1/4 rib rack combo and tri-tip sandwich combo

Friendly workers! Food hit the spot. Will definitely return. Price is also reasonable.

    1/2 of a full order of tri-tip

I was in the mood for some nice, smokey barbecue, and a friend recommended Dan's to me. I also think they did so because my name is Dan. I just wanted the meat itself, and I sprung for a full tray of tri-tip, thinking it'd last me for at least a few days. It was hot, juicy, thinly sliced, tender, lightly drizzled with sauce, and even though I wish it was a bit smokier, it was still delicious. And I was right about it lasting for a while, I was working on it slowly for a full week. This place just overall feels like good vibes to me. I've gone a few times now and it's been busy every time, the people who work there are plenty friendly, and the meat has been consistently tasty.

I was at a job site in the area and my coworkers mentioned another BBQ place. Since the job ran a little late, I found Dan's BBQ was a mile away and decided to check it out. It's at the end of an older strip mall - can't miss it. I loved how they set up a kiosk to order food and pick up on the side - creative! Also, Dan is very helpful in deciding what to order. Since I always share my BBQ at home, I ended up with the sampler platter (ribs, brisket, pulled pork, cole slaw, chili beans and Texas Toast). I added Mac & Cheese because I wanted to eat something before I drove home. The mac & cheese was filling and has bacon bits on top. When I got home, I had a little bit of everything. Out of the meats, the pulled pork was my favorite. The chili beans have a mild kick to them, but out of the sides, the cole slaw was my favorite. There was way more than enough portions that I was able to have this for stretch this out a day or two. When I was leaving, I saw they also server burgers, fries and shakes. If I'm in the area again, I will definitely have to try it out.

This is not the brisket slices that they advertised. More like lunch meat.

For $38, you get 3 baby back ribs, 1 hot link, some lunch meat, and 2 small sides. That is my main complaint. The advertisement shows thick cut brisket slices. What you get is thin transparent slices of lunch meat. The flavor was just okay at best. Let's just say that I'm still looking for a good BBQ place in Modesto.

They've got two picnic tables under tents and a small parking lot (about 10-12 spots), plus plenty of additional parking just across the street within easy walking distance. I ordered the 2-meat combo ($25) with brisket and ribs, choosing collard greens and baked beans for my sides. My wife ordered the tri-tip sandwich with yams and baked beans. They were cool enough to sell me a 1-meat plate instead of forcing the combo, which saved me a few bucks--and I appreciated that. There's a $1 credit card fee, which didn't bother me at all. My wife loved her meal and said it was a lot of food and everything tasted great. My brisket had a nice bark and a legit smoke ring. The ribs were tender and fell right off the bone. The baked beans were solid, but the collard greens really stood out--some of the best I've had at a restaurant. Prices are average for BBQ, portions are generous, and I had enough left over for dinner later. You can tell this is real BBQ--they've got a huge BBQ pit smoking meats, and it shows in the flavor. The BBQ sauce was very good. The two guys working inside were friendly, answered all my questions, and made ordering easy. Highly recommend. I'll definitely be back.

This worked fine for us. We had our menus and drinks in a reasonable time, and had a relaxing time throughout. We both had the pulled pork sandwich along with the ice tea. My friend, whom I realized often fusses about the meals we share, was more critical. His comments were "Wrong bun, hamburger bun shoulda been an onion bun" and "How long does it take to make a sandwich?" (The wait time was totally reasonable to me.) He didn't like the potato salad (but ate it all with little time spared). He liked the meat in the sandwich, giving it a 5 out of 5. He liked the service less (I felt it was on point and just fine.) Since it took so long, I ended up taking the food home. I did try it later, but I wasn't very impressed. Well if you are living in Modesto , and have been looking for real BBQ and I mean REAL GOOD BBQ .. then my strawberry stand being closed sent me down 132 , so drove a bit further to take Dakota Ave. home .... And on the side of the road as we turned from 132 were wind flags calling me to stop and look around BBQ .. there to my left a small orange trailer just beyond a huge smoker .. to the trailer we went an array of BBQ fair listed on menu board ... now I have been looking for good bbq in Modesto for some time, and in my opinion There has been none since "My Sisters Kitchen " closed, there some good BBQ people serving the community, but seems to me no one really stood above the rest .. until now Biggityo's BBQ on Dakota Ave. we purchased 1/2 pound brisket and a full rack of pork ribs and a small Mac &cheese. WOW incredible? The brisket was flavorful tender and a generous 1/2 lb for sure, came with a small container of BBQ sauce sauce was good , nice spice but as my wife said not necessary... the meat was that good on its own. The Ribs , shiny meaty tender and so delicious, nice bite a bit of smoky goodness that did not over power the meat, sauced with just a whisper of a sweet and spicy sauce. This was the best BBQ I have had since my last visit to Rolling Smoke in Las Vegas, it used to be when asked I was going to Vegas to play pool , now when asked , I am going to Vegas for the BBQ. Now I am happy to say I can just stay in town to enjoy exceptional BBQ. It may be what's for dinner tonight too ..

I usually end up getting the cornbread because the other options don't really appeal to me. On today's visit, I also noticed the price for the sliders didn't match what was listed on the board. When I politely mentioned it to the cashier, she didn't respond or acknowledge it, which made the interaction feel awkward and dismissive. I wasn't trying to make an issue out of it; I was simply pointing out that the posted price should match what customers are charged. If the sliders are $8.78, put $8.78 on the board. If they're $8.24, put $8.24 on the board. It may seem minor, but inaccurate pricing can come across as careless or even dishonest, especially if it happens repeatedly. I also think the front register needs stronger customer service. The person at the register is representing the business, and when a customer brings up a legitimate concern, it should be acknowledged professionally. Having someone more mature or better trained handling checkout would make a big difference. Overall, the barbecue is moving in the right direction, but the sides, posted pricing, and customer service still need attention.
