I LOVE a good dive so I rate this place 10/10. You always have an experience here... it's never a night to forget. Although drinks are strong so you might LOL They've got popcorn, a full bar, jukebox, breeze vending machine, arcade games, cigs for sale, and a graffiti'd up bathroom. The bartenders are always pretty blunt and busy considering there's usually only 1-2 for the entire place. Everyone working is super nice there!! But you gotta be nice to them. Sometimes customers feel entitled to over-the-top smiles and favors. Here, if you are nice you're gonna get that back. But if you're a jerk, you're probably not gonna have a great time lol. Danny's smells! As a place & literally. Musty as hell. Old people must too, not the good stuff. Striking similar to the smell of your grandma's house, the day you decide to put her in a home. Attentive staff nonetheless. Nice jukebox and has a couple of arcade games as well. The bathroom is unfortunate, but to be expected. The stall door smacks the toilet. This is an ideal dive bar. Everything about it screamed dive. They even have a nice patio out back for extra space. Crammed and crowded on a weekend evening. Mostly young people but a couple older regulars. Vape dispenser and 1 bartender for every 15 patrons. A nice pregame bar. read more

I visited this establishment with a handful of friends- both men and women. We are all in our late 30's-early 40's. There is a back and front entrance to this bar. We came through the back entrance to the front of the bar where the dart board is at. We realized it was too small for all of us, so we went to leave out the front entrance. As we were leaving my friend stopped to zip up her coat and all of a sudden the staff and patrons are YELLING "close the door bitches!" multiple timessss. We were very confused by this. We were barely in the bar for 5 mins. and we were not obnoxious. I told one of my other friends about it and they said "oh yeah, Danny's is known for the rude staff and customers...". That's what they are known for!!'?? (And the smell of the place..) I mean, it's a great way to lose business from future patrons..all those old people will die sooner than later, and now who's coming to support their business? Not the people they called derogatory names, for zero reasons. If there was a reason, I would be extremely open to hearing about it. read more

