Stopped in on a busy Saturday night and luckily we were able to be seated right away. The ambience was very cozy and historic. People weren't rowdy for a pub setting, and it was just loud enough. We made a great last-minute choice for a memorable dinner. Our waitress was knowledgeable and gave wonderful recommendations. We enjoyed the stuffed mushroom appetizer, served hot and creamy. The fish and chips were excellent. Huge, huge beer battered haddock with a delicious runny tartar dipping sauce. I'm still dreaming of it! The Pork Osso Bucco special was outstanding, according to my dining partner. I thought the pastry at the bottom tasted a bit doughy, but the wine sauce and veggies swimming inside were delicious. The food is simply not good. The Krampus burger was recommended by the server, and it was barely edible. The fries are in cheap tiny pieces that you can only eat with a fork. Apparently locals love this place. Why, I will never know. read more

The food is above average, I had a classic Reuben with grilled soft marble and fresh corned beef. Friends enjoyed a blackened chicken sandwich, a Michigan salad and all were finished with compliments. The service was strained. I don't think our server wanted to be there. Service is good. Ambiance is loud music. We had a table of 9 and each end of the table couldn't hear so not a group place. My burger was over cooked. Walked in and was put on a waiting list for 4, it was busy. First time here so not sure if this was normal. It was loud inside When we did sit down, waitress was very friendly and did not seem stressed with the amount of patrons. We ordered our dinners. When we received our dinner my actual plate was very cold but I had cottage pie which is cooked in an iron skillet so it was warm. My son in law got a burger and fries-cold fries I should say. My husband got fish and chips like warm fries, and fish greasy but tasty after taking off breading. My daughter had fish sandwich which was served on a cold plate, awfully cold fries and what was worse the fish sandwich was cold. Waitress came by after awhile and my daughter told her and she apologized and offered more fries but what about the rest of the meal. I thought the bill would have been adjusted some for the terribly cold meal and waiting time. Also order a beer and was given a different selection not what was ordered. But it was a beer so did drink it. So I have a difficult time recommending this place. And I am not sure we will return read more

We were so bummed to find out only the brunch menu was available when we arrived (10-2). We had come, after all, for the delicious stuffed mushrooms (and the drinks). Besides the (unforementioned) drinks, we ordered the Shirred Eggs (2 baked eggs in a sage sauce with wild mushrooms and a side of baguette "soldiers") and the Ribeye Benedict (self-explanatory). It was plate licking good! So glad we stopped in here today! Not sure about the Bloody Mary though. We spent a weekend in Fenton for a wedding and popped in the Blackthorn one afternoon for lunch. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The staff is friendly, the draft list has a load of local brews, and the food is great. We were pleasantly surprised to see a French ham and cheese sandwich on the menu, as it did not appear on its website. We immediately ordered two and were not disappointed. It is huge and delicious, and any French bistro would be proud to serve it. Highly recommended. read more

