I had a dreaded root canal procedure at Marin Endodontics this morning, by Dr. Alan Chee and his assistant Letitia. I'm not sure I've ever had one or just heard horror stories about the procedure over the years. Much to my surprise, it was quick and painless. I was able to get an appointment quickly. Dr. Chee explained everything prior to the procedure and let me know what he was doing and how far along we were as the procedure progressed. He checked in constantly, making sure I was comfortable and asking if I needed a break. Once I was numb, I never felt a thing. While all reviews (including Yelp) should be taken with a cup of salt, please consider this review of Marin Endodontics and Dr. Chee with the utmost confidence, since I had not one but TWO root canals (Dec 2021 and Feb 2020) with Dr. Chee. Super nervous, total wuss about tooth pain, hate shots - so not looking forward to this at all. To my surprise, my first root canal went without a hitch, I had NO pain during the procedure, and Dr. Chee's "chair side" manner was friendly, calming and informative. Fast forward a few months, for root canal #2. This one was more difficult and time-consuming because of the tooth's location - the farthest one in the back on the left. How was the procedure? I kid you not. I FELL ASLEEP during the procedure. You know how your eyes are closed, and you're relaxed (it helps that they prop your mouth open with a solid marshmallow thingy and give you sunglasses against the bright lamp) and then you realize that you don't remember the past few minutes? Yep, that was me. Dr. Chee is so professional, caring and just plain great. I sincerely hope I never have to see him again, but if you need a root canal done, go see Dr. Chee! read more

Be careful of this Endodontic service provider. They scheduled me based on my dentist's referral. I met with them for a consultation. I completed the initial paperwork and provided my Delta Dental insurance card. When I came for the root canal appointment, they calmly "reminded" me (I had not been informed prior) that I would need to pay them $2550 before I left my appointment after my root canal. I was stunned. I asked - "What about my insurance provider - Delta Dental?" They calmly (again) advised me that I pay them the $2550 and then go to my insurance company to get reimbursement. After 10 minutes of prying and questioning wherein they threw curve balls such as "yeah, Delta changed a couple years ago" they finally admitted that they are not an 'in-network' provider for Delta. NEVER did they provide me with that pretty important detail, and actually expected me to pay them their non-negotiated cost and attempt to get Delta to reimburse based on their exaggerated costs, even though they had accepted a copy of my insurance card when I first met with them. Not a good idea and will never work. They then pivoted with things like "Didn't anyone tell you that you would need to pay today?' Uh, no. "Well didn't anyone tell you that we are out of network for Delta?" Uh, no...I mean yes, you are now. They allowed me to cancel the procedure that day, which was courteous of them. I contacted Delta Dental - who were thankful that I did not follow this trap of a process, as it would have cost me well over $1500 out of pocket. Look folks, Marin Endodontics has nice people at their front desk, however they have been well trained at the hoodwinked strategy for out of network patients/victims. Do not rely on the medical provider for coverage verification- check with your insurance carrier. read more

Dr Allan Chee is amazing! Did a root canal that accommodated my mobility issues. Beautiful treatment room overlooking an ancient oak. Chair situated so that you can see the tree at all times. Dr Chee is informative, constantly checking your welfare and highly skilled. I was comfortable throughput the procedure and he managed potential pain well. Applied an i e pack when I got home and have little swelling. Staying ahead of possible pain with ibuprofen and have the slightest discomfort. All in all a decent experience. The staff is friendly and helpful. Especially Cat who assisted Dr Chee. If you have to have a root canal they make it a decent experience. Plenty of parking. Modern, clean, well equipped location. I was so relieved and thankful for my recent experience having a root canal at this office. Dr. Alan Chee was so reassuring and understanding of my fear. I'm terrified of dental work as a result of being drilled on as a child with no novocaine. I was given nitrous oxide and plenty of novocaine and I "woke up" later with the job done. I had no pain afterwards, and Dr. Chee had to drill thru a cap on the molar tooth to perform the root canal. I won't ever fear a dental procedure again if I can have Dr. Chee be the dentist. Also, the staff was wonderful in working out a payment plan for me as Delta Dental will partially reimburse at some point. I give this office an absolutely stellar rating. read more