This "friendly neighborhood bar" is anything but friendly. I live nearby and actively avoid going here because I have been met with rudeness and hostility from the bartender every time I've been in there. It's almost like one of those establishments whose intentional quirk is that they berate you while you order, except it's no shtick here -- they are just plain mean. If you hesitate for a moment while ordering, stand in the 'wrong' place, or order something they don't like or in a way they don't like, the woman behind the bar will absolutely ream you out. The last time I was there was because I was walking by with a group of friends and they wanted to go in. I told them about how rude they are and the group agreed that it couldn't be that bad. Upon ordering a beer and asking that it be served in a Ferndale Patio Zone cup, the bartender went crazy and said that of course they were going to use that cup because (unbeknownst to me) the person before me had ordered it that way as well, and that I "didn't f-ing need to specify that". Everyone quickly agreed that this was not a place to ever go to again. And that was nothing compared to how rude they usually are. It's a shame that this terrible unwelcoming place still exists in Ferndale, a city with an otherwise friendly culture and atmosphere. Me and my 2 buddies went in here, FULLY KNOWING this place is awful; via reading multiple bad reviews all having similar complaints. So we wanted to experience Ferndale's shittiest bar, first hand. We walked in a little before 2pm on a Sunday afternoon. We sat along the wall and the only acknowledgment the female bar tender gave us was a dirty look, we smiled threw a friendly wave. You know, like any uninformed optimistic patron would lol! We figured we'd still be ignored, and sure enough we were 100% correct ! We waited for 10 mins before leaving. While walking out some asshole yelled "yeah, GET OUTA HERE". I actually found this sorta humorous because this place was awful on so many levels. Yet they still had this unfathomable amount of pride. I WISH I could give 0 stars. I never leave reviews but, here we go. First off, I used to work next door to this bar, went in ALL the time, sent customers and business over to them all the time. That was years ago though.. went in during DIY for a quick shot, was very deliberately and intentionally ignored by all 2 or 3 of the bartenders who quite literally weren't doing anything. My friends I was with and I have all worked in the service industry and know how to behave in that environment and what I experienced was some of the rudest, bitchiest customer service I've ever experienced. News flash, if you don't like people, don't be a bartender. Reading all the recent reviews, seems like nothing has changed and ownership/management doesn't care. Dive bar heaven. Like the bartender at Imperial next door noted, Danny's has carpet and Christmas lights. What more could you possibly need? How about cheap beers ($2 Miller Lites), a small patio, a sassy bartender (Johnny), fabulous regulars and Pull Tabs? Doesn't get much better. We visited on a weekday afternoon, so I'm realistic in that my experience probably isn't typical, but who cares? Oh Danny's. Yes yes yes. Quintessential dive, replete with year round Christmas lights, wall to wall carpet, a jukebox, plenty of weirdos and old regulars, and great down to earth bartenders. Danny's is the place. We've been in a good handful of times - bar crawls, pre-gaming before a more expensive bar, Pride, birthdays... There's never a bad time to come drink. Prices are great, especially given some of the other places to drink within a stone's throw. Their liquor selection is deep enough to serve just about anything you'd not feel like an asshole ordering in a dive bar. Beer is a handful of crafts on tap, but most everyone is having shots and domestics. They have a small kitchen with some bar food. I can't confirm, and don't have any direct evidence of such, but... it seems like the type of place that doesn't keep strict hours on the kitchen - more of the "eh I don't feel like cooking, so I'm going to say the kitchen is closed" type. Danny's is an old neighborhood Irish/corner bar, from back when the Ferndale neighborhood was people working hard and barely making it--rather than a trendy hotspot. Very limited street parking on busy Woodward, more pay parking lots behind up and down the strip. It does not in any way try to take advantage of its location on Woodward, the center focus is the bar that takes up most of one wall of the long and narrow room. The beer selection is limited with just a few crafty types. Decent prices. Some people drink there all day and look like they have for 25 years. They keep it clean but don't overly worry about fixing it up to look like Imperial next door. A clean dive bar from the old days. For sure go on St Pattys day. Trivia nights are pretty fun, too. I see a lot of comments about the female bartenders being rude and giving poor service. I am not a regular, which this bar has many of, but I am older and get decent service. This is Ferndale's reply to Gusoline. It's smallish, it smells a little funny and it's a little dingy but you can't tell me that you've ever had a bad time at Danny's. The bartenders here have a fuck-off attitude that I love and realistically they're all really cool people....but don't give them any grief, they will kick your ass. If you're needing a change from your normal overpriced martini bar this joint is a knock down drag out local spot that will provide an ambiance you won't soon forget. It's a little snug at capacity but their juke is solid, drinks are stiff, they have Keno and pinball and they just replaced their steel tip board and darts which is one of my main draws. You can't go wrong here, this spot is a great way to lose a few hours so update your Tetanus shot and put on a happy face and stop in for a pint. read more

As a group of minority women, I say DONT COME HERE. We came to this pub around 1am after celebrating a DJ friends birthday party a few minutes down the road. We came, stated we just wanted a few drinks to wait on our ride that was 20+ minutes away, The waitress immediately greeted us with an attitude - mind you they close at 2 am. I went to the bathroom then asked for a drink and she said "no were closed SORRY" in a condescending tone. With 20+ minutes to close I said "it's not 2?" and she said "based on MY time we are closed". We left with people still in the bar getting drinks. I totally thought I had reviewed Danny's, but I guess not! It's a divey bar, but not a 100% dive bar. A REAL dive bar has shady octogenarian locals who snarl at you when you come in; not hipster-type Ferndalians who spend more on their hairstyle than their beer and hog tables and stools. All in all, it's a solid place - albeit cramped, dirty, slightly unfriendly and not overly cheap. The reason we come regularly is for trivia on Monday nights. Major complaint is the lack of seating, which can get frustrating. read more

