All my kids have gone to Danman's when they were younger and loved it. The instructors are skilled and friendly. Music gives them skills they keep for life or at least a better appreciation for the talents of professionals. I am a teacher here and decided to take the time to write a review I love working at this music school so much- it's so special! This little community of families, students and teachers/musicians is so pure and uplifting. The inside is adorable and the kids have so much fun. Music really dose make you smart for learning the math, how to working with others and gaining the confidence to mess up and preform. We amend how we teach based on the kid and their instruments. Most teachers play multiple instruments and with private lessons kids can explore music concepts across different disciplines and sometimes learn two at a time or get to have a back up on an additional instrument! For explained a piano student will learn Minute In C but we also spend time jamming to pop songs like Taylor swift while I play the guitar and sing with her. This way she can play classically, jam with other musicians, perform/play her favorite radio songs. I've been playing guitar for my whole life and am so inspired by what my adult teachers are able to accomplish as well. Don't sleep on taking a lesson often parents do one too! My left handed guitar player is killing the game. read more

We have been going to Danman's for over a year now. I have 2 children taking piano lessons and soon a third child. I like that I can most likely get all of their lessons at the same time and not have to wait back to back like I used to when they would see one private teacher at the teacher's home. I've had teachers come to my home and it's very distracting for the teacher and my children. I've had a good experience with this school because they have always been really flexible with me when I need to reschedule. If I have a billing question, that has always been addressed in a timely manner. I like that there are multiple teachers so if one suddenly can't show up, there's a substitute. I've never had problems with them trying to work with me and our changing schedules. There was a time I couldn't make it but it was less than 24 hours to reschedule so we simply did a Zoom lesson (I had a sick child at home). I also like that the teachers will let your child try other instruments during their lesson - sometimes it's planned and sometimes it's spontaneous. The owner, Dan, is very supportive of the Dana Point community. He has donated lessons and instruments to various non-profit organizations. I haven't had an issue with him being rude. He and his staff have always been respectful and friendly to us. They try to accommodate as best they can. For example my girls only like female teachers. I also like they have several recitals at Stillwater and do not charge for it. It gives the students a great opportunity to play like a pro on stage. One thing that needs improvement is probably better sound insulation. My kids don't play the drums but when someone has a drum lesson, the room isn't padded enough. Therefore I can see how that can be disruptive to other students. I think it would be nice to have an acoustic drum kit instead of or in addition to the electric kit. Lastly, if you aren't happy with your teacher you can ask to switch so again I really like the flexibility. The school is reasonably priced and if you have multiple kids it makes it very efficient as well. read more

Very unfortunate. Customer service goes a long way. Guess we won't be going back. It took 8 months for a reply to make this right. Not at all did I come picking a fight. Wow unbelievable how you have a knack for exaggerating here. You know what I noticed about you, now that I think back at that episode? The way you were so comfortable trying to talk OVER me ..."two masks, five masks, 20 masks". Lol. To make sure you were more powerful than I was. Increasing the level in your voice. You have lots of practice with that kind of talk don't you. Yes you have. In other settings in life. Lots of practice in DENIAL, and therefore feeling the need to defend yourself. So who's the fighter? You're used to fighting people, and RESISTING THE TRUTH. Because you went straight to being belligerent and raising your voice with me. By the way, I came in there because I grew up playing violin and asked Bryce, nice young man, feel free to check with him, how much do they charge for replacing strings for a full size violin, which is a very unique one. As I had broken an E string the other day, but my other strings are old. Plus I asked him do you have an appraiser on site. He gave me two business cards. Just wanted to get information. I thanked him, and he was friendly, and helpful. But I never knew that people are under the obligation to buy something when entering your store? Do you always judge people if they don't buy something? Or only when they were in the right when commenting you weren't wearing a mask and ignoring the fact that customers have safety concerns because of a raging pandemic. So you judge them? The "hard time" you talk about, with the employees inside its so far from the truth, it's laughable...and they graciously put on masks. We've been at this for 12 months. People should put them on. Nothing wrong with that. I was taken aback with you, Dan, that you were not wearing a mask outside. Plus the fact that you wanted to enter the store while I was standing there all of you maskless. So I politely put up my finger to express one minute please, could you wait outside while I just finished my questions. I was sincere and you know I was. Still, I felt a little uneasy doing that, because it's awkward, and I was sensitive to holding you back out there. You graciously waited outside. You can't deny that. Or maybe you were perturbed, because it's your store and you can enter when you want (with no masks?). But I asked that you please wait outside and maybe you weren't happy with that. I don't know. I was choosing to stand at the bottom of the steps, THAT'S what I was comfortable with. Imagine if I had bought $2000 worth of equipment? You're a store owner and an example for the community. Even if my comment outside ticked you off, which I did not intend to pick a fight whatsoever, however, based on the scenario, I wasn't pleased that you weren't wearing masks... and you KNOW that you are the OWNER, you have to have a certain posture and express EMPATHY and SENSITIVITY. Right? And take the high road. This was not apparent whatsoever. So I just mentioned what I said, to you, yes I was a bit irritated, but rightly so, and I was prepared to walk away with my brief comments, not belligerent ... and then YOU went off on ME. I'm sorry, I'm tired of people who treat this like it's nothing. And you took offense to it. You exaggerated here in your response, I yelled back at you because YOU started yelling. And I was defending position, and everyone else out there. And part of my reaction to you, AFTER you started berating and mocking, was based on the fact that this is not just about someone who let's say, chooses to smoke cigarettes because it's their habit, and it's that person's life. No, this is about ALL OF OUR LIVES. How you do ANYTHING is how you do EVERYTHING. I DON'T TRUST YOU, and I saw right through you. Your true colors. I'm not planning to come back there ever. My son had been paying for lessons. He works a job and is getting ready to leave for college. He was held up at work and called to reschedule his music lesson. The instructor told him "no problem" and rescheduled him. NO where in that conversation was he told he would be charged a fee of $40 for not calling in 24 hours prior. Now, I am all about paying your instructors,( I was informed when I called to understand why we were charged) however NOT informing my son prior NOR providing him with any paperwork to sign informing of this policy is irrisponsble on the music instructors and Danman's Music school. AS THEY STATED at Danman's in our conversation They have 7 lessons going and may be busy, and maybe we didnt have him sign a paper, the instructor should have told him"... is really an awesome excuse to NOT inform a client and finding it acceptable to charge them without prior information... its just bad business! read more

This is a great place for kids to learn to play instruments. The teachers are great (we use Michael) and make sure the kids learn theory in addition to playing the instrument. My son went from not knowing how to play any instruments to playing the drums and guitar well in less than a year. My son loves it and always looks forward to music class. read more

Both of my children take lessons at Danmans and we can't say enough good things about this school. The kids both look forward to going every week and are thrilled with their teachers Rachel and Michael. My kids have really progressed both in guitar and voice and also in their overall confidence. I came here with high hopes for a ukulele lesson. I have been playing about a year, and wanted to brush up. I took a lesson and the teacher was playing louder and faster than I was, not breaking things down AT all, then gave me a tab that I could have downloaded myself online. Total waste of time and money. They are very inflexible in rescheduling appointments, I called the morning of an appointment to cancel, with about 4 hours before my lesson, and they told me it would be a forfeit of the class. read more

My 10-year-old son has been taking acoustic and electric guitar lessons at Danman's for just over a year. His instructor has done a really good job of keeping him excited about playing by teaching him songs he likes by bands he hears on the radio, and also sneaks some music theory and sheet music reading lessons in at the same time. The mini-concerts put on by the school are great performance opportunities for the students, and a fun way for the parents to hear the progress their children are making.
