The clothing selection is fill with dated trends, and not in a charming, vintage way--just the same tired styles year after year. Or they OVER buy on a trend from the 2000's....There's no variety. There's nothing that makes this place worth a visit. Most of the staff is just as uninspiring. They offer a halfhearted greeting when you walk in, but beyond that, they're completely disengaged--mostly standing around with their arms crossed, looking like they'd rather be anywhere else. Which makes sense because they barely make minimum wage, which is concerning considering how much the owner walks away with year after year. I probably wouldn't be inspired to help customers either. It's pretty obvious that the owner of this store couldn't care less about their employees--or their customers, for that matter. Unless you're looking for outdated clothes and indifferent service, I'd recommend shopping elsewhere. Darien sport shop seems to have survived the online revolution with help from, you guessed it Santa Claus. Every year Santa comes and kids line up from across the country to sit on his lap and tell them what they want. In Darien, that could be a new Canada goose jacket (available at DSS) or a new pair of Nordic skis (available at DSS). Maybe even a new Range Rover (not available but DSS can order it). And for the adults who brave the intense December line to catch a glimpse of the big guy, they setup a makeshift bar (no charge of course) with Bloody Mary's, Mimosas, Beer, Wine, all the fixings. Back to Santa, did I mention this guy is the real deal? He claims that he runs a bird seed shop in the off season, lol. Yea Kringle, I ain't buying it. Tell those elves at the North Pole that the socks you brought me in '94 were bull$#&!. Jk I'm a good boy I take it back. read more

Nobody was friendly or asked to help. I don't understand their lack of common courtesy working in retail.

My friends and I rented ski gear here. We got properly fitted however the man helping us must have switched up the boots since the ones he ended up giving us didn't fit us. I was literally unable to fit my foot in the boots, which I unfortunately didn't realize until we got to the mountain. I even had a ski instructor try and get me in the boots but we had no luck. My friend had a similar issue in which he couldn't fit his foot into the boots given to him. Turns out we were both given boots that were wildly too small for us and had to rent another pair of boots at the mountain. I get it... mistakes happen, and mixing up our boots with another customers I'm sure is an easy one to make. The unfortunate part of this is that we were now out hundreds of dollars and DSP refused to refund us. They literally gave us the wrong boots, ones we couldn't even use - I'm truly baffled at why they wouldn't refund us. Suffice to say, we will be renting elsewhere from now on. I HIGHLY recommend anyone looking for ski rentals go somewhere else too. Totally not worth the hassle they put us through. read more

If your sport is a light game of tennis at the club before you change for cocktails, then this is your shop! Otherwise, look elsewhere for actual gear, equipment and sportswear. Darien Resort Shop would be a more fitting name, but I hardly mean that as a negative. From bottom to top - 3 floors! - this store is full of gorgeous and high quality clothing, accessories, shoes and gifts. CT style at its best - Calypso for the ladies, Vineyard Vines for the gentlemen and teeny-tiny Lilly's for the prepsters-in-training. Ray Bans and Hunter Boots for everyone! The space itself is always clean, uncluttered and fully staffed. You'll pay a pretty penny for whatever you carry out in their trademark glossy green bag, but no doubt you'll be happy with the purchase regardless of the price tag. Darien Splurge Shop! We routinely rent and buy ski and other sports equipment from the Darien Sport Shop. Although there are 2 floors of clothing etc on the 3rd floor they carry sports and ski equipment attuned to the sports of the season. The staff are excellent and very knowledgeable. Prices are fair, and for childrens ski equipment, it is hard to find a better deal for renting for the season. I rate them five stars particularly for their customer service: the staff went above and beyond several times to make sure we were satisfied with our gear. Excellent establishment, highly recommended. read more

The quality and presentation of the items in this store is excellent. HOWEVER unfortunately the quality and attitude of the staff leaves much to be desired. When picking up a rather expensive suit that my husband needed to have altered, the "gentleman" he asked to help him came back and rudely handed him the suit without even asking if he wanted to try it on or saying thank you. News flash Darien Sport employees being friendly and courteous should continue even after the customer has bought and paid for an article. read more

This is one of the worst and most unprofessional retail establishments I've ever been to in my entire life. The staff is pretentious and rude. I was there to shop when Dylan Lauren happened to be doing a book signing event or something. There was some sort of protest going on outside, people handing out flyers. The staff totally freaked out and started yelling and making more of a scene than the protesters. The whole thing was ridiculous, I just left the store without turning back. read more

