A few weeks ago I picked up some of the Dan's Chocolates Caffeinator round truffles at the Vermont Butcher Block on Church Street in Burlington. Whoa. These puppies have some serious ground coffee in them. You can feel little bits of coffee in your mouth. Tried Caramel River too, was good for caramel but I'm addicted to Caffeinator (and I need it). The other thing I liked about them is they are bit sized - one of my pet peeves is huge, king-sized chocolate bars. These are the right size for an afternoon pick-me-up. read more

Fun chocolates! You can get a personalized box - just send them a picture and they'll put it on a box. They're not my absolute favorite but they are always fresh and tasty (flavors like Almondanza, Coco Motion, Chief Chokolada, Drom-a-Dairy, Mintastic). They have a 'Freshness Guarantee': "All of my chocolates are guaranteed to arrive fresh because we make them daily in small batches and ship them directly to you from my chocolate factory." I placed an order for my sister's birthday (part of her gift) and gave them to her at her party. I got her one of their personalized boxes of chocolates, with a picture of her & her children [very easy to create online], and it came out ADORABLE -great quality and a unique gift! The chocolates were great, too, and the chocolate caramels were my favorite. This one one of the most talked about gifts at the party, too. I would definitely suggest this as a "perfect gift" idea for anyone who loves chocolates. read more

We sent Chocolate Truffles (50 pc combination flavors) and a 63 pc. Pallet of sugar-free truffles to a friend in Missouri. It was shipped via Fed-Ex but when they received the shipment the carrier mishandled the shipment and the pallet broke open and spilled the chocolates. I wrote Kim at Dan's Chocolates and the following day the replacement was on its way. Their service has been very good and the quality has been excellent. Our friends were very happy; especially our friend who has diabetes. He said the sugar-free truffles were the best he had ever had. read more

I ordered 10 boxes of chocolate from Dan's Chocolates this year for shipment the second week of December expecting delivery early the third week. I sent an email at the end of the second week to verify that they were shipped and got a terse email with an excuse saying that they were working hard to ship product. I called on December 19th to tell them nothing had been received and that I had people who would be going out of town on the 22nd and I wanted to be sure that they received the product before they left. All the person could tell me was that they were shipped; not when, but that they were shipped. The boxes I ordered for myself arrived December 24th at 6 PM - almost too late to deliver them to the friends I intended to give them to. Boxes to two other recipients arrived after Christmas. I wrote an email to Dan's Chocolates expressing that I was unhappy that they did not ship as they promised. The response was: "Thank you for letting us know. We had a very busy holiday season and tried our best to get everyone their products." No, sorry, or apology or anything. I think Dan's Chocolates simply doesn't care about the customers because they've grown so large that they feel they no longer need their customers. I, for one, will consider other options in 2019. read more

In southern Vt I am seeing the Dan's truffle balls in a bunch of grocery and natural food stores - they're all natural which is a nice change. Anyway, for Christmas I ordered 2 gifts from their website for friends in California. One box got totally destroyed in shipping and I called Dan's and they replaced it and overnighted it for free for me - to a new address! This was so nice, I can't recommend them enough. read more

I tried to use a Dan's Chocolate coupon I purchased to place an order on their website. I tried to enter both numbers on the certificate - the "code" number and the number under the bar code, but was told both were invalid. Then, I tried calling their customer service phone number, but both the "residential" choice and the "customer service" choice (I called back twice to try both selections) only had a pre-recorded message saying that they don't accept phone calls - you have to use the website. Seriously?!!! Then why list a "customer service" phone number on the website? So I emailed them, explaining that I wanted to take advantage of ordering today and getting it delivered on Friday because that's my last day home on vacation. The email response I got a few hours later was only that the coupon website (a reputable one I've dealt with multiple times) must have given me an incorrect coupon code. No apology or any mention of trying to help me place my order. These people are the opposite of helpful and could care less if the customer is satisfied or not. If I could give 0 stars, I would have. I got a refund from the coupon company, rather than deal with these folks. read more

