I ate at Danny's with a group of about nine other ladies on a busy Saturday night. We phoned ahead for reservations, and it's a good thing we did. I wasn't expecting much based on the previous reviews, but was pleasantly surprised. It's Local Restaurant Week, but there was nothing I wanted in the specials, so I ordered the Texas steak off the menu. It came with a baked potato and carrots, and I added the salad bar for $2. The salad bar was very fresh & had plenty of variety for what it was. The steak was cooked precisely as I ordered it, and the potato was awesome. Our server had a lot of patience, and she needed it with a group so large at 8pm on a busy Saturday night. I really appreciated her sense of humor and fun, playful manner. She absolutely made the visit wonderful! When we arrived, we were told our table would be a little bit, so we were instructed to wait at the bar. The thing is, we took up almost the entire side of the bar & most of us weren't drinking, so it was uncomfortable to be sitting there taking up valuable real estate when all we were doing was waiting. The restroom was clean, but a bit small. The parking lot has a lot of spaces, but even that didn't seem to be enough. These things together may take off a star, but I can't see why people rate it so low. I will say the menu is very, very diverse. Chinese food. Steaks. Hamburgers. Salads. Seafood. Pasta. It was very hard to decide. And it's difficult to do all things well, so I imagine it can't all be amazing. What I had was pretty standard though, and I enjoyed the visit. read more

Very unimpressed! I visited and the food quality was poor. My fries tasted like fish and the server was just going through the motions. My needs were not met, and they were not much other than extra napkins and more water. I went to Danny's since it is one of few restaurants that offer a soup and salad lunch buffet. It was wonderful. Delicious. It comes with bread sticks and 4 soups. You could try all four if you wanted. My guest had a hamburger and was totally satisfied. They also have Mac and cheese and wings. I suggest you go there and get lunch. read more

I've been here about a half a dozen times and tried a few different menu items at lunch and dinner. Today my wife and I had the liver and onions, coconut shrimp, and the fish fry. Everything was great! The food and the service here are consistent and I've never had a bad meal. We'll be back again soon! read more

I came in for lunch after hearing that the Chicken Wing Soup was really good. From the moment I entered I was greated with a smile. The hostess asked how many were in my party and then sat us in a quiet area. Our server came over quickly, introduced herself, and took our drink order. While she was gone a second server came over to ask if we had been helped yet. It was very refreshing to have more than 1 employee concerned for us. We ordered food, splitting a steak sandwich, and each got a bowl of Chicken Wing Soup. Food came quickly and our server brought a second plate, without asking, so we could more easily share the sandwich. She returned numerous times to see how everything was, how we enjoyed the food, and to keep our glasses filled. I do not recall how they titled their soup. I believe they call it spicy wing soup. Flavor wise it is Buffalo hot sauce flavors in a bowl. Delicious. Perfectly smooth. Warming, and extremely enjoyable to eat. It had white meat chunks and not shredded wings. Traditionally, this soup made with wing meat is greasy and this soup was not. I found this more to my liking, especially at lunch time. The steak sandwich was home style cooking that would have benefited from a dipping sauce. It wasn't amazing, yet I don't regret trying it. The restaurant does feel a bit dated. However the decore seems charming. Booths were comfortable. There is plenty of bar seating space. Parking both on Genesee street and off-street parking to the side of the restaurant. I had a great experience here which is why I'm giving this a 4 star rating. The food was as expected, its warming and middle of the road, while tasting good and filling you up. read more

