Recently my Father had a skin cancer removed from his face which opened my eyes to the fact that I needed to be checked out. Several coworkers had been to this office and highly recommended Dr Dano so my wife called and made us both an appointment for a body scan. I had heard the office is very busy and I was not surprised when she told me the appointment was 6 weeks away. We waited a short time in the lobby to be called back to the exam room while listening to classical music which reminded me of being in a castle in Europe. Dr Dano has a great bedside manner and is very engaging and she actually did the exam herself. I fully expected a PA to do it which I've found common in other offices. I saw a NP when I went since it was just a basic skin cancer check and she was absolutely wonderful. She made me feel very comfortable and listened and went over everything that was happening and what her concerns were. I have some cystic acne and have yet to find a really good product when they pop up so she recommended some and gave me samples to try. I admit I'm big on trying things first since they are brand prescriptions I don't want to be stuck with a $40 tube of stuff that doesn't work. That was the good part of the visit. I was about to try one of the samples when I realized it had expired. I called the office and they told me to come in they would give me some new ones. I went in, they gave me a goody bag of samples and I left. Halfway down the hall I looked at what they had given me and realized it was expired as well. I went back in and POLITELY said "this is expired as well, is that okay to use?" She looked at me like I was totally putting her out (although there wasn't one person in the waiting room) and called to the nurse and said "that girl is back again with the samples." The nurse came out and I explained I was concerned that they were expired and she said I could still use them they just wouldn't be as effective. HUH?! That really turned me off so now I'm on yelp looking for a recommendation for somewhere else to try. :( read more

Dr. Dano is great but cant say the same thing about her office staff. Came in for a lunch apt and entire staff was away. They showed up a few minutes after my appointment time and then proceeded to call in two other patients whom they had booked for the same time. Not sure why they decided to book me for a time that they already had two other patients scheduled for, or why they showed up late for a time when they knew three patients where scheduled. About a full hour past my apt time I got to see Dr. Dano, who was very helpful. I just can't say that I'm very happy about spending 2 hours of my work day when I expected to only be there for one. read more

Dr. Dano used to be my favorite physician. I even paid out-of-pocket to see her. Needless to say, the current team at her office lack empathy, follow-through, and ethics. I do NOT recommend Dr. Dano. Further, Dr. Dano shares "research" in an outdated and unethical way. She doesn't seem to be able to diagnose the most simple conditions; those that other doctors identify right away. I really like Dr Dano, she is very easy to talk to about any issue. She is very intelligent through and intuitive. What I have had issues with is the front desk staff can be rude or just very short with you, especially on the phone. I also have waited for 40 min past my appointment time, today being no exception it is now 42 min past my appointment time and I have seen an assistant but not the doctor. Since my initial review, I have had MANY subsequent appointments for both acne and, let's call it, an unfriendly mole. First and foremost, everyone with any risk factors (like myself, shame on me for tanning in a bed) or anything they think even might be suspicious needs to do themselves a favor and get full body skin cancer screening. I had my appointment with Dr. Dano in January, and she was very thorough. Throughout the screening, she gave me an education on skin cancer, skin cancer prevention, etc. I learned so much in those few (10?) minutes. Here's the real reason, though, why you owe it to yourself to actually see a dermatologist once a year, instead of just showing your GP a funny mole: My mole Dr. Dano immediately spotted and flagged for removal? Is a mole I would never in a million years have thought was weird. If you asked me to show you my top 5 weird moles, that one would not have even crossed my mind. But because a full body screen doesn't let you self-select and Dr. Dano is very effective, my problem mole was *immediately* spotted, removed and treated. I don't think it's a stretch to say that Dr. Dano could have saved my life, or at the absolute very least if you insist I be less dramatic, she saved me a Whole Lot of Trouble down the road. I'm so thankful I convinced myself to see Dr. Dano and Shireen. So many people told me I was too young to be worried about skin cancer, but melanoma is the number one cancer in women in their 20s. If you think you need to see a dermatologist, listen to yourself and call Dr. Dano. Even if everything is perfectly fine, you'll know you are taking good care of yourself. Lovely ladies at the front desk, never a billing problem, lots of free samples and coupons, always quick to be seen (once they called me an hour in advance of my appointment to let me know they were running very late and to come at a specified time later that day--saved me so much time waiting at the office, why don't all offices do patients this courtesy?!), both Dr. Dano and Shireen take the time to listen to me, and you know, possibly even saved my life. read more

