Visited on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. The location has been here for some time. It's pretty crowded inside and it's a little harrowing to get in/out on VB Blvd's race track. Be aware there's utilization of every space and the aisles are narrow. I found the workers to be very nice and helpful. There was a good selection of the goodies I tend to look for second hand, like dishes and clothes, since they're so easily washed and re-homed. Stock was constantly being put out. I saw a little carryon suitcase I was interested in, but there was no tag on it. Plus size section was kind of meager but had I needed house things like dishes and utensils, I would of been stoked! Brought my kids in to do some shopping, boys shirts are 10$, kid liked a pair that were 100$ hahaha. Another pair of shoes from temu that are 15$ new cost 25$. Youngest brought me a broken toy car that was 9.99$ like who the hell is pricing things here? This is a donation center. My first and last time going here. Just like the one on Centreville turnpike, this DAV has a pretty good selection. They dont have as much furniture as the other DAV, but they have a great amount of toys, clothes, and luggage. My kids got a toy that usually sells for $61, and got it for $9! That was a great find. They also have shopping carts, which is nice for a mom like me with multiple children and not enough hands lol. Your typical thrift store. The staff is friendly and helpful, the store is clean and organized, prices are clearly marked, clothing is sorted on racks according to type and size. The private parking lot is of adequate size for the business and appears well maintained and free of debris. Not all thrift stores offer dressing rooms so I appreciate that this one has them. I know the recycled clothes are very inexpensive and the money goes for a good cause (supporting disabled American military veterans) but it's still nice to be able to try on a garment or two to make sure they fit before purchasing them. Like most thrift stores, sometimes you can find great bargains on items you want and other times you just can't find anything of interest. There is always a good selection of items like clothing and accessories, shoes, dishes, flatware, toys, etc... It's more hit or miss if you're shopping household goods, small appliances, electronics, power tools, furniture, etc... This DAV Thrift Store location is among the better local thrift stores. If you have a military ID be sure to check out their Military Appreciation Day on the 15th of every month and get a generous discount. read more

Overall, it's a decent thrift store. I'd say it's fairly well organized. Slightly cramped though. If you're using a cart, good luck squeezing through the aisles if another has a cart. A number of items were oddly overpriced but it looks like they do markdown frequently. For example, many general women's dresses (ie not formal dresses) would start at $12+ but they eventually would be marked down to the $6-8 as I'd expect at a thrift store. The checkout area had small counters as well, which made it difficult to place items. It took a hot minute for someone to check me out. There was one woman at the luxury items counter but she wasn't checking out people. She saw me waiting for about 5-10mins but never called anyone to come help. When a staff member did show, they were very pleasant. They didn't have a large quantity of nicer brands and I felt like one really did have to check quality of the items because they seemed damaged. But I did get some nice finds there and overall my experience was average for a thrifting experience. I plan on going again in the future. read more

This DAV is ROUGH. The location, parking lot, employees, ROUGH. You might wait forever at the checkout, if the employees ever show up. You'll spend a good portion of your time there listening to the employees yelling codes at each other over her announcement system. Clothes are okay, prices are a little steep. $15 for a t shirt is insane. When card readers go down (which is often apparently) the manager has nothing to say to customers stuck in line besides they can't do anything but check the modem. Asked me to go to the ATM and come back, I said I was going to do so. I came back in and they assumed I wasn't going to come back for some reason? No apologies were given for the inconvenience until after money was in the cashiers hand. Very unfortunate how this situation gets handled and as a frequent customer it's disappointing to know I won't be returning. read more

