The bagels are still a very good buy, but the bagels are not as good as they used to be. The bagels are more bready, almost a roll not a ring anymore and the amount of toppings were almost nonexistent. The everything bagels had very little toppings and the sesame seed bagels had almost no seeds. When I first started going there for bagels the bagels were covered with toppings on both sides making it hard to tell the top from the bottom. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, they open very early and sell out of some bagels so it's a good idea to get there early.

They have a large selection of bagels from which to choose. The app was easy to order from although it said that blueberry bagels were out of stock but when I arrived at the store there were plenty. Perhaps they baked a new batch before I could arrive! As for lunch, the crab dip bagel is deliciously decadent. Most of the bagels had a great texture and chew to them although my dear wife described the texture as "gummy." I ordered a "small" cappuccino which was actually about 16 oz. I wish it was smaller, I.e., made with less milk, because the espresso flavor was very dilute. I ordered a single shot of espresso to give it a boost but even that didn't make it strong enough for me. I don't think I'd order it again without specifying that I wanted about half the milk plus a double or triple shot. Very casual ambience, frequented by local college students. Clean restroom, too!

We got our order and they were basically the same thing. I saw few dices of tomatoes in my sandwich and that was it. My husband realized he was missing the chorizo. So he went to let the worker know. I had already eaten most of my 1/2 sandwich when the worker came and told us to switch plates. Ahem. I didn't have chorizo in mine so switch what? I think the worker realized I had already eaten 1/2 of my sandwich so they said they would add chorizo to my husband's sandwich. Was it worth the extra $3? No. He could barely tased it. It was like smashed and smoothed. Not chunky like most of the breakfast sandwich with slices of tomatoes. Their matcha was good too. I'd ask for no foam as it was a lot of it.

I ordered a sesame bagel with egg, cheese, and scrapple, along with a hash brown. The bagel was nicely toasted and very fresh, which is really what you hope for when you're stopping at a place that specializes in bagels. The sandwich itself was simple but very satisfying. Nothing over the top or crazy fancy, just a well made breakfast sandwich that hit the spot. The service was friendly and quick, and the place itself has a unique feel to it. Inside they sell quite a bit of Surf Bagel merchandise, which gives it a fun local vibe beyond just being a bagel counter. I included a few photos because the shop has a cool look to it. I stopped in around 9 in the morning and it was still pretty busy, even during the off season. That tells me this place probably gets packed during the summer months. But, it was, so my options were limited. My first choices (onion and sesame) were gone, so it fell to secondary availability to meet the need. A few garlic, poppy and plain rounders would have to do. Still, these were quite good; well textured semi-hard skin with softer chewy bread within. Taste was forceful (particularly the garlic) and with toasting, cream cheese or butter and slice of Gruyère, enjoyable. Strong brewed coffee complemented it as hoped. Service was friendly and helpful and appropriately apologetic for lacking my desired flavors. Not their fault that they were so busy on a holiday week. Good for them. Surf is definitely a bagel stop to make on a quieter day when they wouldn't be nearly sold out before noon! 4 Fat Bagel Stars
