Shows up and tries upselling basic service. Wanted to charge $350 for 1.5 hours of work. When I refused because this was $150 dollars over what he quoted, he demanded $50 for his time of driving to my home, looking at my piano and explaining his "work". I'll add my praise to that of other piano owners. I just wish I'd taken a photo of Dan with his mask and apron on, special vacuum cleaning and tuning tools neatly laid out. My hand-built Yamaha grand had a buzzing in the lower register. He discussed with me the possible causes, from structural separation to just grit and possible hidden foreign objects. :) He checked the integrity of the soundboard and support structures, cleaned everything internal, tightened hardware and found the hidden offending objects, a small piece of plastic and pencil. (Note to self: keep track of the pencil when marking up music and consider closing the lid when not in use.) He tuned it, smiled and said "you're all set." It was a very reasonable price and he's a master. He was trained by a now-deceased expert who I'm familiar with. What a great guy. read more
