I visited Dr. Barnett yesterday from a medical rep associate referral. My buddy had to have his back fused and Barnett is his hero. I did not know what to expect since several of my friends that have had back surgery seem to be frequent flyers to the OR once you start down that path. With that said, Dr. Barnett was very honest and said he could do a fusion on me, but with my anatomy it had about a 60-70% chance of helping by lower back pain. His other suggestions were to stretch more, build up the core more, and maybe some PT and chiro work. I appreciate he was not the doc I sometimes see in my world that's quick to pull a surgical blade for RVUs/profitable procedures. I respect his advice and am happy I chose to see him with my MRI. In my experience of 20+ years in surgery sales, the more clarity and physician opinions you gather for your situation, the better your outcomes will be by making better choices on your options. read more

Great Surgeon! Highly recommend! I had a sciatica issue in my back for a while and finally gave up on it going away and physical therapy was not helping. I met with Dr. Barnett and was recommended to get a Microdiscectomy and Laminectomy. The surgery was performed and I feel like I should have done the surgery a long time ago. Great Experience. I went to visit with Dr. Barnett who was mentioned to me by a Dr. I work with for severe back pain that came out of nowhere 1/20/21 I missed the rest of that week of work. Was able to get appt. the following Tuesday. His front desk staff were pleasant as well as his nurse who saw me before he did.Upon meeting him there was this calmness I had as he walked in, introduced himself and we visited regarding my concerns. Although in pain he was willing to guide me to found out what was going on. After MRI and Epidural Lumbar injection for my Herniated Disk by Dr. Noe from UTSW did not relieve the pain, Surgery was my next option after seeing Dr. Barnett again. He was confident that this surgery would relieve my pain and that I would be back on my feet in 3-4 weeks. I had a talk with God and agreed to the surgery. The morning of surgery Dr. Barnett prayed with my daughter and I which was a True Blessing. The surgery was a success and so was recovery. I am1 month out back at work with limited duties and Grateful to God daily for Dr. Barnett talent. I would recommend him to anyone who ask me regarding a Neurosurgeon. I would give no stars but it wasn't an option. I had disk surgery with Dr. Barnett November 2022. After surgery I communicated with the nurse practitioner letting her know my back was better but very stiff and still painful and I had sciatica pain going down the left leg from the lower back even after the surgery. My leg is also numb and goes out on me when walking at times. The message from the nurse was it takes time to heal give it time. finally after 1 year and 1/2 I said I have to get some help with this and she referred me to another doctor who she said could help me with my sciatica. He suggested we get an new MRI to see how things looked since my surgery. The report looked like it had some issues that weren't present on the report prior to surgery. I set up an appointment to talk to Dr. Barnett since he did the surgery to see if I could get an explanation of the report and find out what he would recommend to help with my issues. Immediately he was walking in the door very defensive saying what a successful surgery I had and he did a great job for me. Why would I be coming back. He kept weirdly repeating he's done over 5000 successful surgeries (he kept repeating that even as I was leaving the office) He also kept saying he takes care of his patients, that was for the people in the waiting room to hear. I never said anything about the success or unsuccessful surgery just my current issues. He was so arrogantly offended that I would be coming back with any issues and didn't even want to listen or take time to understand how I was feeling and barely looked at the MRI. He talked over me and kept repeating his same obviously rehearsed jargon. I have never had a doctor or anyone really, speak so arrogantly and condescending to me, I'm just there asking for help. He was so nice before the surgery and seemed so caring he's a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde don't be fooled. Clearly he doesn't care about his patients, after your insurance pays, he's done with you, take your problems elsewhere. He must be in denial that he could possibly have some surgeries that aren't successful. In my meeting only he and I were in the room and the way he spoke to me so uncaring and unprofessional. Was it because I'm a women he thought he could talk down to me and over me and no one else would hear and he thought I didn't deserve to be treated respectfully. I just sat there packed up my purse and left couldn't get a word in so I didn't try to talk anymore. Don't put your life in this mans hands he literally doesn't care what happens to you. I'm sure he has successful surgeries but don't take a chance that yours may not be. read more

January 2006 Dr. Barnett was listed as a Chiari Specialist on the WACMA (World Arnold Chiari Malformation Association) Doctor's List for Texas. What a JOKE. At first I was going to nickname him "Mr.D" since he was featured a couple of times in D Magazine as one of the best doctors in Dallas... but then within a month or so, I figured out that the D really stood for "Dumbass" At first, the appointment was going well. He really made me feel better when he looked at the Excel Spreadsheet I had brought that listed all of the medications that I have been on since August. He looked at the list, looked at me, looked back at the list and said point blank, "How in the world are you functioning?" To which I replied "Not very well." It was then he referred me to Dr. Herzog and Dr. El-Feky He sent me for my 4th set of MRIs in as many months. Once those MRI films came back, I went in for a follow up appointment... and this is when my perspective of Dr. Barnett took a 180 degree turn and a was caught in a downward spiral straight to Hell. He literally told me to "Go See A Shrink." The problem is when you have a rare medical condition... there are many doctors who do not know anything about it. Instead of admitting it, they make you feel stupid. Dr. Barnett claimed my 8mm herniation was not big Cerebral Tonsil Ectopia. Apparently he never heard that the Experts at The Chiari Institute in New York proved that the length of the herniation was not a reliable criteria for diagnosis and even a 1mm herniation could benefit from a posterior fossa decompression. Dr. Barnett is the only surgeon that I met with who was honest and optimistic that he could help me. I only wish I had had my surgery sooner before trying all other non surgical options with another Dr at UT Southwestern because they were treating the wrong issue and did more damage. Dr Barnett is kind and was straightforward with his prognosis from the first time I met with him. I had multiple issues and had been in immense pain for over a year. The surgery was 100% success. He has performed surgery on my husband and friends who have also had successful results. I trust him and highly recommend him. read more

