This place is amazing! I recently got an accordion at a garage sale and had no idea where to start. I did a bit of online searching, but compared to guitar and piano, the information is a bit sparse and jumbled. Luckily for me, Dave's showed up on Yelp and I called and scheduled a lesson. Once you step inside you immediately feel like you're transported into a different era. Accordions of all shapes, sizes, and models line the walls, and the sounds and smells of of accordions wafts through the walls. I've had two lessons so far with Veronica and they've been great. I think beginners learn from Veronica and experienced/advanced students take lessons from Dave, though I'm not 100% sure about that. Veronica has tons of knowledge and experience on accordions, and I've learned so much more from her than just watching videos online. Even though I have a strong music background her lessons have been invaluable. A lot of things like teaching me the history of my accordion model or pointing out how I was holding my accordion incorrectly are things I would never have learned from online lessons or from just following a book. If you're interested in learning accordion this is definitely the place for you. Also, they do accordion repairs and sales, so if you're in the market for an accordion check this place out. Lessons are 35 dollars per half hour class and it's just pay as you go, there's no minimum of classes or packages that they force you to buy. But you'll definitely want to come back. Parking is super easy, their driveway has a few spaces (though they're always taken when I'm there) but there's tons of parking in the residential street right by the entrance. Just FYI the entrance is through the driveway on Hollydale, NOT on Glendale Blvd. There's a big sign there you can't miss it. read more

Only been here once but it FEELS like a rare institution. If you need accordion experts, this is the place to go. My husband inherited an old accordion that got damaged during air transport. We took it in, stood in one of the workshops with a technician while they were able to fix the issue and show us some interesting things about the instrument. Extremely knowledgeable, skilled, friendly, and fair. They are surprisingly busy, perhaps because there aren't many shops like them around, so good for them! Dave said he's been open since the '70s, so that should tell you about their level of experience. There are tons of incredible, unique accordions in various states all around this little place. Lots of character! They also offer lessons and I'm pretty sure I heard someone practicing violin behind a closed door. Fun Fact: Weird Al is a regular patron and friend here. Access: The building looks unassuming from the front, you have to walk around and enter through the back entrance. Street parking was easy to find. read more

Showed me around, and let me play on a few of their accordions while I waited. Even let me poke in his workshop to show me the insides of my accordion while he fixed it and chatted. Very friendly. Accordion feels as good as new. Couldn't be happier. Also just a quick note if you're visiting. While they are renovating you have to use the back entrance, through the gate. I love the owners! They have such a good heart! --- I actually used to come here for their dance studio, which I used to rent to practice and rehearse salsa routines. There is plenty of parking after about 4-5 PM, and the space is private, intimate, and spacious! They also love the fact that it is being used and like to watch sometimes, or to simply see finished routines. They adore dance. As far as Accordions, from what little I understand, they are a TOP location for some serious "accordion musicians" in all of the world. I actually saw a Mexican guy dressed in gold (pretty much) buying some pretty expensive accordions in there. It happened that he was a famous musicians from a famous Mexican band known worldwide. After wanting to play the accordion for years, I finally bought a slightly broken one. I brought it into Dave's Accordion School and it was apparently a very easy fix which they did for free. Dave and his wife Veronika are the nicest people and I immediately felt taken care of. Veronika has been teaching me accordion and I've already done through one level. It seems so logical under her tutelage and it's my new favorite thing. If you've ever wanted to learn accordion or need your instrument fixed, there's pretty much nowhere else to go anyway, but it doesn't hurt that Dave, Veronika and their crew are awesome and obviously so passionate about music. read more

Dave teaches my younger brother Accordion and I often bring him to his lessons. Dave and his wife are so very kind and they deeply care for their business and customers, especially their students. He will often tell us that a famous bands Accordion player stopped by that day for a tune up. It seems every famous Accordion player in Los Angeles has dropped off his Accordion while they are in town for a gig. Most recently it was the Accordion from the Goo Goo Dolls. My brother had another teacher prior to Dave, whom he loved but through Dave he has rediscovered Accordion. He can really play and has a wonderful repertoire because of Dave. Often when he plays Dave will play with him and just make up a harmony and join in with him. Its so lovely to watch them play together. If you are looking to buy an Accordion, get repairs or you are looking for an extraordinary teacher, I could not recommend Dave's Accordion highly enough. And they don't just teach Accordion! Dave is a magnificent instructor, so knowledgeable, personable and funny. My son, Jack, adores him and loves coming to his weekly lesson. The studio also fixes accordions, and Dave has expertly fixed Jack's vintage Apollo Guillietti accordion. This place is a gem! I visited pre-pandemic and got my Gabbanelli 5 switch diatonic 3-row 34-button accordion serviced there. They repaired/replaced 3 reeds and they tuned it, all for a more than reasonable price. They are very passionate about their work and it shows. I hope they stay in business, as I see a 'for sale' sign out front. I would spend more time and money there if I could. read more