Haven't been in a few years. Excited to go back but was definitely disappointed. We ordered breaded fish fry- cod- as listed on menu. There was literally 1.5 inches of breading on both sides of fish. We order breaded everywhere bc it's usually a little lighter. We told the waitress- who replied yeah I don't normally recommend it. Might have mentioned that when we ordered. We literally gave her the plate of breading we peeled off. The soup and salad bar was great. I don't know if we will ever go back. The manager did nothing either. Disappointing for sure. Tried two soups from Danny's; the beef on weck soup and the spicy buffalo chicken soup. I was surprised to find how much I liked the beef on weck soup. I thought it would just be gimmicky but it smelled just like a beef on wick sandwhich and was a delish hearty soup that I dare say I might prefer over the original sandwhich itself! Ok maybe it's cuz it was insanely cold and snowing, but that soup reallllly hit the spot! The chicken one however was just not my thing... that one was definitely gimmicky. Danny's is the perfect place to go to get a quick fix of Buffalo pub food including a very solid plate of wings. First place to go after picking up your bags at the airport. This place used to be one of my favorites but the food is just incredibly bland, boring, and low quality. Also, the soup and salad bar that used to be included with dinners is now a $2 add on. Case in point, I ordered the open steak sandwich. Described on the menu as "sirloin served on garlic toast" I was expecting the garlic toast, steak, cheese, some dressing or sauce of some sort...but no. What came out was literally a piece of garlic bread with the toughest piece of sirloin on top and a sad onion ring. No seasoning, no flavor on the steak. It was truly awful. When I said something the waitress said "well it's described that way on the menu." I guess that is true, but this was a terrible excuse for a steak sandwich. read more

I have been so disappointed in the management and ownership of danny's!!! We had one awesome waitress and 3 horrible waitresses!!!!! The food is ok but we stopped going because of the service and management. My husband and I bought a dinner and added the soup and salad bar for 4 dollars extra. I asked for a doggie bag for my dinner because could not eat it..management came over and said we do not do that. I said I bought everything... she said but you did not touch your dinner. I said I am full...What right does she have to tell me I cannot have a doggie bag. I was just taking the dinner I bought home not the salad bar. I have to admit my waitress was awesome..she said we never turn people down for a doggie bag! she apologized over and over and gave us a free piece of pie!!! Danny's has a huge menu with lots of food choices. If you're looking for somewhere that has Buffalo food and normal restaurant/steakhouse food, you won't be disappointed. The salad bar is iceberg lettuce and various fixings, along with rolls and soups. The chicken wing soup is very good, not too spicy, but still has enough kick. Like others have said in their comments, the decor and atmosphere inside is very outdated. It's not lit up very well, the bar is the typical old school type of bar, tables and booths have a very 1980s feel. But, the employees are super friendly and I've yet to order something and it show up incorrectly or not good. read more

I got a chicken finger sub with fries and ended up with food poisoning within a couple hours after eating here. The sub was mediocre; chicken tenders were bland and roll was nothing special. The fries were undercooked and also bland. I had some of my friends buffalo chicken soup and it tasted way better than my sub, so I have to give them credit there. Our waitress barely interacted with us. We had to make it known that we needed more water after waiting about 10 minutes. The other employees didn't seem too enthused to be there either. I must say this place was really good! I ordered the fish fry which was a beer battered Cod, and had to try their famous buffalo chicken wing soup which was marvelous, idk what they put in it but it was thick and creamy, just amazing. tried some of their clam chowder as well. My wife and have gone to Danny's on many occasions and are mostly pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere. The food is always fresh, and made to order. This is the point when the review goes sour.....The date was 3/25/22 @ approx. 9pm. We were starred at by a hostess (no name) who had an obvious nasty disposition. My wife had to initiate conversation. We asked for an open table which had clear sight lines to both the hockey game (Sabres v Caps) and the lottery numbers. This was a round table to the far left as one walks in. She wanted to seat us in a booth and we asked for the specific table. When I said no thanks to the booth, I pointed to the round table and she said; "this table is dirty I can seat you at the table next to it. This table was for two, but was directly under the TV and we wouldn't easily be able to see the lottery numbers. I should also point out the restaurant was not busy. We politely asked if she or someone could clean off the round table (it had a few crumbs a straw and some used napkins but was otherwise clean. She didn't want to clean it off by how she was behaving but did so with obvious anger. She picked up the napkins, etc., sprayed down the table and wiped it with a rag. While she was cleaning, I told her how appreciative we were and thanked her. She responded with "SILENCE". When she was done, I said thank you again and she responded by throwing the menus on the table and walking away in silence never responding to any of my thank you's. It is my opinion to say this young lady should not be greeting people at your door. She was nasty, surly, and NOT customer friendly. Wow Really bad experience , elderly lady waited on 4 of us , took over 40 minutes to get food .... only 4 or 5 other tables ... Tried giving her the benefit of doubt but service was pretty bad ... no asking how is everything , need anything else ??? no water , missing silverware .... Food was only so so , felt like you were imposing when asking for a box to take remaining food home ... Elderly waitress made for a very uncomfortable sit down ... The menu promises 4 soups- there were 2. Their 'famous' breadsticks were -meh- and the waitress was abrupt. At one point she stopped at our table and said "are you done?" ... really? What was good? The Montreal meatball and mushroom soup was delicious and the bread was fresh. The meals of other diners looked very tasty. I'm sure I will try it again- but won't just plan on soup and salad, and I will hope for a more friendly waitress. read more

