This is a gorgeous state park but I would not recommend this park to go camping at if you're using a tent site- I cannot comment on the rv side. Now with Covid and summer plans being cancelled we figured we'd do something fun as a family and finally go camping since my boys have been begging to go camping for awhile. I checked multiple Pinterest pages on the must-haves for camping, bought a tent from Costco ( even made sure to practice setting it up and taking it down before our trip), got our fishing license and bought some fishing gear for the kids oh and let me not forget my kids were ok with sleeping bags but I also invested in a wait mattress for myself because sleeping on the ground just sounds painful. Pros- -So like I said the camp ground was gorgeous, we had the most amazing view our entire time here. - it was off the beaten path and not too packed. - the campgrounds were kept up and extremely clean. - there was also a roped off area for beginning swimmers. - they offered showers ( though make sure you bring quarters) - designated trash areas as well, and like I said these grounds were really kept up so there was really no trash on the floors. Cons- - bathrooms... ok I probably sound like a snob but the last time I went camping it seemed bathrooms were just a little more enjoyable. Here they literally have unisex stalls with a toilet. And it wasn't just any toilet but more so like a well or a outhouse with peoples pee and poop just festering in it all day til it's cleaned out... so gross and no sink in the bathroom or soap. Thankfully I read up and brought some hand soap - it's extremely windy... like we just moved back to Washington a year ago from Georgia so I felt we definitely had some ptsd from the winds ripping through the campground the last night... all night. It sounded like tornado winds. I couldn't sleep and our last night I really thought our tent would fall down before the night was over. - the lake though beautiful it was ice cold! Make sure to bring life vest because even in the summer heat eastern Washington provides this lake can freeze even a seasoned swimmer - but i think the worst part was the walk! So I haven't went camping since Highschool and I just remember us parking at the campsite and unloading... well that's not the case here. Now they do provide carts for your stuff however you have to park half a mile away and then walk and walk some more. It's hot, windy and for first time campers here it's not well directed of where to walk to for the campsite. However, once you get to the campsite the numbers are marked on the fence. Also, just note to self if this is your first time camping pick a campsite with a smaller number- you'll walk less. This is a fun day trip but I don't think I'd come back to camp. read more

The Columbia River near Daroga State Park is prime water for paddleboarding. It seems to be the smoothest section of the river from Wenatchee to Chelan with public access. There were a lot of good sections of the river along Highway 97 for any sort of paddle sports. Given this opportunity - my eyes are always on the lookout for prime paddle water - it was surprising to see how few people were on the river. Not only would it be a great river for paddling in an individual area, but it would be a great river to canoe down. In comparison to the white-water rapids in most WA mountain rivers, the Columbia River is smooth. In addition to this, there are magnificent views of the eastern side of the Cascade Mountains. I could certainly see myself paddling the river in chunks, biking back to my car after finishing for the day. There would have to be dedicated planning for a project like this because most of this shoreline is private property, both houses and farms. When I remained still in the middle of the river, I could barely notice the slight movement of water downstream. It was so subtle that I had to focus to sense any current. Normally, on a beautiful, still weekend day, speedboats are the main threat to a relaxing paddle. The easy, although disciplined, way around this is by paddling the lake in the early morning hours before boaters are out and churning up the water. There was only one other small outboard boat, barely making any wake, when I was on the river. I'm not sure if there were any rules limiting speedboats in the area, but I certainly took advantage of the moment. read more

Nice park. Clean. The sprinkler system is a bit off so you get wet. Downfall is the power lines and the swimming area is too small without much water flow so it was filled with duck/goose poop. Lots and lots of poop. read more

THE WIND IS REAL. I saw other posts talking about windy conditions, and I brushed it off as just bad luck with the weather (I've been camping all of my life, and have spent many a night in rainy conditions when I thought it'd be sunny and clear). But do not underestimate the winds. I'm guessing the location is just one of those perfect natural wind tunnels. Now, the park itself is gorgeous, hence still the 3 stars. If you're hardier than me, and don't mind the wind, you'll be in for a great stay. Very well-kept grounds (regular irrigation times are posted throughout), the facilities are convenient and clean (they have pay showers, if you're the type to shower when you're camping), the beach was a casual walk from the campsites, and there's a small playground for your kids, and the view--the view was breathtaking, especially sitting right on the "island" Also, as others have mentioned, they have a ranger driving a small truck by (every couple of hours?) with bags of ice and firewood for purchase (at a reasonable price for a campsite). And they provide good-sized wheelbarrows for transporting your gear from the parking lot to your site, which, as others have mentioned, is a decent hike, but not unbearable (I got my steps in!). But the wind. Do not underestimate it. We arrived at around 6pm, got our gear to our site, and failed in our attempts to pitch our tent. Nevermind the fact that the winds made starting a fire impossible (other campers were trying without success, others still turned to their camp stoves for their grilling). We didn't bring a camp stove, intending to do all of our grilling on the grill/fire pit. So in addition to not getting our tent up, we couldn't grill up our intended feast. 8:30pm, we packed up and left. Others were sticking it out, and others still were showing up as we were leaving, but the wind isn't for me. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

