor called me randomly a couple weeks later and tried to explain himself in a very blunt way. I believe the misunderstanding we have here comes from that "I'm angry about my money for the consultation" but that is not the case. To be honest, the only issue I have is that I prefer a friendlier Dental office that is able to walk me through my whole procedure of getting extractions. But now I already extracted the extra teeth and I'm nearly 4 months into having braces and I actually didn't have to extract as much teeth as I was advised to from this office. Dr. Cheng is the only dentist I feel comfortable with. I normally fear the dentist and when I used to leave for my appointments, I would always wonder if I should just suck up the pain and cancel my appointment. This is never the case anymore, he spots all of my teeth problems and fixes them for me. I had this tooth that drove me crazy because the pain was intolerable and consistent. It took a few months to fix but it was completely worth it, my teeth have never felt better. One thing I really like about him is that he's still passionate about what he does (sadly, most dentists that I've seen don't seem interested in what they do anymore and have changed their career into a job). I have had serious periodical headache since a few years ago. I have seen many docs but no one can figure out what the cause is. About two years ago, Dr. Cheng found out I have issue of grinding teeth. He pointed out if I don't work on the issue, it would go worse and might cause a lot problem, including headache. He made me a mouth guard for night use, and provided detail instructions of how to use it, clean it, etc. The month guard fits me very well, so that very comfortable. He re-checks my mouth guard, and adjusts/recalibrates it if needed, every time I visit him for other oral check or treatment. I know my teeth are 'shifting' along the time. What Dr. Cheng has been doing is to make sure the mouth guard fits me well and minimizing the uncomfortableness while wearing it. I really appreciate it- not only the effort he has put in, but also the mindset of caring patents. Surprisingly, after a few months since I wear the mouth guard, my headache was gone. I didn't expect that at all. Dr. Cheng is very professional. His knowledge and experience make me trust him. Dr. Cheng was highly recomended by a good friend. I had lots of dental problems in the past but I have not find a doctor I can truly trust until I met Dr. Cheng. I called his office for an emergency tooth ache. The staff was a sweetheart, she courteously scheduled me right away. Street parking was easy find. After the treatment was done, he took an hour of his time to educated me about my condition. I will need to rebuild my teeth because of sever grinding issue and years of abuse He suggested options for both long term and short term treatments, but did not push me for decision. He told me that a good dental treatment will raise my quality of life for a very long time. But it takes dedication and commitment from both the doctor and the patient to make it happen. Hi everyone, I really want to start off with the fact that I rarely rate on yelp unless a place really amazed me. The first thing I noticed was the wonderful and comforting way the rooms were designed. Dr. Cheng is by far the most knowledgable and caring dentist that I have ever been to. Before the visit.. I had gone to another dentist (didnt know aboit Dr. Cheng).. and this was actually for my son's very deep cavity. The other dentist took one quick look and dismissed my son because I'm guessing he did not want to DEAL with the damage.. or deal with a fussy kid. Dr cheng did not hesitate at all to reasure me that he would take care of my son. He was soooooo good with my son and extremely caring.
