It was a very hard decision for my niece and her husband to make the decision to move our sister into a facility, but after visiting there today, I realize that they made the absolute best decision for our oldest sister. The care is absolutely wonderful! It's a lovely home and when you walk in you don't smell anything negative, like urine. The area that it is in we saw a deer and her two fauns. I can imagine how beautiful it is in the spring with the grass all green. It has a lovely swimming pool of course our sister never used it. A lovely shaded patio area for family visits. We could tell the other residence of this home were being very well taken care of and seemed to be very happy there. I am so glad my niece and her husband chose this home for our sister. I can't remember the owner's name, but she was so attentive to our sister and the other residents. I don't think you could find a better place for a beloved family member who is not able to live alone. We are so grateful for the care that they're giving our sister.

For the last 2 years of her life she was blessed to live at the Hillside Villa Retirement Home in Arroyo Grande California which is near Pismo Beach. I had the pleasure of visiting her there 3 different times during this period (it's a long drive from San Diego!) and I was always amazed at how well she was treated by the staff. The building itself is literally a large home converted into a private health-care facility for women. The owner had parents with Alzheimer's and she wanted to provide a special place for patients suffering from this very debilitating disease. Her motives are all about helping and NOT about making money. This attitude prevails throughout the house and staff. She was so successful that she opened another facility nearby. Although Hillside can only house 6 patients (2 in each of the 3 bedrooms) there is a very spacious living room area for family visits. There is also a small outdoor patio area with seating adjacent to the kitchen. Also there exists another large room which has been setup with comfortable reclining chairs and a television to help pass the time. All meals are homemade and lovingly prepared by the wonderful young ladies who work on staff. The staff were always getting my mother to laugh with silly jokes and often kissed her forehead to greet the day. The patients there are basically getting 1 on 1 care which is literally unheard of these days. One of my visits there coincided with Thanksgiving, and another with Halloween. On both occasions, the house was adorned with festive decorations celebrating the holiday. The staff really REALLY cares about the patients, and they are all like family. It almost seemed unnatural to me to call them patients as it feels more like a home, and these gals are all roommates; kinda like the Golden Girls! The last visit with my mother was October 2011 to celebrate her 80th birthday. I was blessed to be accompanied by my Michael who was instrumental in helping with taking pictures; some of the last photos of my mom that exist while she was alive. Thank you honey I couldn't have done it without you! I want to personally thank the entire staff of Hillside Villa Retirement Home for the extreme professional way they lovingly cared for my mother Alice during the last few years of her life. I don't think she could have been in a better place. I miss you mom!

We were very impressed at the amount of care and compassion the Ingleside staff gave my mom. When we moved mom from a larger facility in San Luis Obispo where she wasn't getting the amount of care she needed, Ingleside sent a wheel chair assessable van to pick mom up and even sent along their nurse to ride along with her. My mom recently passed and we were so glad we moved her to Ingleside Park. They took great care of her all the way to the end and we were able to visit her any time, day or night.

Though there are some lovely staff, the turnover is very high, and very hard to get to know who is caring for your loved one.

The caregivers are ALL very sweet, caring and most importantly, genuine! The owners are lovely lovely people and are almost always there when we visit. You can tell that everyone takes a personal interest in the patients and no one is "pretending". Each time I walk in, something impressive is happening... their meals are all very well organized, planned and served, my grandma is having her hair curled, she has been set up cozy to watch TV, they are having a birthday party, etc... She has a friend that she really enjoys there and the owners have taken them out to dinner together, to see the Nutcracker, to the beach... the list goes on and on. I cannot imagine a better place for my grandma to be. She will even tell you that she likes it there and that they take very good care of her- unusual words for my grandma! And, the facility is VERY CLEAN! My 2 year old zooms his cars all over the living room and I have not seen one speck of dust or dirt here... impressively clean. I think this is a lovely place run by devoted people who really care about the elderly. Each time I visit her I am more and more impressed with the level of care and love that Paradise offers. I cannot thank them enough for taking such GREAT care of my grandma.
