I had to update this review. Ever since I was introduced to Nando's (by Yelp, mind you), I have been a crazy person about it. If I remember this place exists mid conversation (any conversation), I stop to tell the person I'm talking to about it. The food here is so good and so fresh!! They got rid of the peas, and when I asked the waiter about it, no one knew what I was talking about. But from the picture you can see they existed lol. I'm sad about the peas, but this time i discovered a new obsession: their Brussels sprouts. Oh. My. Goodness. I will dream about them. The peri ranch on top of them was just *perfection.* The chicken is always so juicy and freshly made. The char on it smacks every time. You can choose different sauces to dip it in. They're available to bring to your table where the silverware and napkins live. I always get my chicken medium spicy and dip it in the wild herb or the garlic sauce. 10/10. Can you tell I'm obsessed? I chose this restaurant at Town Center to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've had. When we arrived, the restaurant was not busy, yet no one greeted or seated us inspite of the board saying " Please wait to be Seated" . We eventually walked to the counter to place our order. The staff member serving us was cold, unfriendly. Since it was our first visit, we expected at least a warm welcome or some guidance on the menu, but none was offered. We simply ordered what looked appealing. We weren't offered water, after I asked Instead of handing me a glass which she did for everyone,she simply pointed and said, "The water is over there." That interaction made me feel unwelcome. The wait for our food was unreasonably long. I noticed that our meals had already been prepared but were left sitting on the counter instead of being brought to our table. Many other customers appeared frustrated by the delays, especially families with young children who were visibly struggling with the long wait. Throughout most of our visit, we could only see the kitchen staff. There seemed to be no one attending to the dining area or checking on guests. When our food finally arrived, it wasn't even hot. We ordered the half chicken with peri-peri fries and the chicken breast with Brussels sprouts. I could not see any sauce on my food, I ordered Medium sauce, you can see in the picture I posted. My chicken breast was burnt, dry, and had a bitter taste. The sauces were good, especially the Saka sauce, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to make up for the rest of the experience. What disappointed me most was the complete lack of customer service. I later decided to order another item, but there was no one at the counter. After waiting for several minutes without anyone returning, I gave up. To make matters worse, the payment process still prompted for a tip despite the absence of service, which the staff mentioned. Tipping should reflect good hospitality, and unfortunately there was very little service provided during our visit. It was disappointing that my birthday dinner ended this way. The only reason I'm knocking off a star is the fact that it will never quite live up to its UK counterparts. Counting down the days until I can visit an English Nando's! Peri peri chicken is definitely the way to go here. I got the 1/4 Chicken Breast (Medium Hot) with two sides. Beware this breast comes with bones! Other than that, it was absolutely perfect- juicy, tender, and finger-licking-goooodddd. My sides of choice were peri peri friends (obvi) and seasoned rice. While you really can't go wrong with these, I oddly enough miss the peas they have over in the UK. Overall, it was an amazing experience! Honestly, I went to Nando's because of the hype in other states, and the chicken was actually really good. The restaurant itself is confusing when it comes to service. You do not get your order taken at the table and instead have to order at the counter, yet they still add extra fees like a service charge on top of an eat in charge, which I find crazy. I do not understand why we are paying to eat in when you are already ordering at the counter and paying yourself. I was attending the Virginia Beach grand illumination and wanted something warm to eat to counter the cold night. Nando's was right there so we decided to give them a try. I've been wanting to try NAndos since seeing g it on another persons TikTok. When we arrived they were busy but still welcomed us and sat us within 5 mins. Think of this place as fast casual. You either order yourself from your phone at your table or at the counter. The menu had lots of interesting options and they are know for their chicken and sauces. However, We decided to go with the rainbow bowl with medium spice chicken breast, fries and Brussel sprouts as sides all ordered through our phone. There is staff walking around to assist you and clean tables. My husband wanted a drink and asked the team members opinion. She also suggested he ask for a sample which was a great call out. Thank you team member I wish I got her name. He sampled the sangria and the peach poncha. Both were strong!!! We liked the peach more but ultimately decided against a drink. Even though they were busy it only took about 10 minutes for our food to come out. Everything looked amazing. The bowl was flavorful and filling. Next time I will add the second piece of chicken that was an option. I am a Brussel sprouts lover and theirs were hands down the best! The peri ranch was what made the difference. If you like Brussel sprouts don't pass these up. The fries were good and had a light dusting of a seasoning we couldn't distinguish but still yummy. I haven't met a fry I didn't like . Its with heavy heart that I have to write such a low review on a place that my family has enjoyed going to since opening. It is very difficult to start so I will just say my piece, we came into today and were seated with no difficulty, made the order throught the app as we took our seats and were given our drinks right away. That's the positive part. We waited for an hour for our meal, never at Nandos have we waited more than 30mins, finished plates were stacking up under the hot lamps, and guests who had arrived prior to us were just walking out. Apparently a "large" catering order had take 45 mins to complete, no communication to any customers as to the wait, just dodging glances and convenient motions from anyone inquiring as to how their food was doing. Our food was delivered incomplete, dry and with poor service. As I stated before Nandos has always been a love of the family and now, we see new people managing, we see new people serving it has LOST the nostalgia it once held, its been slipping for months but we have been patient, we have been understanding. We could have ordered with the QR code but it was our first time there and had we ordered through the QR code, we wouldn't have been able to sample those items before we ordered. I really really like this place! It's like fast casual dining. There's a lovely outdoor sitting area that's in front of the Town Center stage. When you walk in, you can sit anywhere and look over the menu. Once you decide what you want, you would need to go to the front to place your order then someone will bring it to you. I always go for one of the bowls