This organization has become nothing but money hungry. I question the fact of how much actually goes to the DAV and how much goes into their own pockets. They forget that people donate everything they sell for profit. A few weeks ago I had picked up a small bag with tiny ceramic eggs. There was probably about four or five in the bag, the sales associate without thinking, slammed the bag on the counter, and a few of them broke. I simply said, let me take the broken ones out and I'll take the rest if you give me a discount on them . She said absolutely. She proceeded, but had to call a manager to void the item off and to re-ring it. The woman came over and said no I cannot purchase it. It needs to go to the back for reevaluation and re-pricing. I looked at her and said; Do you realize people donate to you but she just walked away. Their prices are ridiculous as they think they are a High End Dept. Store. Cameras all over the place. Absolutely disgusting. The stores could not exist if people did not donate. Please folks find another place to go. I will no longer support the DAV. This is my favorite thrift store. I remember going here years back, and they'd have a great stock of road bikes! Not recently.. :( I mainly go here for shoes, blouses, belts, and dresses now. They have a good turnover rate. I come here around once every week or so, and there's always new stuff. I almost always end up buying something when I come here, whether it's some tubberware for screenprinting, books to strip, a pair of shoes I'll never wear, or props for art. It's been around for over 20 years and there are multiple locations in Hampton Roads. 7 currently. In fact in 2015 they are opening a new location in Battlefield area. I was in Sam's Club looking at a pea-coat and a woman about 80-years-of-age complements me on the coat. She then tells me about this place that she likes to shop, the DAV-I had never heard of it and she had to tell me about Disabled American Veterans Thrift. Her entire outfit was from there and she pointed to each item of clothing-quoting the price as she went along. $1, $2, $3. I decided I for sure I needed to check this place out. When you enter registers and shopping carts are to the right as well as a row of about 4 fitting rooms. To the immediate left is the jewelry counter. Men's clothing is along the left side of the store along with electronics. Furniture is in the back. There are two rows of dresses: one side is small-med-etc. The other side is sized numerically. I've been here twice, each time leaving with one item. DAV is worth a visit. read more

Hmph. DAV Thrift has some amazing things I never knew I needed, but the staff is a big eye roll. I found some vintage digs that were reasonably priced enough and headed to check out when two pictures caught my eye. I've got a weak spot for all things cheeky so a huge portrait of a vampy woman and a picture of Greta Garbo were just too much of a temptation. The $35 and $50 price tags sent me onto sticker shock, so I asked a lady if the prices might be negotiable.Aren't thrift stores supposed to be thrifty? Unfortunately, she said that she couldn't see faces right now and could only read prices and they weren't changing. I'm not sure what that meant, but whatever she was on had quite the grumpy affect. Used to love going to this store. This past weekend's visit was a nightmare. The employees were ALL rude (every single one). The fitting rooms still were not open nor were the restrooms. We tried to purchase two matching candle holders: one had $1.98 on it and the other had $2.98. They argued for almost 5 minutes over the fact that they should both be the same price. They were non-negotiable over a 4 shelf plastic rack with mildew that was way overpriced. The ONLY good thing was that there were a lot of clothing that had been marked down from their usual high prices. I can get new clothes on clearance at Wal-mart or Cato for less than their regular prices. The books are way overpriced as well. Wish I could give it less than 1 star. First, I like the DAV and Salvation Army over the Goodwill because I believe they are supporting good causes and a high percentage of their profits go towards that end. However, this location had me a little frazzled. The aisles are pretty tight and the day I went there, it was super busy. The shelves were just overflowing with stuff and you couldn't pull something off a shelf without something else falling over. I felt like people around me were rushing me through the aisles. Full shelves were just disaster areas where it looked like a yard sale bomb went off. I enjoy looking for good items, but this place was just a little too crazy for me to manage. The prices seemed fair but on the high side for some items. Also, they usually have a day where they have a percentage off for military. I am not certain about this location, but at others it is 20% off on the 15th. What gets me is the number of people that try to get the discount but don't have a military or retiree ID. I think the fact that they are trying to scam is what disgusts me the most. Doubt that I would come back here but it would only be to see if they clean it up and organized it better. read more

