The cashiers at the front end are generally engaging (more so the women than the men, at least to me). Who ever is at the courtesy counter is often held up making the 8 items or less line sometimes a long wait. The meat section is legendary! I do not partake of their prepared food. My low score is due to how they manage their line to the front end. There are 3 registers that you have to get in a line for that goes down one of the isles, which can be awkward for someone shopping in that isle. My biggest issue is that people can "cut" in front of the line. They dont really police it, and if you try to say something to the offender they, of course, just ignore you. Again, this is a wonderful neighborhood grocery, but they really should figure out a better check out set up.

When I asked for the meat to be cut up into smaller pieces, the butcher sent a message that he could not do any further cutting because he had cut his finger. Of course I left as quickly as I could. The meat is cut in the basement out of customers sight. Hard to know what goes on in the basement area. I hope city inspectors are checking out the place often for cleanliness. I've actually been a customer at McKinnon's going back all the way to the 80s. Back in the day my dad and I used to drive over to Everett and get truckloads full of meats for our barbecues. We roll up with a truck loaded up with ice. We used to purchase about 15 pork roasts 50 to 100 pounds of hamburg, same for chicken wings, sausages etc. as we used to have huge Fourth of July parties with approximately 400 people at our house and we purchased all the meats here. Always a good experience, always good quality never any negativity at this store. Onto the present I still currently stop in a couple times a month to pick up a porterhouse or some of their specialty marinated meats. They also have killer homemade deli roast beef behind the counter for sandwiches. As most markets, they have the miscellaneous, a little vegetable section, some dry goods, etc., etc. but I still consider this a butchery. They have fabulous meats, chickens etc. go by you might get lucky with a special. There's about 8 or 10 offstreet parking spots so hopefully you get lucky and get one. If not, wait about five minutes circle the block and one will open up. FYI, parking on Broadway you do need to pay the meter. The staff here are either seasoned veterans or high school kids all which are very respectful and helpful. Check them out for your next barbecue or if you're just in the market for a protein, you'll probably be a customer for life.