Normally, Danny's is a 4 star joint at least. Friday's experience was more of a 1 star kind of time, but I just can't give them that. My bf's friend is in from out of town. He's a southern boy (read: not some pretentious ass or a frat boy type). So we decide to take him to Danny's. It sucked.The bartender that was working that night is a total snot. We walked in and I asked what was on tap. It's dark as hell inside, I can't see that well as it is, plus I didn't feel like squeezing in between people to get closer to the taps. When we ask her, she rolls her eyes, throws herself onto the counter and says ::gasp:: " You seriously want me to read to you what's on tap?" Uh, yes. You're the freaking bartender. So she rattles off her long list of (8!) beers that they had. My friend walks in about 30 seconds after us and asks what they have. She rolls her eyes and says that she already told us. So my b/f and I have to list the beers for him. It's 8 freaking beers dude. It shouldn't be that hard to memorize. It should take you a good, what? 5 seconds to say. It's not like the bar was super crowded or anything. So we get our beers and sit down near the jukebox. A girl walks over to pick out a few songs and then out of nowhere this chick follows and starts messing with her. WTF? She was saying some really weird shit. Come to find out, the girl who's acting like a weirdo is the bartenders sister. After watching that, we just decided to drink our beer and leave. Kind of mad because it was the first Ferndale bar we took our friend to, and it didn't leave a very good impression. We then took him to another bar down the street. Somehow, this experience came up and our new bartender knew who we were talking about. She said a friend of hers had the same exact experience the night before! Not good! I know I will go there again because hole in the wall bars are my type of place and there aren't many of those in Ferndale. If she's working though, I'm out. read more

I've never felt the need to write a Yelp review, however my experience this past St. Paddy's weekend at Danny's finally warranted my first review. I walked into Danny's with a few friends who had never been there for our first drinks of the night. Ok, so we ordered 4 shots to start the night off but that's no reason for the treatment the bartender gave us. She stared at us blankly after taking our order and then took forever to make them. When she returned and there was a little salt on the bar she blew it at us. WTF. The funniest part about the whole incident is that she sarcastically thanked us for the tip, obviously we didn't leave one. She also let us know very rudely that it's a faux pas to order shots at a bar. Dude, this is a bar and you are a bartender. To say this bartender "has a bite to her" is a major under statement. There are far too many awesome bars in Ferndale to deal with the shitty customer service you may receive from one of the bartenders. There are probably some people that think being an asshole to someone is funny but I don't. You can find plenty of 3 dollar drinks in this town sans the snarky, bully of a bartender at Danny's. read more

Danny's is the Ferndale downtown strip's dive bar. The prices are what you'd expect, 2-3$ for beer, $3 for wells, etc. The jukebox is bitchin, and never ceases to amaze me with the actually great tunes they have on there. However, the fact that it is a dive bar works against it, if you ask me. Its a great place to have a beer and talk to friends. Its usually pretty chill, and relaxed kind of atmosphere. But you also get the dive bar crowd. Not the old people, they are totally awesome. But the mid 30s, I'M GOING TO THIS BAR BECAUSE ITS NOT UPSCALE crowd. Those people. They can be space hogging, loud douchelords who totally ruin the experience of going to a bar like Danny's. Expect them there on big bar nights (day before Thanksgiving, St. Patties, Friday, Saturday), but never any other time. They have to wake up early on week days, ya know? I came here for St. Pattys day.. my fault. Just a small dive bar with a lot of drunks crowding around the bar to get their next fix. My friend and I were lucky enough to spot a small table and grabbed it even though there were plastic cups, cans and old beer all over it. If you're using cards there's a $10 minimum. Just order a beer and a shot and tip. You should be fine. I loved the people watching, it was hard to get a beer (but again it was St. Pattys Day) and the music was extremely loud. My friend and I thought we were going to lose our voice because we were screaming to have a conversation. I come to Ferndale often and this was my first experience at Danny's. St. Patricks day isn't going to scare me though, I'll be back for another taste. And people keep talking about this dog. I'm looking for him next time.
