As far as sauce goes,there is none better. Anywhere that I've been. And ive been to several joints in KC St. Louis California Texas and Illinois. Just haven't found a better sauce. The people who work there at HC restaurant in PC are pretty much the unhappiest bunch of people besides the ones who work at Taco Stop. And HC's sides do suck terribly. Never fresh. But the meat is ok I've had better. But the sauce is absolutely grand. So I never eat at HC any more just buy their sauce and have my brother make me some good ol pulled pork, brisket ,and burnt ends!! read more

Excellent barbecue. Everything I've tried here has been delicious, I think my only complaint has been slightly dryer than I'd like brisket. Plenty of sauce at the table though to help with that, and even a little dry, it's well worth going back over and over. They aren't open very late, and do occasionally run out of one or another selection, lunchtime is best or early dinner; 8pm dinner will have you hoping for whatever's left. It'll still be good, just may have a short list to pick from by then. read more

I avoided this place because of reviews from friends. I got the ribs 15 mins before they closed and the kid pulled a new rack out and cut 4 ribs from the center. They were seasoned well and tender. There was no smoke flavor though. The beans were good but came a little cold because they scoop outa bunch a servings and you pick them up as you pass through the line. I recommend not setting out so many in advance. The potato salad was one of the most disgusting things Ive ever eaten. I spit out the only bite I attempted. I will say this however, this was not boxed potato salad which a lot of places try to serve you. I appreciate there effort, but I cant ever try that stuff again. I compared my potato salad experience with a friend who ate here and mentioned he was not a fan of it either. Overall, I'd come back, but certainly would avoid the potato salad. read more

I ordered the sampler so I good get the ham, sausage, brisket and ribs. The ham had no smoked flavor, the sausage had a good taste but no smoked flavor. The brisket and ribs had a good smoked flavor. The sauce was good. Overall it was a good place to eat. read more

Family from out of town are always requesting Head Country BBQ sauce & Championship Seasoning. The brisket and ribs are finger licking good. The food and sides are nothing fancy, just BBQ done right. Every time we go it's clean and the service is quick. Definitely a Ponca City highlight. read more

I ordered out from them. Meat was good, the rest you could get from a can or Walmart deli. No, Walmart deli is better. I ordered Cherry Cobler and got a little tiny scoop for $2:75. I asked for sauce, bread and pickles. Got none of it. Not even barbecue sauce. And they charged top dollar. I go there for the meat and barbecue sauce. Well at least I got some very expensive meat. This place is OK as far as non-Texas BBQ is concerned. The meat is usually good (except the hot links-yuk!) but the sides are below average. But, as a qualifier, I have been to very few Oklahoma BBQ joints where the sides are NOT pre-packaged. The sauce is probably their best item. The locals rave about it, anyway. Worst BBQ I have ever had.....period. And it pains me to say that. I love HC sauce, marinade and their rub, but while working in Ponca City last week I went to their restaurant and the meat and preparation of it was awful! Dry, tiny, burnt ribs, dry over cooked brisket, and the worst hot link I have ever had. I would not recommend this restaurant to any one. Sorry HC...I know you have won a lot of awards and I love your sauce....but your restaurant sucks. read more

In Ponca City Head country has the best BBQ and the sauce is really good but the prices are terrible for the portions. We spent almost 12.00 for about 5 slices of brisket a tiny container of coleslaw and one deviled egg, really? That is ridiculous. I know i wont eat in there unless im getting all you can eat or a slab special otherwise not a good deal. The sandwiches are very skimpy for the price. read more

I ate there for lunch today and was really impressed. I had the Brisket/Rib combo with an extra Hot Link thrown in for good measure. The ribs and brisket were awesome, but the Hot Link Sausage was the best I've ever had. There sauce is great too. My favorite was the Hot. read more

This place is great. Low-key, cafeteria-style decor, so at first was a bit apprehensive. But the food is incredible - tender moist smoky meat you can cut with a plastic fork - and generous portions. Better quality food than what I've had at considerably more expensive places. Hard to beat! read more

I just had a big plate (or Styrofoam box, actually) of head country bar-b-q that I picked up at a bbq cookoff in Stillwater, OK. The plate had brisket, ribs, chicken (theoretically, mine didn't but my husband's did), sausage, and a little slaw plus packets of their sauce. I can unequivocally say that this is the worst bbq I've ever eaten. I am from Eastern North Carolina and recently moved from Texas where I spent 8 years, so I've eaten a lot of bbq, good and bad. Today's bbq was wrong in so many ways. First, everything in the box was pale and watery looking, like it had been steamed rather than smoked. There was no flavor of smoke on anything at all. The ribs were reasonably tender, but tasted like they had come out of the oven, not out of a smoker. The brisket was sliced really thin and was still chewy. No smoke flavor there either. The sausage was ... weird. I couldn't totally identify the spices and seasonings they used, but it definitely has sage in it. You know, the seasoning they put in breakfast sausage? Not good. The chicken was okay, but again, only if you tried to think of it as something that wasn't meant to be bbq. The sauce that everyone likes so much? Gross. It's full of high fructose corn syrup and smoke flavoring and tastes totally artificial and doesn't pair well with any of the flavors on the meat. The slaw was fine. read more
