I didn't buy anything there. The staff however were VERY professional and accommodating, and the store were curated wonderfully. Leaving a 5 to counter some of those VERY old 1star reviews about staff who are likely no longer employed at the store. Upon my visit to Portsmouth I was determined to find a cute boutique to do some shopping at. Luckily, I found Bliss! The store is beautifully merchandised and carries local brands, such as Milo in Maine, picked up two tees to take back to San Diego! They also carry more well known brands, AG Denim, Hanky Panky underwear (my fav!) and Calypso. This store is a great destination if you are looking to complete a whole outfit. They have great jewelry, scarves and fragrance as well. I wanted to buy everything! Why the reason for four stars and not five? As my friend and I walked in we were greeted, but the customer service stopped there. The girl that was working stood behind the cash register and greeted. It would have been great if she was more engaging with customers as they walked through the door. I probably would have bought more if she would have talked me up a little bit. I went in to look around and was ignored until a salesgirl decided to follow me around (no greeting) and stare at me while I browsed. When she looked at me blankly each time I turned around to see if she would decide to finally greet me... that was the icing on this snotty cupcake. Those two CP Shades shirts I wanted to buy ($160/each?)... um, I can get them on line. Cherry on the icing on the snotty cupcake was watching the salesgirl greet and simper around behind older waspy couples (wives + their $ bag husbands) while ignoring me. Bliss is my favorite clothing boutique in Portsmouth NH. They carry contemporary designer clothing. What is most wonderful about this boutique is the relational care. The staff keeps you in mind and offers helpful style advice. Sometimes I just go in to say hello to the staff! Please stop in. They have a wonderful inventory of beautiful clothing! read more

I am a local resident who likes supporting local businesses. I have tried numerous times for 6 years to shop in this store. I like the clothing and selection at this store even though the price point is higher than other local boutiques. But, the staff are so incredibly rude and not helpful. I decided to give the store one more chance today since it's Small Business Saturday. I walked in with a friend and received no greeting despite being the only customers in the store. I had to walk back outside and read the sale information on the door since neither of the workers bothered to jump in and divulge that information even though my friend and I were openly discussing whether or not there was a sale. I was in the store for 20 minutes with no offer of help or acknowledgment of any kind. My wish is that the owner would hire a worthy staff as many local residents have the same complaint as me. Great items in the store, but terrible staff! I did try on $500 worth of cute clothes today. Then I promptly came home and ordered them online. After 6 years of trying, I am DONE with this store! read more

I absolutely loved this place! Cutest boutique in Portsmouth. I was in town for a day trip and stopped by.. A girl approached me and she helped me picked out some jeans that fit me perfect and a pair of Frye boots for my baby girl to match my own! I loved her, but didn't get name! The prices are all relative and seems to be even a bit lower than the boutiques out in Boston. And the options were better too! Can't wait to go back.. And I heard they have a baby boutique too! read more

Visiting Portsmouth for the weekend and stopped in this shop. Customer service was great. Upon entering I was greeted by both women very warmly. LOVE their selection and will be back next time I visit. Got some help picking between two shirts from the staff also, so that was nice. A must when visiting the city. read more

I had to go back onto YELP and follow up with another review and it is as bad as the last one if not worse. Again went in the day after Thanksgiving to spend another $300.00 on a sweater and also purchased a few small things, leggings etc and the staff there was as bad if not worse than my last visits, which honestly didn't think was possible. The assistant manager/manager was sitting behind the counter eating. She is always rude when I go in the store. The worst was a sales person that was so annoyed with me that I was unfolding the sweaters to look at them. I don't think that it is a bad thing when you are going to spend anywhere between $200-$500 on a sweater that you want to open it up and look at it. She was so rude. There was one other sales person in the store that was nice, nothing over the top but at least she was cordial. So for this store it would be considered nice. As always when I am in the store there are never a lot of people in the store (even on Black Friday!) and the ones that I see come in are treated the same way and they usually walk out with out a bag in their hand...I called and left a message for the manager at the Portland Maine store and never received a call back. Last year when I called and spoke with the manager after a bad experience she said sorry and that was about it. The owners of Bliss have to be aware of this and so sad they don't hire friendly staff to service their customers. I have to finally learn my lesson and never walk in this store again. I have not experienced the rudeness the other review stated. I love shopping at Bliss. The staff has literally spent an hour with me to find me the right pair of jeans for my body. I have purchased jeans, tops, shoes and bags from the store. Visit each time I'm in town. Unique clothes and I get many compliments on them! read more

Great trendy clothes and gorgeous chan luu scarves. I have bought 2 of them so far. Customer service is great at this location. There was a wonderfully pleasant woman who waited on me. Actually her personal attention and friendly upbeat attitude actually made me want to buy more things there! I highly recommend this shop. If you like unique, trendy items, you will love this store. If you want overpriced clothing with super rude store staff, you have found the spot. Young women working at this store are awful- rude, curt, and so unfriendly. Plus, the items and prices in this sites are ridiculous. This is historic Portsmouth NH, not Manhattan. I really do not know how this store makes any sense. It would be one thing if the staff was extremely friendly and helpful to justify some of the high priced items- but this is certainly not the case. If you shop at the store it's like you're walking into a set of "mean girls." I will never return! read more

I had a really bad experience at this store and will never shop there again. I bought a very expensive cashmere sweater ($300+) expecting it to be high quality at that price point. It began pilling after I wore it only once. Pretty much what you'd expect from something you got at TJ Maxx for $30! I spoke to the store manager who was very nice but would not take it back and just told me this was what cashmere did. Um... yeah, cheap cashmere! I called the store owner in Portland who did not return my two phone calls. Pretty unprofessional for a business owner. The kicker is I've been told by a couple of clothing sales reps and store owners that stores can return defective or unacceptable items to the manufacturer at no cost (esp. high end brands). Very disappointed with my whole experience at this store and with the owner! read more