and get a side of macho peas. The peas is seasoned well with a little kick and the added mint gives it a bright flavor profile. This is my first time eating here during a non-yelp event, and they didn't disappoint me! The server explained how we ordered and paid for our food through their QR code, and it was pretty easy and straightforward. Although the chicken legs stated as 1/4 each, they're both pretty thicc with a lot of meat on it. The meat came right off the bone, and you can smell the char from a distance. The legs are cooked to perfection and very juicy. The Peri Peri chicken bowl is a decent light meal and the ingredients were fresh. The chicken thigh was not as juicy as the legs but the flavor is pretty decent and goes well with the rice. I put some of the lemon and herb sauce they provided and the saice was hot (in a good way)! Thr garlic bread is crispy but I'd prefer more garlic and butter. The rice was decent too. Unfortunately we didn't like the peach and lemon tea that we ordered. They just tasted weird to us. First the positive. The food was phenomenal. I'm a huge fan of Peruvian chicken. I love the bite of the vinegar in the marinade. Granted this is a Portuguese place but it was still essentially Peruvian chicken. I chose the chicken and "chips". The fries had a spice on them that wasn't too hot. I got a free order of garlic bread with it. The garlic bread was super garlicky but I love garlic so I liked it. Others might find it overpowering. They knew it was our first time there and explained how to order. They did not tell us about the utensils and napkins. The ordering and the way the food is delivered is a negative. The fact that they don't bring napkins or utensils with your food? Just made the whole thing awkward. We will definitely be going back. One of my friends went to Nando's with her dad during a trip to London in 2016 and enjoyed the food. So she set up a meetup here where Sophia and I joined with another friend of ours for lunch. They opened up this location back in February where it has received good word-of-mouth. Would the trek for us from Newport News be worth it? Upon entering, we were immediately seated by the staff. The decor is beautiful and African pop music played on the speakers. Once we all got together, we ordered via the QR code at our table. This truly saves time for each server to write down orders on paper. From our table, we could see orders on the computer screen and food being served. And the smell....could not resist. For my meal, I chose the sweet and spicy chicken wrap with a side of fries along with some dipping sauce via Nando's. It was very good and flavorful. The medium seasoned chicken thighs along with veggies, sweet chili jam and cilantro yogurt came together. And the fries were cooked perfectly and tasted even better with the sauces I selected (lemon-herb and garlic). Each of us got full so you know we were all satisfied. Some friends and I decided to go to Nando's as we had heard some really good comments and wanted to try them out a few months after their opening (Feb. 16th). We had a mixed emotions visit. No one takes the time to explain the ordering system. They prefer you order through their app and will bring it to your table. We tried ordering a combo but the app would not allow me to add sides. An employee said just walk up to the counter and order from the register. Our order arrived with items missing, (cauliflower), wrong seasoning on the chicken, even missing items that we were up charged for (dipping sauces). We had to go back up to the counter and ask for cutlery, never brought even though we had asked for some. The food was very tasty but the entire environment was lacking structure. If an establishment wants to differentiate itself from the fast casual with unique ordering systems they need to make sure they are fully explained and most importantly work. read more

If you have any questions, it's kind of hard to get somebody to answer them but at the same time you get to have this experience at your own pace, and don't feel rushed When you order your food, there is also a sauce bar on the inside where you can try their specialty dressings and sauces I suggest trying a little bit of each. Some of them are quite spicy, but most are delicious. The coffee is very basic. It is basically a canned nitro poured into a glass, but does have a good taste to it and pairs very well with your tart as a quick dessert or a first course snack while you wait on friends to join the fun We got lucky and the weather was absolutely beautiful. We really enjoyed this meal!! There is a lot of hype leading up to it, and really we weren't disappointed. At once (on a Sunday at lunch) we were seated and had the process explained to us, as well as a brief history of the restaurant and its origins. So cool! I really appreciate having some perspective on what they do and why. My onlyyy complaint, literally, is that you have to order on your phone. And I don't mean that in the "less screens are better" kind of way... I say that because usually when I sit down to eat I'm on the verge of hangry, have 2 kiddos with me, I've never been here before and don't know the menu, and now I have to scroll on my phone when literally all I want is to be able to pay someone to help me get food, haha. So, for me personally it takes away from the great service that does exist here, and makes it seem like they're distant, and puts more pressure on the customer. But the chicken- SO GOOD! Ours came out hot and fresh, unbelievably so. We got medium which is really not very spicy, especially if you're an eclectic eater. We tried all the sauces on the side too from the sauce bar and loved em all. The fries were spot on, too, with a great seasoning that even my pretty-picky 7yo loved. When I heard there was a Nando's coming to Hampton Roads, I was beyond excited. I first tried this chain when I went to Washington, D.C., and got hooked on their chicken sandwich (pro tip: add Haloumi cheese). From then on, anytime I was near a Nando's, I went out of my way to eat there. I went to the Virginia Beach location the first week or so after they opened and overall had a great experience. We came at just the right time and were able to be seated right away because shortly after we arrived the line grew exponentially. One thing that was different from other Nando's I had been to is that you are immediately seated, given a table number, and then prompted to order through your phone. You still get your own refills, sauces, etc. but I actually liked this method better because I wasn't left searching for a table after ordering from the register. The food, as expected, was delicious and on par with other Nando's I've been to. I swear the Perinaise just hits different when you get it at the restaurant as opposed to the bottles at the grocery store. I loved the sauce bar where you could try the different flavors of their Peri Peri sauce. Ultimately, the reason I give it four stars instead of one is because I believe it's very pricey for what you get (to be fair, I did add extras like the Haloumi cheese and spicy Perinnaise). What I paid was probably equivalent to a sit-down chain restaurant. However, I will definitely be dropping in every once in a while to get my Nando's fix! read more
