A Solid Bagel Stop in Lewes I've eaten at Surf Bagel before, so on the way home from a recent business trip I decided to stop again and grab breakfast to go. I ordered a sesame bagel with egg, cheese, and scrapple, along with a hash brown. The bagel was nicely toasted and very fresh, which is really what you hope for when you're stopping at a place that specializes in bagels. The sandwich itself was simple but very satisfying. Nothing over the top or crazy fancy, just a well made breakfast sandwich that hit the spot. The service was friendly and quick, and the place itself has a unique feel to it. Inside they sell quite a bit of Surf Bagel merchandise, which gives it a fun local vibe beyond just being a bagel counter. I included a few photos because the shop has a cool look to it. I stopped in around 9 in the morning and it was still pretty busy, even during the off season. That tells me this place probably gets packed during the summer months. Seriously?!? if the restaurant is going to upcharge for the extras then the customer should receive what they paid for. Not the first time quality control seems to be an issue. Not your NewYork or Brooklyn bagel. It seems that every bagel tastes the same no matter what you choose. But, Surf has the monopoly on location and when you need a good fix, it's a decent place. Frankly, Duncan doughnut has a better everything bagel. For your own experiment, Acme, Giant and Weis have independent bakers making bagels which are less expensive and better tasting. read more

This is a great option for very good bagels near the Five Points intersection in Lewes! My wife and I shared the nova lox and cream cheese bagel (plain). One son had the breakfast burrito, and the other son had a steak and egg bagel (plain). Everyone was pleased with the bagels which had a nice texture overall. Parking can be a bit crazy on Sunday mornings when it's super-busy, so be sure to pack your patience. Love coming to Surf Bagel anytime we are in town. They have the best bagels and burritos! I usually get the bacon egg and cheese bagel, lox and cream cheese with capers or the beach burrito. The beach burrito has avocado, spinach, egg and cheese. It's a big portion. Sometimes I can save half a bagel for another meal. The kids like the chocolate chip bagel. What was once a great place to visit has dramatically changed for the worse. The new managers are downright rude and nasty with zero personality or customer appreciation. Myself, friends and family were devoted patrons of the Lewes location, but we will not be going back. For some unknown reason, a new manager (female) and general manager (male) were brought in, both of whom have no interpersonal skills at all. Instead of trying to reach out to the loyal patrons and introduce themselves, it became abundantly clear that "there was a new sheriff" in town and it was going to be their establishment. They bark out your order number when ready, don't know how to say "thank you," get blatantly rude with you when you have the audacity to go back up to the counter b/c your order was prepared incorrectly and couldn't smile if you paid them. The female manager seems to be much more concerned with her cell phone than being personable. One of the holdover managers, Matt, is still there, and he is terrific, but he can only do so much and isn't there all the time. Why the change in managers was necessary is beyond all of us, but it's certainly not a change for the better. Absolutely no reason to go back. They have lost many loyal customers read more

Stopped in here with my family for a weekend bagel breakfast during the off-season (early November). There was no line but still a plethora of offerings -- bagels, bagel sandwiches, freshly squeezed juices, and other baked goods. It was hard to decide between a sweet or savory bagel, as well as what type of coffee to order (because there were so many options). The bagels we ordered were fresh with the perfect chew. The cream cheese to bagel ratio was spot on. We noticed a bunch of adorable merchandise available for purchase and ample room for seating both indoors and outdoors. My husband and I stopped in to get bagel breakfast sandwiches and coffee on a cold rainy morning and we enjoyed our meal. The bagels were freshly made and our sandwiches were made to order. I had a sausage, egg and cheese on Egg bagel which was hearty and satisfying. We enjoyed our breakfast at one of the booths inside Surf Bagel and we were plenty entertained watching patrons come and go. Most people dashed in to pick up their call ahead orders and others placed an order to go. In addition to bagels, Surf Bagels also offers breakfast burritos, deli sandwiches and smoothies. For a bagel shop and deli, the menu has quite a bit of variety. I look forward to trying more items on my next visit. read more

My daughter and I visited twice while on vacation to pick up breakfast. They have a nice little patio seating area outside that you can enjoy. What happened to Surf Bagel's bagels? They are small and hard. They used to be soft on the inside and puffy. Hard on the outside ! They don't freeze well. It's so disappointing. When we moved here 13 years ago, they were almost as good as Jersey bagel. The supermarkets have better ! Sad! read more

I stopped by the serve bagel in Lewis this morning. I live off of Route 9 so I come in the back way and the back parking lot to get in to serve bagel in. Louis is absolutely horrendous. There are holes all over the place. Please have somebody go out there and fix the holes people are gonna wreck their cars that the holes are so big.