If you and the family are looking for a chance to swim in the Columbia River then this park should be considered. The grounds are very well maintained in terms of being cut, no weeds, plenty of mature shade trees to set up a picnic or BBQ underneath. No signs of trash or plastic bottles, very clean throughout the park. Toilet facilities are well maintained with respect to cleanliness, well ventilated (hardly no odors with the summer heat), no signs of vandalism and spacious for large crowds if it is crowded (we never seen it too crowded, park is always comfortable). Park staff was seen on site cleaning the facilities during the day. Parking area to swimming beach was a reasonable distance to bring beach toys or the ice-packed cooler to set up for a day for swimming. Stunning views of the river and foothills to get your Biophillia on! Would have given it a higher rating if it were not one issue, that is the large quantities of water foul droppings on the beach (believe it is Goose). So it can can be a little concerning with small children but we tried an area that appeared to have not as much but did have to tidy up the area to make us as parents feel safe and that no kid ended up in it. Water is cool and refreshing, not to many rocks or uneven underwater surfaces so it was pleasant to be in the water. There are electrical power lines over the parking area that do give off a sound but not in the park area so did not impact this rating, just an FYI. Awesome park to have a nice day trip with the family. We will be going back. read more

Meghan H's expectations of a state park seem unrealistic. My family loved this place. Yep, we saw some goose poop, yep, the place is huge. But... There are many places to swim (not just the designated ones), the entire park was very well maintained, the grass was green and water was clean! The restrooms were AMAZING for a park, and the trails were groomed and safe. The park even provides a huge wheelbarrow/tote for carrying camping/picnic stuff from the parking area. Very beautiful and fun place! read more

We camped here in late June with the kids. We camped in the walk in sites. it was a long haul to and from the car with all of our gear, about a half mile each way. Not too bad, but it was 90 degrees on the day we arrived. It was worth it though, because there is no car traffic in the walk in sites. It was very windy 2 of the 3 nights we stayed. One night so bad we couldn't even light a campfire because sparks were flying and with the dry conditions we were concerned about starting a brush fire. The park rangers came through to deliver ice and firewood twice a day. Each site has a designated tent site that is on sand, bordered on two sides by a fence. There was a swimming area, but the entire beach was covered in geese droppings and was pretty gross. read more

The park is very well maintained and we THEE BEST spot with the most amazing view in all of the full hookup sites (#28). The beach/swimming area was COVERED in goose poop, which was too bad because the beach area was really nice. We ended up cutting our trip short because the wind kicked up really bad and we were in a pop up trailer and it would have made for a really long night to try and sleep. This is a perfect park for those who cannot get into the Lake Chelan park because it fills up too fast. It was only a 25 minute drive to downtown Chelan to spend the day on the water. read more

The location was beautiful and the park itself was very well kept and clean. However here were some issues I found to be annoying. First, you have to hike literally a quarter mile from the parking lot to the sites. Also, they don't allow vehicles to help unload equipment at the site. The park rangers and maintenance crew will drive past families struggling to carry all their gear in little wheelbarrows the park provides to move camping equipment to the site. Extremely inconvenient. There are no dumpsters at the sites, so you have to hike all your trash back 1/4 mike to the parking lot dumpsters. Also the park rangers were not helpful and rude. One night the winds were over 20mph and we were hiking to our spot with air mattresses. The wind was so strong it lifted my 205lb friend off the ground and launched his mattress in he lake. We decided to drive our truck down to the site with the mattresses because it simply wasn't safe to carry them with the wind. (Common sense). The park rangers blocked us in our site with their lights on causing a big ordeal for driving down to the site with the air mattresses. They gave my friend $175 ticket for it. Very unprofessional and unreasonable. Won't return. read more
