So I was craving a steak sub all day. Could have went to the location closer to work but opted to order near home for delivery. Subs came and as I was proceeding to open mine i noticed it was wet. The bread was wet, odd because I had them toasted. Nope it was soaking wet and fell apart and off the counter to the floor. Called and they said oh it was fine when it was made. Told me to take it up with the delivery person. So I tried that and it was AI. It kept telling me that I needed to submit a picture. So I submitted a pic of it in the trash can , it was no good and they refused to give me my money back. That's cool. I will just go to the bank and see about my money with them including tip. I was so disappointed in our sandwich. It may be because we came right at opening 11am. Our bread tasted day old and there was no seasoning. I think they weren't prepared for us to be there so early but if you say you're open at 11, please be ready. I heard Dave's was revamped with new investors involved. This is usually a bad sign. I worked from home today and figured I'd give it a try anyway. In the past, Dave's was a solid four stars for me. Upon arrival, the advertising seemed much more prolific and they got digital menus. Ok, whatever. The old classic rock tunes were replaced with some horrible psychedelic electronic pop stuff. They didn't have the sloppy Dave, off the menu. The Dirty potato chips I loved were replaced with Subway style Lay's, Ruffles and Ms. Vicky's. I passed. I got the original. It was okay, but not the same. The bread was replaced with something with less taste and quality. The meat may have been replaced too. The sandwich went from pretty good to just okay. And no free pickle spear. So I gave it a chance. Doubt I will be back. Potbelly down the street is better. read more

All together for a drink, chips, and sub combo I paid $11! Quite a steal! The food came out rather quick, and of course fresh! I tried the Dave's original cosmic sub from here on a whim. You know take out is my jam so naturally I got delivery. I was visiting family and didn't know what to order so when in doubt get whatever the restaurant calls "the original." This sub was an Italian classic. The meat and cheese was good quality. There was shredded mozzarella that actually had flavor so you know it was better than just the bagged stuff you buy yourself at the store. The Italian dressing worked well with the crusty fresh bread. The banana peppers were added to the side which was odd so they kept falling out but I think there was just lots of food packed in. Mediocre sandwich shop with a disappointing pickle. I always base any sandwich shop off of their most Famous or most Ordered sandwich on their menu. I ordered the #1 Original Cosmic Dave's Sub - Regular. It had plenty of meat on it but it was incredibly lacking in the taste factor. The sauce gave it a little more zing but even that seemed like it had something missing in it. Next time I will ask what is the most ordered Sub and request it to be made hot. Hopefully that will accentuate some of the flavors and make it a better experience. Oh - and the pickle was probably the most tasteless, disappointing pickle I've ever eaten. I love pickles. I've had Dave's plenty of times first time review. Dave's brings a quality sandwich at a descent price. I ordered their crazy Dave voted "#1" sandwich in Cleveland. Dunno by who but that's what it says on their menu. Starting with the bread this is the worst part of the sandwich only sandwich shop with worse bread is subway. The bread is just way to hard and ends up scratching your mouth. Only meats were prosciutto and capicola quality cuts. The hot peppers were perfect little spice add and Dave's cosmic sauce is delicious. Over all 7/10 losing points just because of the bread. read more