I had lunch there yesterday and the soup and salad bar was very good, my problem was the girl that was filling it dumped the cucumbers all over and they went on the sides of the bin and she put them right in the bin, I found that to be unsanitary, and the rolls were like hockey pucks. Our server was good until it came time to pay and the bill was all paid for she comes back and says oh I gave you the wrong bill, so it had to be taken of the card and then put back on for more money? I personally think we should of just had to be charged the difference not go through all that when it can put a hold on your card! I will go back and hopefully give 5 stars! read more

There is a decent selection (slaw, canned beets, cheeses, croutons, chi-chi beans, noodles bread, however for $11.99 throw in some better salad greens(red leaf, romaine) etc. It only has iceberg - crunchy, pale vegetable neutral in taste by definition. MEH, cheapest of the cheap. Also, Not a fan of their chicken wing soup. Not enough chicken or veggies in it for me, please use shredded chicken, my bowl consisted of thick broth, some potato squares and what I thought was chicken turned out to be a chunk of breading (are you using chicken fingers)?? blah. I wish I took a picture of the line up of Easter themed stuffed toys above the salad bar. Disturbing really, I get decorations but plush and food, no thanks. The staff were very nice, attentive, helpful, friendly, the works. The salad bar was decent and fresh accompanied by soup choices clam chowder, beef barley, Buffalo chicken and spicy tomato. For entree's there were what seemed like warmed canned potatoes, carrots, rolled slices of too done beef, roasted chicken and pasta with red sauce. I'm from out of town and looking for local fare. Danny's didn't disappoint! The atmosphere is great and the food is as well. I always get a reuban sandwich when I go somewhere new and their's is one of the best I've had. It's my first time trying buffalo chicken soup and I loved it. I really really want to love this place but it doesn't really do it for me. I am not from WNY so it could be that I don't understand the nostalgia of the place? Bathrooms are OLD and need a good clean. The soup/salad bar has decent selection but the plates/bowls are so small an awkward. Meals taste like they are made in mass then reheated... The food is not very complex (tasty/like chain food) and with so many other amazing places to eat in town I can't justify coming here at my own request it's always because someone else "loves this place" that I end up here. I've been going to Danny's since I was a child and I've witnessed the change in menus and offerings over the years so it's sad that it's not quite as great as it used to be. Average at best. Their salad bar is still hard to compete with and one of the last remaining of its kind in a world full of germaphobes so I'll give them kudos there. I'm not sold that they make the best soup in WNY, they just make the most and that might explain why had I not read the sign that it was cheeseburger soup I would have thought I was eating some kind of creamed canned corn beef soup. I do like that they have taken out the majority of potatoes in their chicken wing soup but it still baffles me that so many WNYers idolize this soup, it's easier and better at home. I have loved Danny's for many years BUT- tonight My husband and I went there with our 1 yr old son. The hostess sat us at a booth without even asking if we needed a highchair, booster- anything. I had to find them myself and then she came over and said we could not use the highchair- it was a fire hazard. The baby's meal took 45 minutes and we had to get it to go. The manager blamed me for not moving. Well I will never go there again. I hate to intrude on the facebook picture frenzy. read more

