Like Demel, Cafe Central is a MUST visit when you go to Vienna, where the coffee houses are a sight to behold on their own. Yes, the wait is quite long. Every time I pass by, there's a line, but it actually goes rather quickly and if you can find something to do to pass the time, it's like nothing at all. First off, the interior is STRIKING, a work of art in its own right with marble columns, stylish looking cafe tables, and paintings every where you go. Apparently Sigmund Freud has been a frequent patron here. Even if you were to get nothing at all, just the experience of sitting here is worth your eyes absorbing. But, oh!--the cakes--and the coffees! I had me an iced coffee that had a great body mixed with a delicate flavor to give me a jolt through the day. The hazelnut cake was airy and fluffy, not at all too sweet like American desserts have a tendency to be! The staff here move efficiently, and I love how there's no pressure to hurry up and pay your bill or make your order. A repeat place to be sure if I were to go back to Vienna. My twin and I went on Sept '25 for our vacation.

The line moved pretty quickly, though, and I waited about 30 minutes. The interior is stunning. I was completely enamored with the architecture and the structure of the building. After an uncomplicated reservation we were already looking forward to get there. We were seated quickly while our coats were taken away. Our table was in a quiet corner, which we appreciated a lot. The staff was very friendly and not as stiff as you might expect from a restaurant in a high-tier hotel. All of them helped to create a very pleasant atmosphere. The menu at Die Küche is relatively small, but don't let that fool you. The quality is very good! As starter we went for the beer tartare, which is prepared to your liking at your table. Two chefs came with the ingredients and asked us how we wanted to have it. More or less spicy, with this or that. It's totally customizable! Nice idea to get more interaction with the guests. We also has the signature dish: the Käsekrainer - we asked to have it as a starter. I think it's a bit unusual for a place like that, but it must have been the best Käsekrainer I've ever tasted. I had a Schnitzel as main. Boring? Might be, but I love a good Schnitzel. Pair it with cucumber salad and I'm happy. This was also prepared very well and quickly time for dessert came. 4 people, 5 desserts, how do you solve that? Well, by just ordering all 5 and share them, of course! At least, that is what we did. When the other dishes were good, the desserts were just amazing! All 5 take you to a different part of dessert heaven. We paired the food with some wines. Die Küche has a wide range of wines from all over the world, in different price ranges. As can be expected from a place like that, credit card payment was not an issue. We had an amazing evening. Of course, the company you are dining with is most important but good food and drinks with pleasant staff helps a lot. We'll be back for sure!

We had both dinner and dessert as well as coffee. The schnitzel was impeccable--well seasoned, moist meat, and not oily nothing like the subpar versions I have had at home. Our youngest had a bread dumpling with mushrooms--this was rich but delicious as well. For dessert, we had the Landtmann original and apple strudel. Both cake slices were moist and flavorful.... hands down both desserts were the best we sampled while in Austria (and narrowly edged out Demel for us). The decaf coffee was fantastic as well.... although we were so impressed by the food we were equally grateful for the exemplary service--prompt and friendly. Will dream about visiting this cafe again! I'm surprised at the mediocre reviews.... this was one of our favorite spots in Vienna!
