I explained the problem, and they looked at me like they really didn't feel like doing anything but sit in their chairs for the rest of the day. I thought for sure that we were going to be stuck and miss our show that night. But, after a few silent minutes, the lazier of the two men disappeared with the dog, and the mechanic got to work. He discovered a bad wheel bearing and had us fixed up in no time. He hardly said anything, and we got out of there for just over 50 bucks. We tipped him $25 and hit the road. He gave me rough estimates - around $330 if it was just the underbelly piece, and roughly $2,000 combined if the bumper also needed replacement. I appreciated the transparency about the potential range of outcomes. Even though they didn't have the replacement part in stock, Zachary checked with the technicians in the back and had someone come take a look. They ended up patching the panel so it would stop scraping and be safe to drive, and they did the quick fix at no charge. Overall it was a helpful experience. They took a moment to help me out even though it wasn't a full repair job that day, and the staff was straightforward about what the possible repairs might involve.