It was not at all what we expected. It's pretty old school in there. There is a friendly, neighborhood restaurant kind of vibe. It wasn't too busy as it was a Monday night. We were starving!! The server was quick and friendly. As a server for 14 yrs, the only thing I would say about his service is to remember the rule of serving "Never leave the table empty handed." Food was simple but good. And the hubs got the salad bar, because well...it says world famous so he had to. Along with the salad bar came breadsticks that were pretty solid; meaning they were great for dipping in the soup but probably not for just eating. I gave it 3 because my baked potato was a lil underdone and lil cold and the breadsticks. If it was busier I could forgive the lack of clearing but that took a star away too. Got take out from here. Ordered two fish frys, they came with large pieces of Haddock, a small portion of fries, small portion of cole slaw and a roll. Also had choice of soup or salad. One fish fry got soup (buffalo chicken wing soup) and the other got what they called a salad. First off, I love wings but that wing soup is gross. I do not know what people see in it. Second, the salad was gross too. They put it in the same bag as the fish frys so when we came home it was all wilted an warm. The fish frys were okay, nothing to really write home about. We've been to Danny's a few times over the last couple of years. It was close, had a variety of foods, and allowed for an easy night out with the kids. All our visits were underwhelming and passable for night where deciding what to eat was difficult. Underwhelming and passable turned to just awful. So awful we had to go somewhere else to get another meal. The server was apathetic and cold. She noticed an incorrect menu on the table from the hostess but did not replace it. She coldly asked for our order. When we asked for a little more time she darted back in a minute or two. We placed our order and waited quite a while for it to arrive. She didn't read us the specials as she did at other tables. In the meanwhile, soup and salad bar option was lackluster. Soups were greasy, packed with corn starch as a thickener, or just leftover soups. The salad bar showed signs of vegetables being left uncooled for too long. Wilting lettuce, translucent cucumbers, and darkening mushrooms. Blek. When our food arrived it was plopped down with disregard (another beaming example of apathy from our server). The food was awful - awful. The Ribs, Chicken, and Baked Potatoes were room temperature. My one year old snagged the potato off my plate before I could stop him - I realized no danger since it was certainly not hot. The BBQ sauce was watered down and very tomatoey. The Spaghetti was cold to the touch. The Chicken Fingers and Fries had that freezer taste from being pulled too early from the fryer. Save the spaghetti nothing was eaten. We complained when happy-sunshine server came back that everything was cold. She offered to reheat the items but I declined. It was already awful and microwaving it wouldn't add any benefit short of hot rubbery food. The manager came by 10 minutes later and offered once again. I explained that I wasn't interested in microwaving my food, making us wait 10 minutes for that too happen and not eating a meal together as a family. She countered with their reheating procedure of a convection oven but again, my family was eating and I wasn't going to make them wait for me. Just the check please. The joyless server returned 10 minutes later and offered free dessert. We declined. If you can't heat and serve hot food, I'm not about to take my chances with freezer-burned, crystallized ice cream and week-old pies. Blek. Just the check please. They did take the largest meal item off the bill. We paid and did not tip. The service was as abysmal as the food. No tip for you. Get better at your job. Not to mention that the other tables being served food after our complaint by the same waitress came with the warning that the plate was hot. Thanks for nothing. This morning our family was joyfully reminded of how terrible the food was with a night of stomach aches and the accompanying unpleasantries. Save your time and pass right by Danny's. There are better places to eat in Buffalo. read more

We recently visited Danny's because our first choice was closed. I am happy that it was closed because we had a great meal and had one of the best servers.