I ordered a #28 hot. My husband picked it up. Not hot cheese wasn't melted and missing items. I called and they said they would remake it. Then my husband goes to pick it up and they want to charge him. Girl never said that on the phone. I call them and owner asks what I want and tell him the problem all over again. Let's start with the fact that I always love a good turkey sub. I came here after a botched attempt at getting my blood drawn meaning I hadn't ate in over 12 hours and was about to cry in anticipation. Pro: they have 27 options. Con: when you're so hungry you could cry it's hard to read through 27 options. I asked the woman working there what her favorite one was and she listed three for me. I picked the Grateful Dave because it had turkey and some type of hot pepper sauce. Service was fast and polite. The inside is a little dingy and dirty looking. As in there is one folding table inside so if you're looking to eat in I would look elsewhere. I wanted to love this place, and it was good- but not as good as I wanted it to be. I will say the daves special sauce is phenomenal. They also have a ton of chip options to go with it which I wish I would have looked at before I said no. Anyway, the way the toppings were with how shallow the bread was meant the fillings kept shooting out the top and I was basically left with a bread/sauce taco. I liked how the bread tasted but it was very crusty which definitely made the sandwich hard to eat. Additionally, my pickle was pretty, how do I say this, waxy? I love pickles and usually don't discriminate (except for sweet pickles, sorry guys) and I threw most of this one away. Another thing I thought was odd was the fountain drinks were the same price as the bottled sodas ($1.70) I don't know about you but for somewhere I'm not getting free refills at I feel like that's a little steep for a fountain drink. I've gotten 32 oz for $0.60 pretty regularly so that irked me AND it was flat. All and all it cost me about $10 for my sub, a drink, and a $1 tip. Ok where to begin, well I went to the Crocker Park location and realized it wasn't the place I had intended to dine. My friend and I thought what the hell, let's give it a try. We walk into a very tie dyed place that seems like it caters to regulars. I order the number 14, a hot tuna sub with melted cheese. For the amount I got for the the price I payed I could have walked to Giant Eagle and gotten a Lb of tuna salad and made a better sub myself at home in my pajamas in front of the tv Onto the quality of the sub. It was sub par, the bread was hard like it had been stored for a day or so before they heated it up. The tuna salad was ok, but who puts melted cheddar on tuna salad?? There was more lettuce on the sub than tuna and as I learned from cooking myself and watching food network, every bite of a sandwich should be the same, they broke this rule. Finally to end it off, while the staff was polite, they seemed very casual like it was their house, no visible name tags or hats. I just don't think this is my kind of place, I'll be going to jimmy johns or making my own subs at home As a side note. The menu on the wall looks like one huge license plate. I'm a firm believer in giving any new place I try a second chance. So after a first try fail a few months back we gave Dave's another go tonight. Still unimpressed. I got the Hey Dave. Just a basic roast beef, cole slaw, Swiss, and some special sauce. Should be a pretty good sammy! Well, it was alright. Nothing special to reflect the premium pricing or the boasting of being the best sandwich shop in Cleveland. One bite of the pickle and it went straight to the trash. It was intolerably salty. There was no other flavor layer. Pure salt. Throughout the bread was a layer of two slices of roast beef. Two. Like Subway style. The rest of the sandwich was then stuffed with the coleslaw, lettuce, and the proprietary sauce. All three of these items were okay. But I like coleslaw on my sandwiches. I don't like coleslaw sandwiches. Down to the bread. It seems like it's made fresh which is awesome but maybe not stored properly? We ordered later in the day. The outside had a nice crunchy crust to it but the inside had no soft chew to offset it. It ended up being just flakey and dry throughout. Thank goodness for all that coleslaw and sauce! It's an indie business and clearly people really like it which I always like to see. But I just feel that for what they charge, it should be a little bit better. They have decent sandwiches and are a local chain. The menu is varied and the sandwiches all have names. Oozing with cleveland "rock n roll capitol of the world" pride. It's a bit kitchy, to be honest, but if you have friends from out of town who really love touristy stuff, you could take them there, although you wouldn't really be able to sit if the one card table they use for guests who decide to eat there is occupied. One thing I did not know, until today, was that their hot subs only come in one size, "regular", so if you order a "large" they will just make you two, and then charge you for two. Which is a lot different from the usual concept of large, as well as considerably more expensive. As a customer, it would be good to know about this before you go to order a large and end up paying almost $14 for a sandwich. read more

Came in asking for a Turkey Dave. The gentleman at the register told who I learned was the owner (the person preparing my sandwich) I'd like it with no cheese and toasted. The owner claimed the order taker did not communicate this. I then confirmed to the owner he did. This is about 7 minutes later. Owner throws the sandwich against the wall towards the trash, begins a new sandwich, but neglects to close the oven. I tell him this, he tells me, "It's fine dude, relax." I ask for the name of the guy and the person at the register tells me he doesn't know. He then tells me he's the owner. They then take another 10 minutes to get back to me, at which point I ask for my money back. 5 more minutes, at which point the owner comes and is super confrontational because I asked, goes, "What's the problem?" I tell him, he at first tells me to take my change and go, I remind him the money on the counter is the change I was given, he jams open the register gives me my $20 and slams the register shut. Seeing as how Dave is the heir to the Seaway food fortune(on the website look it up), i had my doubts. I've always seen these places around, but the hippy dippy Janis-Jim Morrison vibe kind of put me off. But they sent me coupons in the mail, and a coupon= purchase. I got a free 8" sub with the purchase of a regularly priced one. That's $6 worth of free food! The Haight Ashbury looked good, but the name conjured up images of barefoot idiots dancing madly in circles to Ekoostik Hookah at Nelson's Ledges. So i got the Veg Out. It had mushrooms,artichokes, and other veggie delights in a zippy sauce. Highly recommended for vegetarians. I also picked up a Tuna Dave which is your basic tuna sandwich. It was kind of small, but had extra flavor compared to a Subway tuna. The shop on Detroit is tiny and sort of reminds me of a storefront one would find in a college town like Athens, Columbus or Austin. I dig that. Dude working there had a rock and roll look and a Spitfire Grill trucker hat. I bet his life is way more interesting than mine. Wait, was that sarcasm? I'm not sure anymore.... I also approve of all the psychedelic poster reprints on the walls. They are nice for novices to look at. Myself, being a connoisseur of such artifacts, was not completely floored by the selection. A little pricey for what you are getting, I tend to be a subway fan overall. Nonetheless the subs are good. Don't plan on eating while you are there. This location and their Westlake location have little to no seating. A few tables at best. The rock memorabilia is nice to look at while you wait. This place seems to be a little forgettable though. Amazing gluten free bread!! I've been craving a sub for a while and I noticed they had gluten free bread available. They assured me it was dairy free as well!
