I have "preventative only" dental coverage and went in for a checkup and did not need anything besides a cleaning and was still billed. 1. At my appointment copies of my insurance card were made. After my appointment I got text messages from the receptionist about needing to send photos of the card. I didn't have notifications turned on so she just kept texting instead of calling like a normal office would, without an explanation for why I needed to provide my card again. 2. My dental plan allows a series of "comprehensive x-rays" every 5 years, and a set of bite wing x-rays annually. They did "comprehensive x-rays" even though I had them done less than 5 years ago elsewhere. I have 0 cavities so there was no reason I needed the comprehensive x-rays sooner than my insurance would pay for them and if they were needed, I could have had them sent from my prior dentist. TAKEAWAY: Know what your insurance covers before you go to any dentist and then talk to the hygienist before they start because apparently you have to be your own advocate at offices like this.

We waited several minutes for her to finish her call and acknowledge that we were even there. When I gave my child's name, she said he wasn't on the schedule. I couldn't believe my ears. When she finally came out she handed me a Dunkin Donuts gift card and said there's a glitch in the system and that it happened to other people too. I said keep your gift card. I then saw the woman who initially made the appointment standing in the hallway looking like a deer in the headlights. She didn't come out to speak with me or apologize. The receptionist then said, "We can squeeze you in at 1:15". I didn't want my son "squeezed" in for braces. The dr. then came out and I thought for sure he'd apologize. Nope, he did not apologize and went right to looking at the computer. Things happen, I get it, but at the very least be apologetic!! I initially went in for a cleaning which went well and the staff was very friendly (no surprises here, I need to floss more). I also took X-Rays since I was a new patient and Dr. Rudin spent extra time walking me through some of the past work he could see that I had done, and more importantly, pointed out some areas of concern. Then I went for my own appointment, and instead of treating my problem as scheduled, took my entire appointment time to discuss my son's dental issues and demand that I force my son to have the crowns and see the specialists etc that Dr. Pizzale had told him to. First of all, my adult son's dental treatment is not my business, my responsibility, or my problem. If my son wants to tell me, ok, but Dr. P completely violated his privacy by volunteering all this information to me. Next, he never did fix my teeth that day, but did charge me for a consultation!! When I came back to have my teeth fixed, and challenged him on why he spent my entire previous appointment talking about my kid against my wishes and yet charged me, he grew enraged. Like, scarily enraged. He started yelling at me in the waiting room in a way that was seriously unhinged. Two other people witnessed this outburst. I am never, ever, going back and I am warning everyone that Dr. Pizzale has a severe anger problem.
