All three of my boys are dyslexic, and I have spent years fighting a system that was fully prepared…read moreto let them fall through the cracks academically. By the time I realized how severe the situation truly was, thanks to years of the school district lying, manipulating and gaslighting me, my children were years behind and being pushed through school without the ability to properly read, write, or do math independently. I refused to allow that to become their future. Like many parents of struggling learners, I was desperate to find help -- and unfortunately, not all "experts" are created equal. We had an extremely painful experience with our first educational therapist, whose treatment of my child caused real emotional harm. After that, I became incredibly guarded, skeptical, and hypercritical of anyone I considered bringing into my son's life. I wasn't just looking for someone qualified. I needed someone safe, compassionate, ethical, patient, and genuinely skilled at teaching complex learners. Thank god for Kellie Henkel at Lights On Learning. Kellie completely changed Hudson's life. In just ONE year, she helped Hudson close massive academic gaps -- literally 4-6 grade levels in multiple areas. The progress has been unbelievable. What felt impossible a year ago is now our reality. Hudson went from feeling defeated and overwhelmed by school to believing in himself academically again. But what makes Kellie extraordinary is not just her skill level -- it's who she is as a person. She is kind, patient, calm, compassionate, encouraging, deeply knowledgeable, and an absolute badass when it comes to teaching kids with learning differences. She knows exactly how to push students while still protecting their confidence and emotional well-being. Hudson trusted her. He felt safe with her. She rebuilt not only academic skills, but self-esteem. As a mother who has lived through the trauma of watching her children be failed by schools and hurt by professionals who were supposed to help them, I cannot explain the level of gratitude I feel for Kellie. She will forever be part of our family's story. If your child is struggling -- trust your gut. Do not let anyone convince you your child is lazy, unmotivated, or incapable. The right intervention and the right teacher can completely change the trajectory of a child's life. Kellie Henkel did exactly that for Hudson, and I will never be able to thank her enough for what she has done for our family.

We wanted him to get the help he needed before attending Kindergarten. We were so happy when we found Kellie and could not believe how quickly our son made progress. The very first day she worked with him we saw improvement and hope. Kellie is incredibly caring, patient, kind and resourceful. Not only did she help our son but she also helped my husband and I understand what was happening with our son's speech and explained ways that we could help him using her proven methods. Kellie knows how to engage with her students and makes learning fun and enjoyable. I highly recommend her!

Up until recently, we didn't know the brain could lack development in the pathways, which are like roadblocks. And our children developed around those roadblocks. However, science proves we can go back and repair the undeveloped neuro-pathways at any age. I was referred here by a family member who shared about Brain Boost Academy's unique innovative methods which help people who lack certain early neuro-developmental sequences, which affect attention, learning and daily home life. I know how difficult it is to have a bright child that is very over-active like a little tornado with a short-attention span. I couldn't keep up with him and had to keep him busy to keep him out of trouble. I learned that with an evaluation, the deficits could be identified and treated specifically and that it would require a developmental one on one program. Seeing the progress before and after has made me a believer. I saw multiple results of how the program works. I wish Brain Boost Academy was available to everyone everywhere!

However since December of 2025 i have…read morerequested a call back from the general manager, JAMIE ,regarding concerns I have as a parent & have been continuously over looked. Again I received a call that my son's therapist will be leaving the practice & in the meantime no times are available except 3pm on Wednesdays (they have his availability & know 3pm on Wednesdays would not work). Since February of 2026, his doctors have requested he receive an additional session be added since my son is non-verbal & every time I have followed up the response is "availability must remain open for other patients". CLARISSA, the scheduling "manager" who is very passive, informed me if i did not want to schedule my son for an incoming therapist in August (WE ARE IN APRIL) then i am more than welcome to have him discharged. Mind you, we drive an hour to take him to be able to receive this support & multiple times we have arrived & there is no therapist for him, or the session was "canceled". The lack of communication & opportunity for a child is extremely sad. 0/5 stars

Ms. Hoops was very helpful and explained the reason for my exercises as well as emphasizing the importance of my continuing the exercises on a long-term basis. I have heeded her advice. While in consultation with Ms, Hoops I also learned that she had experience working with deaf children. My family had been haranguing me for years to get my hearing tested and the results concluded that I had moderate hearing loss, but not sufficient loss for a hearing aid. However, I was not fully informed of the consequences of my hearing loss or provided an explanation of my testing chart. I made an appointment with Ms Hoops to go over the results of the test, I brought in my charts (which were greek to me) and she explained the test results, informed me of the sounds that are now difficult for me to hear and gave me suggestions regarding "training" family members and friends about how best to ensure that I hear their words. I am very happy to have found Ms. Hoops and Monterey Bay Speech Therapy.

