This is only the second time that I've had David tune my piano, but he is excellent in every respect. I was out of the country for a few years, and my piano needed tuning badly. I called him on Monday, and he was out on Wednesday. Punctual, courteous, and professional, he spent two hours tuning my Mason & Hamlin grand. Very detail oriented, and I could hear a little vacuum going at the end of the session. His charge for tuning was incredibly fair for two hours work ($120), and my piano's sound is fantastic. I called Dave on a Sunday afternoon around 2 o'clock in the afternoon. I live in Lincoln Park and long story short, my piano was tuned beautifully and singing by 6! I had never met Dave before, but found him via about 60 positive reviews on Angie's List. He was punctual, polite, and after the tuning part of the appointment, conversational. While working he noticed that a shared string in the higher register was missing, and was able to remove the hammers, install a new string, and get it in working order lickity-split. Even though it was something small that I would never have noticed, he was thorough enough to isolate and solve the problem when it presented itself. When the appointment was coming to a close he even whipped out a small vacuum cleaner and got the dust out of the bottom of the cabinet. Bottom line, Dave was a consummate professional, who drove into the city on short notice on a SUNDAY, and really saved the day for me, as I will be entertaining later this evening. Dave just finished tuning our piano for the 4th time. He spent 90 minutes and charged $100. He does impeccable work, is timely and professional. He also helped me with evaluating used pianos when we were in the market 5 years ago. When he last tuned our piano two years ago our 5 year old lost a pencil inside the piano (doing "theory work") a week after he tuned the piano. When I called to ask assistance in how to get the pencil out, he came over and removed the pencil without charging us. He will be our tuner for as long as he is in business! read more

Dave Lukitsch has serviced and tuned my 20-year-old, 7-foot grand piano, since 2003. I typically call him to tune it at least once a year, as it falls out of tune every spring/summer, when moisture levels rise and it sounds just abominable, until Dave arrives and makes it sing right on key. I called Dave for a price quote and got a very unenthusiastic person on the other line. You would think you would be a little more excited to get a prospective customer. I asked for his price quote which was a little less than others I have called. I then asked about replacing a broken string on my piano. He quoted me the most ridiculous price for replacing this string after trying to convince me I don't really need to replace it. Who does that?! After he finally gave me the price quote for my string I asked him if he offered piano moving services. He asked where it was going to so I told him. He then asked if it was already at my house... Um, what? I just told you it's coming to my house... So no. He then told me if I can't find anyone else to move my piano he would move it. So he didn't even quote me a price for that service. The whole conversation was filled with "um"s and "well"s... Very un-confident. Needless to say, I won't be using his services. If he's that lazy and unenthusiastic about a quote then what kind of actual service would I be getting? read more

I haven't actually had Dave work on my piano yet, but I'm excited to do so. I inherited an upright piano that is around 100 years old, but hasn't been cared for in probably 30 years. I wanted to confirm that it was actually as old as my family claimed and if it was even repairable and thus worth moving, storing, and repairing. I've used David for piano tunings for 8 years and have recommended him to many of my students and friends. He is very professional and experienced in piano repairing and tuning, and he truly care about bringing the best sound out of a piano. He is certainly a hardworking dedicated music technician. With all my appointments, he has been always on time yet spent at least 2 hours, sometimes 4 hours to get my piano to its best state he can. He is very friendly, patient and genuine, not the bubbly salesman type of tuners. Last year, I bought a new piano and it includes a free tuning from a self-claimed best piano tuner in Chicago. He changed my apts 3 times and was still 45 mins late. Worst of all, he moved all keys 1/8 higher and somehow made the pedal really harsh to press down. I was surprised he finished in one hour. But he left me a piano that was so off that I can not play along with a CD or another keyboard. Needly to say, I called David. When David finished working on it, my piano sounds so beautiful! David's pricing is very fair. He just came to my home for an annual tuning plus voicing and he did sth to remove the string bumps on all key pads. He worked on my piano from 2:30-5:30 and made sure I am truly happy about it. The cost is $120. I think that is super fair... Some tuners would charge $150 just for a one-hour tuning. I trust David with my pianos. I can not think of anything bad about his services. read more

He ALWAYS leaves the piano sounding great, and seems to take extra time caring for it beyond what would be minimally required for it to be merely "in tune." I am submitting this letter to commend Dave Lakitsch on the excellent piano tuning service he provided for me. I recently moved and needed to have my piano tuned for the Christmas Holiday. The service I normally use was booked until after the holidays so, I was desperate to find someone expeditiously who could service my piano in time for my annual Christmas festivities. I asked around and Angie's List suggested Dave Lakitsch. Immediately following my request for service, I received a response. Arrangements were made for piano tuning services within my time frame and a date was set. Dave Lukitsch arrived on time and immediately began servicing my piano. Two (2) hours into the service I noticed the piano was totally dismantled and arranged on the floor. I had some reservations however, Dave discerned my concern by the questions I asked and quickly explained to me what he was doing and why. After Dave shared this information with me, all of my concerns ceased because he clearly knew what he was doing. The detail and attention Dave put into the process far exceeded any piano tuning I've ever had. When Dave Lakitsch finished, the unit sounded the way it initially did when I first purchased it. The unit comes with a CD player and I hadn't heard the instruments sound as distinct as they do now since Dave restored my piano.
