Next up was a double scoop on a waffle cone, which was huge and made to perfection. The chocolate chip flavor was just okay, but the strawberry? It tasted like they literally went out to a farm, picked the strawberries, and turned them into ice cream right there. That flavor deserves a 10 out of 5. Visiting Vermont for the first time and decided to check out Burlington, Vermont. While walking around a very sketchy college town we stoped by Lake Champlain Chocolates to get a treat. The staff was nice and the store is nicely set up with treats all around. It was a warm day so we decided to get some ice cream to cool down. I got the Black and White ice cream shake. It was really good. Unfortunately it was too hot of a day to purchase chocolate of any kind. We were still going to be walking around and it would melt for sure before we got it back to our place. Well, I ordered some chocolate bars with hazelnut praline filling for a Victorian Christmas tea that I was giving. I was surprised to see that the ingredients included a great deal more than chocolate and hazelnut praline. Actually, I was disappointed because we all know it's difficult to get exquisite chocolate here in the United States, I thought Lake Champlain chocolates were a cut above. I looked at the ingredients after I took a bite of the chocolate with hazelnut praline filling because it did not taste right; it tasted like it had other stuff in it besides high quality chocolate and hazelnut praline filling. I looked at the label and sure enough it has a LOT of other stuff in it that should not be in it. I took a photograph of the front and back of the labels but I don't know if I'll be able to upload it. Before you buy, if you are a purist like me, I recommend you read the labels. At least I can tell you that the ingredients included wheat, soy beans, peanuts, and other things that really shouldn't have been included. I am soooooooooo disappointed. Unfortunately, I shall not be buying any Lake Champlain chocolates anymore because I want to buy the real thing. Went into Champlain chocolates and even though it was busy, they got us our orders quickly and efficiently. Is the place pricey for wha it is, yes, but is it quality chocolate, also yes. This is in a very convenient spot and easy to find on the main street. When you walk in the smells are amazing! It's hard not to buy 1 of everything, but then you see the price. Everything is quite expensive here, so I decided just to try a few truffles and take home some syrup for later. I think I got a small bag of chocolates for $36! (It wasn't marked, or I probably wouldn't have got it). While I waited forever in the line to checkout, many people came in to order coffee drinks and ice cream at the fast end. We stopped by on a warm summer day, appreciating the A/C and the waft of chocolate in the air. What's not to love about being a grown kid in a chocolate store? The store is set up in a streamlined way with wooden display shelves housing packaged chocolates on one side and a large variety of small batch chocolates behind glass on the other. We were greeted by two friendly staff members who allowed us to peruse the packaged chocolates without interruption. Once we made our selections there, we set our sites on the small batch. I selected a chocolate marzipan fish, and my partner selected a peanut butter cup. Both were delicious, as were the variety of bars that we've spent the last month eating! I always have to stop in Lake Champlain chocolates when I'm in Burlington. They usually have great deals like buy 4 chocolate bars get 2 free, etc. They have an ice cream shop inside too that's super yummy! Tons of truffles you can buy individually or create your own box. These chocolates were $5 each at my local grocery store. As you can see from the photos, they are very small, not tiny, but more short and stout but I figured I'd give them a try. I'd never seen them before, so I bought two kinds that sounded good. The texture was fine, the one with the hazelnut praline was nice and crunchy the chocolate was smooth. The caramel one was silky. You could tell it was caramel. But they both tasted like flavorless wax. You knew you were eating caramel and chocolate, but it didn't taste like it, and it was the STRANGEST thing. The texture had so much potential, but the taste was an epic fail. They both tasted like nothing, like I was just chewing room temperature wax. These being called "five star bars" must come from the price because it definitely does not deserve a five star review. read more

I stopped in yesterday and was mildly overwhelmed by the choices...but finally decided on a chocolate covered marshmallow (on a stick). So fresh and very high quality chocolate. I had also received a gift the day before of the chocolate covered marzipan (shaped like a bee...adorable)....and that was delicious as well. Chocolate covered cherries are a winner, too.