I got a $100 gift card to the Darien Sport Shop for christmas and was excited to use it. The store is huge which can be quite overwhelming at first. In a store like that I think it is incredibly important to have employees who greet you and help you find what you are looking for (men shoes, in my case). I wandered through the store and tried to make it as obvious as possible that I was looking for something but not a single person asked if I needed any help. I eventually found my way to the shoes where there was a man at a desk. I looked at some of the shoes and he made no inclination to help me at all. He was nice when I asked him for the price of a shoe and to get another size in the back, but gave me no other help besides that. I understand it is an incredibly busy season and the store had lots of customers but customer service is something that they really need to work on. They need to help everyone, regardless if the person is wearing a T-shirt and jeans or a multiple thousand dollar suit. read more

Pricey and if you are looking for made to order- go elsewhere. A successful made to order program needs someone who has attention to detail and knows how to make a customer happy- especially when one pays a premium at a shop that has a higher proce point...p I had a half dozen m-to-m shirts cut. At the time I ordered them, the sales person told us that the finish time takes 3-4 weeks. It took 19 weeks altogether. The second order came out the wrong fabric, cut and nothing like I ordered. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, he remade the shirts and selected his own style in collar and cuffs-. Remake number 3 came back incorrect again. Lucky for me- the vendor ran out of fabric. Te sales person-Matt who came from Brooks Brothers can't seem to get anything correct. To my amazement- he suggested allowing him to have a suit made through Darien Sports Shop. If I wanted to throw away money- I would rather give open a window and do so. Where was the manager or store owner to address the issue? Stay away and go to Richards or Mitchell's for made to measure. read more

The employee's at the Darien Sport Shop go above and beyond. It's was a Friday 10 mins after closing hours and they graciously let me and another mother in to buy our son's very specific football pants so they could attend football practice that day. Everyone was so courteous and helpful even though they obviously wanted to go home. It was very appreciated thank you Darien Sport Shop! read more

I like this place. The sports section on the 3rd floor has items you won't see at REI or Wilton sports, and the people there are friendly, knowledgeable, and actually available to help. I've never had to wait around, never had a grumpy salesperson at Darien Sports. We rent kid skis there and it's always been great. read more

Bought some skis and boots from Patrick and he was really helpful/knowledgeable. He could have steered me to more expensive equipment, but his priority was finding the right gear for me at a reasonable price. Patrick actually demos all of the men's skis that he sells. I compared prices in advance and Darien Sport Shop was the exact same on everything as other ski shops in the area. They also offer a boot fit guarantee that most other shops do not. Yes you are usually paying top retail dollar at the Darien Sport Shop and they do primarily cater to high income families but there are many positives to this business which has had a middle class local like myself support this store. First of all there are some items and services which are on par price wise with shops you would perceive to be less expensive, like kids and adult sports items and services. Second, where they stand out from almost any other shop in the area is that they are a family run business and provide exceptional customer service. Much like Mitchell's/Richards in Westport and Greenwich. For example, I rent the kids seasonal skis from them every year. They are local and cost the same as the major ski shops. This year fitting went fine but when we returned two weeks later to pick up the skis they couldn't find the rental. Now we didn't need the skis right away but my daughter was dissapointed that they weren't ready when we went in. We left after they said they would put something together in a couple days which I guess was OK. About 15 minutes later I got a call asking us to come back and have her refitted and in addition they will rent her brand new equipment and have the skis ready on the spot. This just says to me, listen we made a mistake and its not up to the acceptable level of customer service a shop like this should provide. This is what sets them apart from the rest and what has had me shop there for years and will have me return. Oh, and the Darien Sport Shop also often has seasonal sales which rival any major high end retailers so you don't always pay top dollar there. read more

The Darien Sport Shop doesn't even deserve one star. The staff is rude and not interested helping customers. I was not sure what department I would find the item I was looking for. But I couldn't get one person to help me. The female staff on the first floor just stood together talking and did not make any effort to help me when I try to get someone's attention. It was the same in every department I went to. When I finally found someone who was willing to answer my question, she yelled at me "What do you want?" The staff is very unprofessional. Do not waste your time shopping here. They are not interested in making a sale. I found what I was looking for at Sports Authority where the staff was very friendly. read more