Root Canals are never fun. During a pandemic it's terrifying. This is the only office I found open in Marin. They got me in quick, we're SUPER careful, cleaning everything before and after use, disinfectant, hand sanitizer, gloves available everywhere. Dr. Dudum and Cat were very professional, very nice, made me feel comfortable about the procedure and took every precaution to protect me and themselves from Covid-19. Last year or so I was referred to Marin Endodontics by my dentist. It was an emergency and they got me in right away--which was great. Dr. Dudum did a root canal and all went well. Based on this, I would give them 5 stars. More recently, however, I started having shooting pain in the area near the root canal. I called the office and went in for a check. Dr. D sprayed that cold "stuff" on the area and it pained me greatly. He told me most likely I'd need a root canal in a couple of months. Well the pain stopped a few days later and it hasn't come back--and it's been almost a year now. I'm very glad I did not get an unnecessary root canal. Moral of the story: Don't always do what a medical professional tells you to do. read more

I want to start off by saying this: I am afraid of dental visits. I had a very poor experience with Petaluma/Rohnert Park Health Center (more than once) that has left me with what is sometimes crippling anxiety towards going to the dentist. I recently broke my upper molar and found out I needed a root canal. So that immediately made me worry and start fearing the day I had to go in to have it done. Well, I just had a root canal done by Dr. Chee and I am absolutely thrilled and relieved to say it was a completely PAINLESS process. From the initial consultation, to the numbing injections, to the actual root canal procedure, Dr. Chee treated me with total respect and kindness and was patient with me and my nervousness. One of the most stressful parts of going to the dentist for me are the injections, which always hurt a lot! And then of course the anxiety of potentially not getting numb enough and having to feel the work the doctor is doing in my mouth (which has happened to me). The way that Dr. Chee did the injections was unlike I've ever had done before. I say this because I did not feel them! Not even a little bit. I was absolutely amazed by his skill. I did not think it was possible to get injections in my mouth and not have it hurt. And not only were the injections smooth and painless, the entire process felt like nothing. I was as relaxed as I've ever been at a dental office. He explained everything he was doing clearly and concisely. I was referred to Dr. Dudum, by Dr. Rist, when it was evident I needed a root canal, Daryl Dudum made a quick assessment of my situation, was initially billed a consultation fee of around $184, and then a week and a half later another $1,600 for the root canal. He was efficient and it was painless, I was in and out of the office in less than 40 minutes. Beautiful office, pleasant, attractive staff, although expensive, a great experience! Dr. Dadvand is an absolute angel who relieved my severe dental pain! She validated my frustrations, genuinely sympathized with my agony, checked up on me with follow-up texts, and sensing my relief even gave me a hug on the way out. I honestly cannot thank Dr. Dadvand enough. If all endodontists were like her, dental fears would not exist! FYI: I live in Portland, but after a painful month of trying to schedule a root canal with my dentist (who only offered me antibiotics and a dismissive pep talk: "I find that a little pain helps me concentrate"), I visited my sister in Novato, CA. Well, I was sent upstairs by my family dentist for a literal 10 minute consult. Dr. Chee asked a few questions, and we together within 10 minutes the tooth had to be extracted! Yes, 10 minutes, or even less!! The bill, $250.00 roughly, put my insurance into play, and ended up with a $97.00 bill. My husband is a General Surgeon and stated it would be a professional discount situation, and literally nothing should be paid by the patient. In calling the staff, I received shabby treatment, wrote two emails, and was informed pay this ;that was what the famous Dr. Chee requires. I paid it, but let me tell you, that is robbery. I guess Dr. Chee and his group is not making payroll these days, and needs that $97.00 more than I do! Good luck with this professional "service," I would not recommend them to my dog. Five stars to a place that I never want to return to. This is a rare and puzzling case indeed. Actually, it just involves a sometimes necessary evil: a root canal! Not sure if that exclamation mark is appropriate, but I want you to pay attention if you're deliberating between endodontists. Dr. Dudum and his staff are all wonderful, from the receptionist, the assistant, and the good doctor himself. I felt well taken care of and confident that this is the best place possible to get the drill. I was well-informed of the cost, what was going to happen, and how to care for the tooth post-root canal. The doctor himself even phoned a few days after the procedure, which was an appreciated touch. As you're tilted back in the dental chair you have a view of a towering tree outside, which coupled with a Pandora station of your choosing, creates a nice distraction from what's going on in your mouth. I absolutely do not want to step foot here again, but if need be, I would not hesitate to entrust my health to this office. read more