LeRoy: The interior of the Blackthorn Pub I would think would make you feel like you're in Ireland - I believe that's what it's intended to do. I've never been to Ireland but I believe thats what it was intended to do. The atmosphere was good with sweet people attending to your needs. The food I had was excellent which was a Rueben how they probably make it in Ireland. It has sweet cabbage which right away I thought YUCK but it was actually good. It had sauce on it and the corn beef was well worth the hassle of putting up with my two granddaughters. Katie: I got the chicken strips and fries and everything was homemade and delicious. My only complaint was that it was a little loud. Caitlin: The pub burger was cooked perfectly and very flavorful - I especially enjoyed the ranch dressing on my salad which tasted homemade. We haven't been in in quite a while. Not as good as we remember. We did just get two apps. Irish nachos had the potential to be great but, the chips were soggy and had zero crisp at all. Not too many places are practically full at open, but this one was! We had come up from Monroe for the Dickens Festival and after driving thru the first harrowing snow of the season, really needed a drink! Seriously, after seeing so many spin-outs, we needed to decompress before jumping into the holiday spirit. I opened up my trusty Yelp app on my smartphone and the one suggestion that stood out was this one. Now, my sister and I could have gone to the Holly Hotel and hoped for a cancellation (we found out later that it was very packed), or just hit up one of the coffee shops or cafes on Saginaw Street, but no! We needed the warmth of old brick and alcohol to recover and renew. The snow had made the streets a little slippy and as we made our way around the festival area, we looked for the pub. It's a little nondescript from the outside so it took us a while to see it. Inside, it's beautiful, with warm woods and brick and tasteful advertisements for Guinness adorning the walls. As I said earlier, it was only 11:30 and the place was humming and almost packed. We took a table close to the door and were quickly greeted with a server who had menus and drink suggestions. I ordered a mulled cider with a water chaser and my sister got the White Christmas Martini. Check out the pictures! Not only were they beautiful, they were also expertly made. The bartender is a genius! lately we've had so many bad martinis and margaritas and whatever, that we had given up hope of ever getting something good when we step out. But these were awesome! We ordered from the lunch menu. My sister had the mushroom in puff pastry and I had the pie and mash. Both were lovely! You could tell that they didn't skimp on quality ingredients. We shared our entrees and decided to skip dessert this time because we wanted to enjoy the festival without being stuffed. Really enjoyed going to this place. The ambiance is the best out of all of the restaurants/bars in holly. The rotating drafts always have fantastic options and the food is delicious! The one downside is that when you find a favorite new drink, they take it away and rotate haha The Blackbeard burger is my husband's personal favorite. I like to change it up but have found that the chicken, any burger, and they're fried pickles are delicious!!! To go with the food, they have infused vodka, whiskey, and I think other options. They put a mix-to-too shelf liquor in with oranges or berries or whatever and let it set for a while - it creates such a delicious drink that you can have on the rocks. Overall, the blackthorn is by far the best holly bar and one of the best restaurants. read more

Came in here hoping to a get a good bar burger and I found exactly that. I ordered the Pub Burger with bacon and shoestring fries and was very pleased with both the tastiness of the burger and the fries where the bacon (add on for the burger I selected) took the burger over the top. Relative to the dining setting, this restaurant is an old coverted building with brick interior walls that really adds a lot to the overall abviance of the restaurant. Being a do it your selfer and a fan of restoration efforts, I I really enjoyed looking at the old brick work while waiting for my meal. Lastly the service was friendly, fairly quick and with good follow up during the meal. If you are in downtown Holly I would definitely give this restaurant a try as you will not be disappointed. read more

LOVE this place. When we moved this way, from St Clair Shores, we were looking for a place that was come as you are. With amazing drinks, lots of beer choices and friendly folks. Well, we found it. The food is fantastic-small menu, mastered-fish and chips is made with haddock-it's delish. Can't go wrong with a burger and fries. Friendly bartenders and servers. Still one of my go to's. Just wish they still had cellar days and were open earlier. Realize though how hard it is to find people willing to even work anymore, let alone work hard or care. The majority of staff they do have though is pretty solid from my experience. We were in town for the Wednesday night car show and we were hungry. We stopped in about 7:30 for dinner with 6 people. They said an hour wait but we only waited about 25 minutes and they text you when your table is ready so you can walk around while you wait. 4 of us had the black beard burger and the burger was nice and juicy with yummy toppings. I like lettuce and tomato on my burger and it didn't come with it but they brought some out for me. I didn't care for the shoe string type fries and mine were cold. A friend got the breakfast burger and liked it and another friend got the chicken flatbread and said it was pretty good. The place is very, very noisy and the service was just okay but the prices were pretty reasonable. read more

We visit every holiday season and love this place. They have a really great "bar" burger, a little Smokey and very tasty. Shoe strings fries come with it and those are my favorite. I also had the cheese soup and it was very good as well. It is clean and have several TVs to watch games. It was pretty busy and we had good service. If we lived closer we would Visit more often. read more