We had a bilateral fusion with Dr. Barnett. The surgery was a disaster. Massive internal bleeding, a giant hematoma formed which caused further complications, and then the scar became infected. Afterwards we visited Dr. Barnett with some questions and he as a complete ass. He was insulted we dared to ask him follow up questions about an MRI. Before surgery he was really nice, and he did tell us the surgery may not cure all of my wife's problems. We were willing to accept that. However, for the surgery to be such a disaster, and for the incredibly dismissive and rude treatment on follow up I can not recommend Dr. Barnett or Baylor for surgery. Don't go, as soon as they are done billing your insurance company they are done with you. read more

My Doctor recommended Dr Barnett for issues I'm having with my back. I don't downplay the fact that I've had to cancel and reschedule 2 times and for this I apologize, however we all have lives to live and things come up, especially when you are in my line of work. The second time I had to cancel I called the office and they had no problem rescheduling, however shortly after this I received a call back from Dr. Barnett's office saying they are so sorry, but Dr Barnett will not allow me to reschedule and therefore I cannot be one of his patients. I guess if he had good ratings I would be more upset, however this is not the case. Good luck in all that you do Dr Barnett and thank you! Three years ago, I was diagnosed with Arnold-Chiari malformation. I had suffered for years with debilitating headaches and neurological symptoms. My husband is a physician who has been in practice for 30 years and has only seen these rare brain condition twice during that time. The second time being his own wife. You can imagine he only wanted the very best taking care of his wife and began the hunt for the best. During my first appointment with Dr. Barnett, I found a level of knowledge regarding my rare condition we had not seen with other physicians. He took the time to fully explain in detail to my husband and I the surgery, the hospital stay, and the length recovery process. Dr. Barnett was very honest with me, the patient, regarding what to expect so I could make a fully informed decision. During my examination, Dr. Barnett also felt the MRI of my head did not fully explain all of my symptoms and ordered additional studies. These additional studies revealed a fully herniated disc in my cervical spine which would require an additional surgery. I had my brain surgery in December of 2010. This surgery was not a picnic but the compassion from Dr. Barnett, his P.A. Jennifer and the hospital staff was so appreciated and made the worst days tolerable. You never appreciate good bedside manner in a doctor until you are on the receiving end. My next surgery was 18 months later and again I had a surgeon with the best surgical skills, compassion, and great personality. I have spent a lot of time at appointments with Dr. Barnett, Jennifer, and his staff. They are always delightful, helpful, and I leave every time knowing I had the best care. After having an MRI, and being diagnosed with severe spinal stenosis, I thoroughly researched all the top Neurosurgeons in the U.S who performed Micro-surgery and made the decision to see Dr David Barnett. Dr Barnett was very thorough in examining my MRI, and at that stage conservatively recommended I try some non-invasive procedures first. After the second visit he asked if I would also like to get a second opinion to confirm his findings. This made me realize I had chosen an exceptional doctor; and after seeing a Neurologist of my choosing Dr. Barnett's opinion was confirmed to be very accurate. Dr.Barnett was pleasant and easy to talk to and thoroughly answered all my questions throughout the process. I phoned his office many times during pre-surgery testing, as I had the test done closer to my home, and I found his staff to be very patient and helpful. The results of my surgery could not have been better; and I am so thankful I decided to travel the extra distance, and take the extra time, to have a true professional like Dr. Barnett perform my back surgery. read more

Dr. David Barnett did a Lumbar Microdiscectomy on me and it turned out GREAT! I thought he and his staff were knowledgeable, compassionate, friendly and never made me feel like I was a bother when I called to ask questions. Dr. Barnett explained the procedure to me in full detail and left the decision up to me, unlike some doctors who are just wanting to cut on you to cut on you. I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have went to Dr. Barnett for a second opinion on my spine. Before I went, I read every single one of his reviews and researched his background. And all of those great reviews are 100% true. Dr Barnett is very compassionate, you can tell right away that he really cares about you and the best treatment option for you (and not his business). He doesn't rush in and out. After being told by a surgeon in Frisco that I needed surgery, Dr. Barnett told me that my condition is nowhere near needing surgery right now.
