The food was spectacular with just the right amount of spice and flavor, especially the mozzarella sticks. The service was probably the reason I took a star off because of the mozz sticks not being hot and ready when given to us, they were actually dry, cold, and stretchy, still liked the flavor though. The ambiance (atmosphere) was awesome with some wild and funny art inside and really clean tables and chairs, the staff was also really nice to us as they understood our need for the large cup when I ordered a regular drink because they were out of regular drink tops. We decided to try Dave's Hot Chicken, located at 100 Coastal Way just off Battlefield Boulevard in the heart of Chesapeake, for lunch today. The moment you walk through the door, the place has personality. The exposed red ductwork, colorful murals, graffiti-style artwork, and bright red furnishings give the restaurant a fun, energetic vibe without feeling overdone. More importantly, the food here is very good. We opted to try Dave's #2, which consists of two sliders with fries, served with kale slaw, pickles, and Dave's Sauce. In retrospect, we probably should have dialed the heat level back a notch or two, but what the heck, WE LIVE ONCE! We selected EXTRA HOT, and they're not fooling around. IT IS HOTT! That said, underneath all that heat there is plenty of flavor. Everything works together very nicely, especially the chicken, kale slaw, pickles, and Dave's Sauce. On our next visit, we'll probably opt out of the bun. My Wife simply took hers off the bun and ate the chicken by itself, and frankly, it doesn't need much help. The housemade pickles are a standout. They have just the right bite and complement the chicken really well. The sauces are very good too, especially Dave's Sauce. It's creamy, smoky, slightly sweet, and does a great job balancing some of that serious heat. We also enjoyed reading the story of how Dave's started in 2017 with three childhood friends, a parking lot, a portable fryer, and $900. It's quite a story considering what the brand has become. We had a great overall experience here, and we are already planning our next visit. And considering EXTRA HOT had our full attention, I think we'll leave REAPER for someone considerably braver! read more

I'll admit it...I was skeptical when Dave's Hot Chicken opened. I thought, "Do we really need another chicken chain around here?" Turns out, yes. Yes, we do. This place is SO good and has quickly become one of my favorite chains in the area. The breading, seasoning, and flavor are all on point. My typically order is the slider with fries. I've also tried the fried mozzarella with their seasoning, and they were delicious. I would've loved a bigger cheese pull (I still give Chili's the edge there), but Dave's spice blend makes them worth ordering. Honestly, I have to stop myself from coming here too often. Service was horrible for us, you walk in, zero greeting. We tried to use the kiosk that's available but it wouldn't work. We stood at the counter for help, the girls that were fixing the slush machine completely ignored us. 5 mins waiting and another girl comes out and asks if we're ready to order. Takes our order, they offer a military discount so she took our drinks off. She gave me the wrong drink, then she tells me she took the drinks off but didn't offer to fix it for the one I wanted. I did see they were nicer to others who came in after us. Must of caught them at a bad moment. Cleanliness is not there, thankfully there was a clean table but 60% of the tables and under the tables were dirty. The a/c must of been set high because it felt like outside without a breeze. And it was HOT today. Ordered at 1:30 pm, food was received at 1:51pm. We had the Dave's Big Trio $17.99 & Top Loaded Buffalo Mac $6.99. Yessssss! This was 10s all the way around. Well, 9.8 but I'll tell ya why the -.2 in a minute. The people working were so charismatic and welcoming that when you first walk in you're just know it's going to be a good experience. I went to take a picture of the chicken claw machine and one of the workers came over and held one up and then gave it to me. #okaykindness The decor, super trendy and gives sort of LA vibes. Very loud and colorful and eclectic. When I went to order, they were able to give lots of information and gave recommendations. I knew that if I got something big that I wouldn't be able to eat dinner cause it was already going to be a late lunch so I ordered a small Top Loaded Fries. I did ask if there was a military discount which they gave me a free drink. Here's where they lose the .2 points... I was going to get Dr Pepper, but it was completely out. Just fizz came out of the machine. Can't really complain, it was a free drink. I ended up getting Sprite, which was fine. I couldn't stay so I got my food to go and they gave me extra sauces and utensils. I couldn't wait when I got to my car. I opened it and it was absolutely delicious. It looked and smelled amazing, but the taste was so good. The sauce was a sweet and tangy like sauce and the coleslaw, I'm guessing, was nice and crunchy and fresh. I crushed it. I ended up getting light mild, but I think I could've gone a bit spicier. I do wish there was more than three nuggets on the fries. First time having Dave's Hot Chicken and it kind of felt extremely overhyped. The design of the place was super cool and the atmosphere seemed to be pretty clean. As far as the food, the chicken tasted like they made it fresh in the morning and threw it in the fryer to warm it up, it didn't taste fresh at all and the fries they served were cold. We ordered ahead for pick up, which sounded great - unfortunately when we got there, we found the staff to be extremely slow and unorganized. The one lady up front was slow at bagging and getting out orders, lots of people were waiting around for food ... ultimately we ended up waiting 35 minutes after our pickup time before we finally got our food. You walk in thinking, "I'll just grab something quick," and five minutes later you're aggressively ordering like you haven't seen food since 2007. The chicken? Outstanding. Crispy like it has a personal vendetta against sogginess. Juicy enough to make you pause mid-bite and reconsider your life choices. The spice levels are no joke. I ordered "medium" with confidence and left questioning my pain tolerance and several past decisions. Delicious? Absolutely. Humbling? Also yes. The fries were seasoned like someone cared. Not a lazy sprinkle. A committed, full-relationship level of seasoning. Service was fast and friendly. The staff had the calm energy of people who know they're about to watch customers underestimate the heat scale. Respect. Why four stars instead of five? Because "hot" is not a suggestion there. Building is very fun from the outside. I only give it four stars because the shake was forgettable, had a chalky texture that I could've done without. Chicken was delicious though - texture was great, not dry, both levels of spice were very flavorful. Slider comes with pickles on a bun & tender comes with Texas toast & pickles. OMG! I'm so glad I waited to go to the brand new location off Battlefield Blvd...this meal was sooooooooo dam* good! Plus, the service was top tier and the cashier Aaliyah was so gracious and helpful-promote her! The whole staff was amazing and the atmosphere is new, so I will be back to see how it grows. I had the slider and tender meal with a strawberry milkshake, and it was delicious and filling. The spices go from: no spice, lite mild, mild, medium, hot, extra hot, and reaper; my spice level was medium-which was spicy enough-to reaper which I'm not even going to put my mouth and stomach through all of that. Keep in mind with the reaper spice level, you must sign a waiver before getting your food. Nonetheless, the food was enough that I have leftovers. This was OK...I've come here a lot recently to pick up grubhub orders and they're always packed. I will say the presentation of the slider was GREAT. It was VERY hot. I got "hot". There's two flavors above that and it's "very hot" and "reaper". Even though I got "hot" it was VERY hot lol. I'm not mad at that just giving you an idea of the heating scale. Fries were ok. I was told to visit this store because they had advertised a restock of the Fallout meal the night before which turned out to be a lie. I walked 4 miles calling the store 10 times to make sure. There was no answer. Not a busy signal, just inattentive employees. When I finally get to the store it was messy, the fire alarm was going off for no reason, and the employees were playing around. As to be expected from such an unprofessional setting I was told they did not have the meal as advertised. When I talked to the supposed manager I asked why no one was answering the phones, and was met with a simple shrug. I also tried to contact corporate, with no surprise again there is no number, so you have to send an email. The email was not received, or it was ignored.
