See a need...fill a need. Narberth Community Food Bank was started ten years ago by volunteers who…read moresaw a need for a food pantry in an area that didn't seem to need one, except it does. People think of the Main Line as exclusively wealthy, and it isn't. There is poverty, it is more well hidden, though. They provide food for those who need it, personal care items, often clothing. They've provided literacy programs, computer literacy and reading. They will help people apply for benefits, and they actively work with other agencies to find housing, help with utilities, education, social supports and more. They're located in the former Narberth School building, on the second floor. There's a good sized parking lot and some on-street parking, and thanks to ramps they are fully handicapped accessible. The location is within a block of the 44 Bus stop and they are about 5 blocks from the Narberth Train Station. They accept donations of food and personal care items. Note that when they are closed they have bins outside their door for non-perishable donations, and for perishable items they will make arrangements to accept your donation if you need to come at another time. It's a great organization that serves the community well. I am happy they are there, and glad to support them.

I was made aware of this Food Bank when I was looking for a volunteer opportunity a few hours a…read moreweek and then I met GiGi who is the "Captain of this Ship" and welcomed me with open arms and many brown bags to fill on a Tuesday Morning to be delivered on the Main Line (Wynnewood, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, etc) YES!!!! So many local families needing fresh, canned & packaged food and personal products. Eventually I drove with a partner to make deliveries until the morning I packed my trunk with 8/15 pd. bags and whoops! took several weeks to recover (perhaps @85 years old it was time to hand this over to another volunteer!) The comradery of other volunteers stays with you as well as knowing you are soooo important to this community.

Alert!!! under new management and went from exceptional to trash overnight! The new management…read moredoesn't care and doesn't have a clue how to run a food pantry. They are only concerned with getting financial donations! The food I got under new management was poor quality basically someone's trash. Expired food, moldy stale bread, un marked tin cans, and repackaged raw meat with no labels. one client showed me a rodent had chewed on the corner of a food box - she said be careful to me. Oh even more disgusting is The leadership was rude and condescending to many other clients, treated a handful like they were trash! It disgusted me to witness . The former director Paul truly cared! Now it's just a nasty place! Wow they don't run things orderly anymore. It was chaos in line. The new director clueless Mikey and the other leadership team were standing around - the director was talking down to while ordering a very elderly volunteer around! Yikes - you could see the stress and anger flowing from Mikey. I believe that old guy quit that night. Hostile Hostile Hostile - So much so I couldn't stay a second day in such a hostile place. One of the volunteers, an older crass woman, was making racist remarks as some of the clients of color were exiting. It was soo sickening it hurt deeply I just left. I didn't want to be anywhere around that place. I'm in need and I left hungry. I will never go back to that location. I hear the church is suing Paul personally for $50,000.00 plus and all for their own chaos - it's clear to me who is causing problem! It is soo sickening to hear of the church's unthinkable actions against Paul!!! It is well known he has volunteered there for at least 25yrs - that action against him alone shows they only care about money.All the rest I've commented on only reinforced that thought in my mind. I bet they are drinking the food banks cash flow dry Their own little or not so little piggy bank. Any way you slice it - it smells!

What was once shelves of gardening products and their unique backyard plant sales is now a lovely space with comfy chairs tables, a small kitchen and a backyard patio. Everything is accessible and sensory-friendly. The goal of this nonprofit is to bring together community members of all abilities, ages, social groups, etc. They have a broad variety of programming - everything from making your own yoga mat and painting with watercolors to cooking to tabletop gaming and movie nights. Their director is very good to work with and open to new and interesting programming that is inclusive. Groups can also rent the space for meetings such as Civic meetings and such, there is a fee if it's not an open-to-all activity. I've gone there twice for activities, and it was great both times. Highly recommend going for their activities and such. It's pretty cool.

There he is schlepping heavy stuff in the rain from the car to the lobby, while Goodwill's young, fit, paid employee stood watching. I got out of the car, visibly annoyed. "Can't you help?!" I asked. "No," he responded. "I don't want to get wet." Over the years we've donated a bunch of stuff to Goodwill in various states around the country. Clearly this child goes to CGRC because they need help and for this Dr. to not refill the prescription that this child needs to be able to psychologically function during the day in school is unacceptable. The lack of communication in the office between staff members and the follow-up to parents is devastating to the child and family that needed their help. Also if you call to try to get someone live, they keep sending you to a voicemail to leave a message and no one returns your call

I stopped by a few days ago to check out their new store. It's significantly bigger than Nana's Attic, which means it feels far less cramped. Yay! Still very good prices, the "yellow tag" items are consignment and generally higher priced than the store's donated stock. It about killed my soul to see an awesome vintage salt & pepper mixed in with newer dishes in a consignment lot. Aaah! Staff are great, the store is clean and bright. I'll definitely be back. Note: angled parking in front of the building is NOT free, Pontiac is a public street, and those are pay at kiosk metered spots.