I want everyone to know how great Dr. Dadvand is. I have had a couple of root canals and by far this was my best experience. Not just because she fixed my tooth but she is te whole package. Dr. Dadvand took extra care to make sure that I was comfortable and answered all of my questions before even starting the procedure. One thing that impressed me was her attention to detail and how patiently she worked on my tooth. It was a back molar and probably the most difficult tooth to work on. She made sure that I was comfortable in the chair. Kept asking how to was doing and if I was experiencing any pain. She really made sure that I was numbed up so I did not feel any pain. I was impressed with her attention to detail and how she treated me as a patient I really appreciated her concern for how I was doing. I have had plenty of experience with doctors and dentists and I put dr Dadvand at the top of the list for professionalism, how she treat me as a person and how well she took care of my bad tooth. 10 our of 10 for sure. Dr. Dudum is amazing! I went in to his office with an emergency broken molar and I was in a ton of pain! He quickly evaluated my situation and then he started his work. It was my first root canal and I was a little apprehensive. Minutes into the root canal, I knew I was in good hands. Getting a root canal is never fun, no matter how you slice it, just not something thats "fun" to do. However, my visit to see Dr. Dudum was a great experience. I was nervous going in and he quickly put me at ease and was very kind and extremely professional. My situation was unique as my nerve was shaped in a very unnatural way. It was no problem for Dr. Dudum as he had me in and out in about 45 minutes or so. The office is very clean, they have modern top-notch tools and the staff is amazing. Not to mention, his prices are very reasonable and was not at all surprised at my bill as Dr. Dudum and his staff walked me through expected costs BEFORE my procedure. I don't recommend ever getting a root canal just for fun but if you are going to get one, no questions asked, see Dr. Dudum. My tooth fractured and my general dentist recommended Dr. Dudum DDS to fill in a root canal. My general dentist would then cap the tooth. Dr. Dudum numbed the area and said he could not do the root canal because the area was too decayed and I would be back within a year with problems. This diagnosis seemed honest. Imagine my shock, however, when I received the bill--$400 for letting me know he could do nothing. My visit was considered an "emergency visit," something I was not told in advance. I was not in pain, the visit was 2 1/2 days after I saw my general dentist, and I had no idea I would be considered a more expensive "emergency." read more

I cannot express enough how grateful I am to Marin Endodontics- Karen, Lettie, the assistants, Dr. Chee, and Dr. Rishwain. I had emergency breakthrough 10/10 pain on two of my teeth and the whole team couldn't be nicer or more careful in assessing my needs to get my teeth fixed. Not only is this team caring and communicating in every single thing they do, but they are also timely. When a patient is experiencing breakthrough pain of 10/10, timing of resolution is extremely important. I would also like to comment that I don't know any other endodontist/dentist that has an on-call/after hours service. I originally went to see Dr.Chee for a retreatment of a 10 year old root canal that was infected. Low and behold the tooth next to it was also infected and needing a root canal. Over the weekend I was in excruciating, debilitating pain, so I called the office and reached the on-call service where then Dr. Rishwain called me within 2 minutes! He was so thorough at explaining what was happening, once I explained my symptoms and he provided me with a treatment plan until I could be seen again on Monday for a root canal. Tooth pain/ dental work has been an anxiety/fear ridden experience for my life and all these words above can't begin to describe my gratefulness at the care and attention from this team. They work together cohesively, they are nice to each other and to patients. I want to mention this also because it effects patient experience, when the staff get along or don't get along. There are a lot of doctors that are not gentle with their assistants and front desk staff, but from what I saw at Marin Endodontics, the doctors are very great at communicating in a clear/direct but also kind manner to their staff.