The lack of professionalism in this office is astonishing. Let's start with the front desk who were not only extremely rude when I was trying to schedule an appointment but kept me on hold for 15 minutes only to tell me that I should call back after their lunch break. The wait time horrors didn't stop there. It took me over three weeks to get a return phone call from the office. I left four voicemails yet the office couldn't bother to get back to me in a timely manner. Dr.Dano herself was running behind when I came to the office (what a surprise). The receptionist didn't even let me know until after 20 minutes when I went to the counter to ask her about the appointment. And she didn't apologize or anything just said to wait a few more minutes for Dr.Dano. When I finally did meet with her, she seemed like she could not be more bothered. I came in to get acne treatment yet we spent most of the appointment talking about school districts in Texas..like will that cure my acne?? She rushed out without really offering me any more information or solutions than when I came in. She said I should just keep trying the medication I was on for a few more weeks. So basically I wasted 3 hours in my day when I could have been at work to deal with rude staff and be told that I should just keep doing what I was already doing. I would 10/10 suggest seeing a different dermatologist. read more

I saw Dr Dano today, after making an appointment earlier in the week. Unlike the last dermatologist I tried to see, there was just a small (15 min) wait in the waiting room, before Michelle took me to the treatment room. Unlike other doctor offices I've been to, where you get a second "wait" in the treatment room, Michelle actually began interviewing me immediately asking detailed questions and making complete notes in my file. Before she was completely through Dr Dano came in and listened to my issues. She was thorough, professional and very on her game. No idle chit chat and false friendliness: a professional delivering service. She explains herself well, and indicates where future options might go. Candace, the second assistant then finished the session by providing samples, with coupons if I needed to buy more (some prescription, some not) later. She also was friendly and thorough as Michelle. In all, I spent more than 30 minutes with the doctor and her staff and felt like I was treated professionally, courteously and most of all thoroughly. Both the staff checking me in, and checking me out were thorough and efficient yet pleasant. I will be back. read more

I have been going to Dr Dano for 4 years now after being referred by my older sister. She is extremely knowledgeable, professional, down to earth, and trustworthy. She has never pushed products or treatments on me, but in fact listens to my concerns and works with me to formulate a plan together. Dr. Dano is amazing in that she understands how expensive treatments/medications can be and she goes above and beyond to help you with that. Her team is always polite, very sweet, accommodating, and well trained. I could go on forever about how blessed I feel to have found her as my physician and the results I've had with my skin! I don't think I've ever been more impressed by a physician. I was 10 minutes late, of course I called because I felt horrible about it, and the receptionists were extremely polite and understanding. Dr. Dano was very informative and her office operated so smoothly. Dr. Dano and her nurses gave me so much information and even airdropped some information regarding my condition to my phone. After medical students, medical malpractice lawyers are probably the worst group of hypochondriacs ever. Something about seeing all the bad health mishaps that can befall people can put you a little on edge. So, early in my career I handled this case where this guy in his 30's died of melanoma. Right then and there, I decided I'd better start getting regular skin checks by a dermatologist. Somebody recommended Dr. Dano to me, and I've been seeing her for a number of years. I really, really like her. She has a terrific bedside manner - no nonsense enough that I feel totally confident in her judgment and her professional opinion, but she's also great about answering questions and never acts condescending or makes me feel stupid. I know a big part of her business is cosmetic-type stuff like botox, microdermabrasion, etc., but she NEVER has tried to sell me any of these services or make me feel like I need them. In fact, she's never even suggested them to me - the only reason I know she does them is because I've seen them on her website. It would be easy for a dermatologist to prey on people's insecurities to upsell their products and services, and I so appreciate that Dr. Dano doesn't do this. Her staff is always very friendly and they always seem to be running pretty close to being on time (a rarity in the medical business, these days). They are also very generous with samples when I want to try something new on my skin, which is nice because some of these skin creams can be pretty darn pricey. I also think Dr. Dano looks and acts just a little bit like Linda Fiorentino's character in Men in Black. Need I say more? read more