This company has the worst customer service. I ordered some chocolates for a very special occasion and even paid rush shipping to get them out to CA on a Tuesday ( I ordered on a Friday). Comes Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and still no chocolates and no e-mail from the company. I called the company and got a message saying they don't take customer service over the phone. So I sent an e-mail on the Thursday and didn't get a response until the Friday stating that there were many mechanical issues with FedEx planes! Please- that sounds like a pathetic excuse to me. FedEx has almost always had excellent customer service and has never been grounded for that long. In addition, once an order has been submitted to Fex Ex, you get a tracking number. The company couldn't provide me with a tracking number, so obviously they hadn't submitted it to FedEx. I should have stuck with the tried and true See's Candy. read more

I have ordered from Dan's several times over the past 18 months. The truffles themselves are very good. The problem is that lately their customer service SUCKS! The substitute product without letting you know and then make you jump through hoops to get it returned or money back. 12 days it took them to refund my money once they got the truffles back 12 days!!! The last straw was my last order. I sent in the order and expected it within 3 days as usual. The day comes; nothing. I check my email; nothing. I contact them and was sent an email stating my address was wrong. WHAT?? No phone call, no email, no notice at all, and it's now 6 days from the date of my order and the date they took the money out of my account!! I gave them my address AGAIN and wait. No reply, no letting me know it was all good. So I call them. She tries to tell me they've been waiting to send my order until the milk chocolate truffles are done. Huh?? She says they will overnight them. Next day, nothing. 2 days later, they show up and they are the wrong milk chocolate truffles!!!! It's better to go some place else until they get back some quality customer service. read more

Very surprised at the negative review blaming Dan's and not Fed Ex. I have had great customer service from Dan's even when it was obviously the shippers fault. On the other hand, I have had lot's of problems with shippers. My standard comes from working at a "Magical" place that prides itself on going the extra distance so I expect a lot, and I deal with poor shipping on a regular basis. I have given Dans Chocolates as gifts for over 10 years based on quality of product, their commitment to their community service, and their customer service. I just got my first order from Dans. I usually make my own truffles but was in a time crunch so I thought I would give them a try. I ordered one tray of the dark chocolate truffles just to test them out before putting in a big order. I am glad I did. They came packaged in a great styrafoam lined box with ice packs and were delivered as ordered. However the quality and look of the chocolate was very disappointing. the truffles looked like they were scuffed and rolled around on something rough, very unattravtive looking. The tase was aweful!!! The outer chocolate coating was a hard chewy very cheap quality coating and the center was a runny over sweet center. They tasted terrible. If you are expecting a melt in your mouth chocolate experience don't get these. They looked cheap and tasted cheap. A big disappointment. read more

I have been eating chocolates for a long, long time, so when I first heard all the hype about Dan's Chocolates, I was anxious to give them a try... WOW!!! What a disappointment. This stuff is mediocre at best and it's really a toss-up as to which part of their overrated product line is less appealing than the other. If I had to make that call, it is their bar chocolates that fall short of their highly overrated truffles. Neither line impresses and there are plenty of over-the-counter chocolates that truly puts Dan's chocolatey messes to shame. These are not gourmet or artisinal offerings by any stretch and for a few dollars more , or less in some cases, you can do a whole lot better than this! read more

For two years now I have tried to order Dan's for my 93 year old mom. Prior to their switch to internet only ordering I ordered for years from them on the internet. Now there is a lot of hinky stuff about credit card stuff. I would be very careful. Try calling a number they offer after having a problem with an order!... or when the system asks for more info than needed. There is not one. STAY AWAY, and thats from a former big fan. Oh my goodness. I ordered the hazelnut, mocha, milk chocolate, and raspberry to make wedding favors. They were the biggest hit and I have to say, it was questionable whether they would make it to my daughter's wedding. I have no doubt I will be a return customer. The best ever. read more