If you live on the west coast accordion centric places are far and few between so Dave's Accordion school is the beacon of light in this accordion-less town that is Los Angeles. Dave and his wife run the store which offers sales, service and lessons. I know of no other place to get an accordion fixed in Los Angeles but if anyone else does let me know. As for lessons if you are a beginner in accordion you will get lessons from Dave's wife or their assistant. If you are good enough Dave will give you the lessons due to the high demand of his services (I'm not kidding). I've gotten my accordion fixed their and received lessons from Dave. The location is kind of random but if you are the only game in town it doesn't really matter. Around 30 bucks for a half hour lesson. Pay per lesson or buy a bunch up front. read more

If you take in an accordion for repair I would request that Dave himself perform the repairs - he is much more detail oriented than his assistant. I went to pick up and Dave found that bellows clip was still broken and his assistant did not think to fix up or replace all the rusted snaps. Dave ended up replacing those on the spot. Also, be sure to follow up with the repairs - no one called me when the repairs were "finished". I tried calling 3 weeks after drop off to find out it had been ready for who knows how long. When it was ready he showed it to me in the same room where his wife was giving someone a lesson, and where someone else was trying out accordions for purchase. He plugged it into an amp, we tried not to disturb the lesson. I didn't really have a good chance to hear how it worked so I simply took it home, trusting Dave. His wife, BTW, had told me at an earlier time that she does not play the accordion. Once home I found that it sounded very harsh and tinny on just a couple of notes, did nothing at all on the rest. In addition to a volume knob there was a tone knob. At first it appeared to do nothing at all; I finally discovered that it did the same thing as the volume knob except in reverse - counter clockwise made those same couple of notes louder. Both knobs were on shafts that were too long, causing there to be a gap of nearly half an inch between knobs and accordion. In addition to looking unprofessional and wrong, it created a place for dust to collect just where it would do the most damage. The pickup was later removed by a professional who confirmed that I had been sold ancient, mismatched, parts-bin junk. When I called Dave he said that the knobs were supposed to stick out like that, accordionists prefer it that way because it's easier to reach. He really said that. His other response: "Well you were here, you had a chance to try it out, right?" That's right - I snooze, I lose. Buyer beware. Caveat emptor. You hear these all the time, just never from the actual seller. So take a tip from Dave: Buyer beware. And the next time you see knobs on an accordion, electric guitar, amp, radio, oven, replace them with the kind that are easier to reach. read more

Flaky Experience...The shop is old school, very run down with lots of accordion's lying around the floor, on shelves, and in many states of repair or modification. However, upon arrival we were very excited because Dave's shop looked like the real thing. The guy has been around for years and it seemed he knew the business. We weren't put off by the mess because we wanted a used instrument and it appeared that we had found used accordion Mecca. My wife is the one searching for an accordion. She is a complete accordion novice, but has played the piano for many years. She tried out several units and Dave was very accommodating...for a while. None of the instruments had price tags, which didn't bother us much, but every time I asked what something cost the price would change...up. Like, Dave handed my wife one to play, I asked the price and he said, oh, it's $395.00. When my wife said she really liked the accordion, the price suddenly changed to $600. We caught on to that one pretty quick, but continued looking around. Then one of Dave's students arrived. Dave gives lessons right in the middle of his shop and while my wife was trying out another accordion he told her to go somewhere else and play that thing. Rather weird form nice to surly, but we could tell he was getting edgy. We went down the hall to another room and continued checking out instruments with one of Dave's assistants, who was very nice. When my wife finally decided on one, the assistant went to ask Dave how much it was and came back with a price of $500, which we were happy with. Then all of the sudden Dave said it was "cash only." The assistant seemed very apologetic and told us there were ATM's down the street. Well, this was Saturday and most ATM's only hand out $200, unless it's your own bank, which it wasn't. Dave doesn't accept credit cards and his hand scratched sign say's "checks" or cash only, which we were fine with, but apparently that changes with Dave's attitude, too. So, after spending an hour on the freeway getting there, spending a couple of hours looking at used accordions and putting up with Dave's mood swings, it was "take it or leave it time" or "don't let the door knob hit you in the back" when you leave...which we did. read more