So much fun when I come here! I'm giggling to myself because I just read Xerxes' review and my friend and I were falling out laughing after listening to the announcement we heard in the store. First of all, the fellow who made the announcement had made several errors... forgive me for laughing, but it was hilarious. The announcement was long and he kept repeating himself reminding parents to not allow their children to run free in the store or allow their children to be unsupervised or allow their children to play in the store for the safety of your children and the safety of everyone else in the store and so on. Priceless! :-D Now, I am a proud thrift store hopper. I have no shame in my game and the Thrift Store gods were generous to myself and my shopping buddy on this day. We found so much stuff for so little! My buddy was able to find some great home decor items and baskets in wonderful condition. My daughter found a hilarious tee in the men's section that she plans to use as a sleep shirt. I was able to locate some beautiful scarves and a gorgeous wedding gown. The wedding gown is NOT for me. I phoned a friend who was looking for something similar to that style. We had a great time here! My suggestion: Keep more lines open to cut down on wait time. read more

Kudos for their announcement on the intercom telling some silly ass parents to put their kid on a leash. Yeah, running around in a place where a sneeze can knock down aisles of items barely balanced can be bad. Thanks to the young lady who rang me up in a different aisle after I had to watch this Filipino lady beg for a military idea from anyone walking for a 20% discount on shit that you're buying for 1/10 the price at anywhere else. I like this thrift store, however it can be a hit or miss when it comes to finding things. I found a piece of furniture, a wood night stand by Dixie for $14 bucks, I figured I'd take up on a refurbishing project. I took the old brown ugly cabinet, sanded it down, and painted it a rustic turquoise color. It's a great place to get cheap furniture to refurbish and re-do if you are really into that stuff. Jewelry can be a hit or miss too. some days you will see really great finds, and some days can be lame. read more

Thanks to another yelper I visited this thrift store - good stuff. I judge thrift stores by two categories - price and inventory. Although I was a bit shocked by the first few prices I saw (leather jacket and a fur shawl each for $75) I still gave this store a chance...glad I did. I scored an awesome pair of boots in excellent condition for $7. While the prices are higher than the prices across the street at salvation army the goods are better quality. This is one of those spots that you will most likely find a small treasure every time. They had cool hats, a few designer bags behind the counter, some dresses, and a good selection of shoes. This is definitely a clothing thrift store - household items and furniture are scarce. read more

My favorite Virginia Beach Thrift Store! It can be very busy in here at times, and that always gives me anxiety. It's hard to get through the aisles to look at things sometimes so you just have to be patient. Other than that I have loved this thrift store for years and don't feel their prices are bad at all. Compared to some of the other thrift stores around here you wonder who is pricing stuff, but I feel the DAV is very reasonable but sometimes there is a miss-price on stuff but it's not the whole store. I have never had a problem with the employee's either so I don't know what that's about and I've never smelled cat pee either... I'm not really one for thrift stores but here I make an exception. This place is often great for picking up spare computer parts on the cheap. For example one time I found three 80 GB hard drives for here for $5 a piece. That was a steal. Another time I picked up a brand new Logitech wireless keyboard and it's broadcast station for a couple of dollars. You're not going to find those types of deals every time you walk in the door, but if you check in on them regularly you're bound to find something in short order. Overpriced, overpriced, overpriced! In only one word that's the best way to describe this thrift store. Many of the items weren't in good shape at all, a lot of wear and tear. I'm going to have to agree with something I read, just give the items directly to the Vets who need them. Honestly, that makes more sense at this point. I don't see this thrift store staying around much longer with these ridiculous prices. I felt like the store had a lot of potential but I am very disappointed in the workers. We came in at 7:30 and when we were looking around very quickly because we knew they closed at 8; however, when we asked for a dressing room at 7:35 she yelled no and said the dressing rooms are closed, reminded us that they close at 8, and told us to go to the register. That is very rude. The workers every 5 minutes told us to head to the register and that they will not be accepting any purchases at 8. I felt very rushed and did not enjoy my shopping experience. This is one my favorite thrift stores. They have more electronics, personal care needs, and clothes that I need. I remember back in the day the sold a 200 In One lab kit for a couple of dollars, and it worked great. I was able to rebuild my electronic projects. Also last time I was there I found me one of those graphing calculators for engineering and science. They sell various items there at reasonable prices, and also you have to try to go there as often to discover new things that you never knew existed. It's almost like those surplus stores. read more