I had a second appointment at Dr. Dano's office, with the P.A. Shirien. As happened last time, I had a long wait. One guy who was already in the waiting room before I arrived walked up to the receptionist desk and said he had to leave soon and that he had already waited 45 minutes. Ten minutes later he was invited back for his appointment. When my wait time hit 40 minutes I left. When anyone or any business OVER-books the person or business treats customers disrespectfully. It is disrespectful to people to structure one's operations premised on customers waiting long periods of time because of OVER-booking. I know from doctor friends that this over-booking method is taught as a medical industry practice. When I have challenged doctors about this they say, "Well, everyone does it." What are we, 7 years-old? Treat people with dignity and respect. While the bottom line matters for any business, treating people well matters, too. read more

Dr. Dano is "different." She takes her time and explains things VERY thoroughly so I like that much. Her staff is ok - nothing to brag about. Her wait times are AWFUL. I was told that the best time to see Dr. Dano is the very first appointment after their lunch break (so they couldn't get behind with their overbooking of patients throughout the day). I called and was told Dr. Dano is scheduling 3 months out. Wow. I've been seeing her for years and I've never waited LESS than 45 minutes to an hour in her waiting room - YES, being the first patient of the day or after their lunch break, even. It's ridiculous. Starting my search to find a dr who can get me in within a month and doesn't make me sit in the waiting room wasting my life away while they overbook patients and don't allot for the amount of time she takes with each patient. read more

I had two appointments here that went well. I had to book appointments about two weeks in advance, but the wait wasn't terrible and I found Shirien to be pleasant and helpful. However, when I wanted to book a follow-up after six months, I had no luck. Their voicemail greeting says they have a heavy call volume and will return calls to schedule appointments within 3 days. Over a two and a half week period, I left three voicemails and never got a single return phone call. I've now made an appointment to see another dermatologist. read more

I was really unhappy with Dr. Dano's office. The first strike against them was that they made my appointment with a nurse practitioner and failed to tell me. I am sure nurse practitioner's are just fine but I wanted to spend my money seeing an actual doctor. The second strike, and a personal pet peeve of mine, was that I was left waiting in the office a full hour past my appointment time. The staff was not very courteous about it all. On top of that the treatments that the NP prescribed didn't help. I canceled my next appointment with the office and haven't been back since. read more

Very good dermatologist! She is kind and thoughtful, and even listens! She is very busy yet I find that I can get an appointment fairly quickly to see her. Her office visits are moderately priced and she has given me ample samples of medications that have done wonders for the condition I was suffering from. (Which is very nice that she considers her clients!) Not all dermatologists are as good as her. If you find a doctor like this one who demonstrates true knowledge and training, who listens to their clients and engages with discussion (instead of being dismissive), AND who finds a solution for your problem then you have found a very good doctor. She is truly a good one!! (Which is a relief, because there are some real "quacks" in Austin that pose as dermatologists!) I will also say that I have been surprised and grateful that there is no up-selling of her other treatments. (Didn't know of what else she offered until I, too, had visited her web-site.) This is a mark of a truly caring doctor that she wants to treat you so respectfully. Women take their skin and skin issues very seriously and it is wonderful when you find a doctor that does as well. After trying many different dermatologists and not happy with any of them, I decided to try Dr. Dano a few years ago and I finally found a good dermatologist. I had a red mark on my face, can't remember what she called it, but all of the other dermatologists that I went to told me there was nothing they could do about it. When Dr. Dano saw it, she told me she could freeze it off and that's what she did and it has never came back. She has given me bioposy for skin cancer with minimal scarring. She gives me an annual skin cancer check and takes her time to look at every mole. She gives me free samples of prescription medicine to see if it will work or not which saves me alot of money. I really like her and her bedside manner. She is friendly and treats me like a person and not a patient. She has never tried to upsell to me a fotofacial or any of her skincare services like other dermatologists do. I have never waited for more than 10 min for any of my appts. This was probably my worst experience ever with a doctor. I made an appointment based on a recommendation from a friend of a friend. Here's what went wrong: 1)made to wait over an hour past my appointment 2)when I finally got in, she literally did not take her hand off of the door knob. She acted so incredibly annoyed when I asked her info. about something unrelated to the problem I was being seen for. And after waiting over an hour PAST my appointment, she spent less than 10 minutes with me. 3)when I came back in for my followup visit, I was immediately given a printed note informing me that I was not allowed to ask about any issues other than those that I had made my appointment for 4)her staff made a billing error that drug on for OVER SIX MONTHS before it was resolved with my insurance company. Dr. Dano is one of the finest physicians I have ever met. I am a cancer survivor with a complicated medical history. Twice, she has picked up on issues my daughters were having by ordering lab work and finding things that our PCP had yet to discover. I find all the staff to be wonderful as well. They work as a team and are capable and efficient. I have read some of the reviews on this page and wanted to address the issue of wait time in the office that some have spoken about. I think that the job of a dermatologist is one of the most difficult in the medical profession in regards to scheduling. If I call to make an appointment to have a mole checked on my forehead, the scheduling staff will be very clear that it is only that mole that will be addressed on the visit and they can estimate how much office time to block out. And since the skin is our largest organ, before I actually go in for that visit, I may find something else I would like her to take a look at. Perhaps that mole turned out to be something suspicious and required a biopsy. Then she might run over the allotted time, and if I have her check a couple of other things that are entirely different issues, now she might be running really late. Dr. Dano is thorough. When you bring up a problem, she knows all about it and takes the time to educate the patient. To me, this is invaluable. I would rather sit waiting in the waiting room every time for a doctor who is this skilled than to visit an office that might always be on time with a doctor of lesser quality. I think that we can help her by being very specific when we schedule. If she is running late, just know that she if giving the utmost thorough care to the patients before you and that she will provide that to you too. Bring a book. She is worth any amount of wait time. read more