The caregivers are ALL very sweet, caring and most importantly, genuine! The owners are lovely lovely people and are almost always there when we visit. You can tell that everyone takes a personal interest in the patients and no one is "pretending". Each time I walk in, something impressive is happening... their meals are all very well organized, planned and served, my grandma is having her hair curled, she has been set up cozy to watch TV, they are having a birthday party, etc... She has a friend that she really enjoys there and the owners have taken them out to dinner together, to see the Nutcracker, to the beach... the list goes on and on. I cannot imagine a better place for my grandma to be. She will even tell you that she likes it there and that they take very good care of her- unusual words for my grandma! And, the facility is VERY CLEAN! My 2 year old zooms his cars all over the living room and I have not seen one speck of dust or dirt here... impressively clean. I think this is a lovely place run by devoted people who really care about the elderly. Each time I visit her I am more and more impressed with the level of care and love that Paradise offers. I cannot thank them enough for taking such GREAT care of my grandma.

It was a very hard decision for my niece and her husband to make the decision to move our sister into a facility, but after visiting there today, I realize that they made the absolute best decision for our oldest sister. The care is absolutely wonderful! It's a lovely home and when you walk in you don't smell anything negative, like urine. The area that it is in we saw a deer and her two fauns. I can imagine how beautiful it is in the spring with the grass all green. It has a lovely swimming pool of course our sister never used it. A lovely shaded patio area for family visits. We could tell the other residence of this home were being very well taken care of and seemed to be very happy there. I am so glad my niece and her husband chose this home for our sister. I can't remember the owner's name, but she was so attentive to our sister and the other residents. I don't think you could find a better place for a beloved family member who is not able to live alone. We are so grateful for the care that they're giving our sister.

If I were considering putting my loved on in Atascadero Christian Community,…read more I WOULD: *Contact DSS Licensing ( 1 844 538 8766) and  and ask for a history report Licensed Assisted Living Facility  #405802003 and get a full report of the history of complaints and concerns. *I would Google pcseniorservices.org , ask what is Country Care, or what WAS country care? And if yes, it was joked about (over and over again) who made the joke? And how high up the leadership chain are they? Are they regular staff? Are they Senior Staff? *I would ask how many physicians represent a majority of the residents. Ask for a name (s) * I would ask for an estimate of how many meds are passed in the AM med passing. *I would ask specific staff to resident ratios and how many days/ hours straight these girls have worked( And the PCAs do work incredibly hard) *I would ask to tour and meet with the Administrator, not his " right hand gal/ fellow Senior Staff" not the new CEO. Do a deep dive! *I would ask to tour the bottom floor of the 20 building * I would ask to spend 20 to 30 minutes near the smokers shed by the back gardens ( then I would do a surprise follow up visit a day or so later, just to make sure  I got a full picture) * I would ask about rodents, big rats, specifically * If it's the name "Christian" that drew me to the facility, I would ask to meet with the leadership ( Wellness Director, Kitchen Manager, Activities Director,, Bethesda House I would (hurry on that one)) I would interview them, ask them how their faith and values line up with ACCs promise to "Lead and care for our residents with a  christ centered lifestyle" I would always check individuals fb's, you know how this younger generation loves to just "put it all out there" *I would ask if any of those two glowing reviews came from a staff member, because I know that you really need to fact check all reviews, good and bad, that people put on the internet. * Lastly I would say, Hey, wait a minute! "Why aren't any of the staff asking these questions or telling the truth about and to the current administration?" Maybe they DID, and they're no longer employed with the company as a result!   If you're considering Atascadero Christian Community,  you should: *Do your REAL research. What  does it matter how beautiful the outside of anything is? Dig deep!!! * Just because something was founded on certain values and principles, do not assume they still hold them today. * And lastly, do not be blinded by titles like, Pastor, Professor, Dig deep! Your loved one depends on you and your level of research.