The doctor is always in a hurry and spends very little time with the patient, also promotes a product which she's probably getting a commission to. Staff acts like they don't know what to do. Too paranoid and too nervous all the time. The only nice thing about this place is the aesthetician. I've gone to Dr. Dano for about 3 years now and she is an outstanding doctor! Dr. Dano is first of all thorough and comprehensive in her examination. I love that she has an internal medicine background; that training seems to brings a comprehensive scope to her observations. I love Dr. Dano! I've been seeing her since early 90's. Recently I had a very unusual skin reaction from insect bites that required numerous visits to her office. I love the fact that she never gave up on me. I know she did extra reading/research to better understand what was going on and even called to talk about what she found and treatment options. She even made sure she had all the paper work/lab results from other doctors I saw for same condition. I really appreciate her effort, communication, and compassion. I visited Dr. Dano many years ago and found her to be a wonderful doctor but her business office tactics were not up to my standards. I tried again in November of last year but was only able to see her physician's assistant who was competent (although she wanted me to come back to talk about an area she scraped that had since completely healed). I did not return....saw no reason for my insurance to have to pay for another visit. I was charged $200+ because I had not met my deductible...totally fair. When my insurance estimate of benefits came back I noticed that I had been overcharged based on how the office submitted and the insurance paid. I tried for 9 months to get my $90 back. Got a call today to tell me there would be no refund because the insurance paid a "bundled fee" rather than an "unbundled fee" (uh...they paid based on how it was submitted). So once again I am in the market for a doctor that is competent (Dr. Dana is certainly that), takes responsiblity for how claims are submitted and paid and who is business savvy enough to understand it's not worth losing a patient and reference over $90....that was truly owed. read more

Several of my friends highly recommended Dr. Dano when I needed to see a dermatologist. I've had nothing but pleasant experiences at Dr. Dano's office. Both Shareen and Dr. Dano take their time to answer questions about your concerns, are very knowledgeable, and make me feel very comfortable and at ease. Shareen has removed two atypical moles and was great--very little scarring and hardly noticeable! I also had to have a surgical procedure done with Dr. Dano and made me feel at ease since I was super nervous about it. She was so friendly and professional. When I had a concern post-surgery, the nurse returned my phone call within an hour and scheduled a follow-up appointment to address my concern the next day with Shareen at no charge. I took my son to see Dr. Dano for acne treatment. I was a little wary after reading some of the reviews on here (but had already made my appointment after much research into dermatologists in Austin). The waiting area is very relaxing and cozy. We waited about 10 minutes and were called back. The assistant asked my son some questions. We waited a few more minutes, (not too long in my opinion). Dr. Dano came in and was smiling, friendly and warm. She was personable yet to the point. She did the exam, and then told us of our options, answered all of my questions and addressed my concerns.
