Yesterday, I visited the wellness center in Fort Worth to meet with the medical staff, Doctor…read moreStacy, NP Mary, and NP Aimée, and I ended up having a 30-minute deep tissue massage with Eduardo. I can't thank Doctor Stacy enough for suggesting it. I have been there before and appreciate the staff. The atmosphere is easygoing and calm. People are helpful without hovering, friendly when needed, and present if you ask. Sometimes it is enough to walk into a place, be treated well, and not have to work to be okay for someone else. Yesterday morning, I was carrying something heavy inside. I call it psychic pain because I do not have another word for it. It is not exactly sadness, anxiety, grief, or exhaustion, though it can contain parts of each. This pain sits between thought and feeling. I can do what I need to do while it is there: work, talk to people, answer messages, make decisions. From the outside, nothing looks unusual. Inside, my mind is trying to get away from itself. I know that tendency. When something hurts too much, my mind moves. It goes into the future or returns to the past. It analyzes, rehearses conversations, and tries to understand things that may not make sense. Sometimes it starts solving problems that do not exist. Thinking becomes an escape. I am present physically, but mentally I am somewhere else. I felt the stress in my body as Eduardo began the massage. I had not arrived thinking about my shoulders, back, or muscles. As he applied pressure, my attention shifted from my thoughts to my body. Some places hurt, and I realized how tense I had become without noticing. As he continued, my attention shifted to what Eduardo was doing. I felt the pressure of his hands, the resistance in my muscles, and where they began to release. I noticed my breathing and the table beneath me. I caught myself tensing before he even reached certain areas. These small physical sensations were enough to interrupt the noise in my head. For once, my mind was not deciding where I needed to be. I was present. Eduardo did not need to know what was happening in my life. I did not have to explain why I felt the way I did. There was nothing to analyze. He worked on my body, and my body responded. I spend much of my life thinking. It is part of my work and part of who I am. I watch people, listen, and make connections. I notice what is said and what is not said, in others and in myself. Most of the time, this is useful. Sometimes I overthink, and my mind keeps turning over the same things long after there is anything left to learn. During those 30 minutes, I did not need another insight. I just wanted to feel my body. The pressure kept bringing me back. My thoughts would drift, and then another sensation would return me to my body. I wasn't telling myself to be mindful or stay in the moment. That would have turned it into another mental task. When my mind moved toward something painful, I felt Eduardo working on another tense area, and my attention returned to what was happening. I was not trying to accomplish anything. I was there long enough for my mind to slow down. The psychic pain did not disappear. I do not want to suggest that 30 minutes of massage erased what I carried. What changed was my relationship to the pain. Before, it felt overwhelming and took up too much space inside. Afterward, it was still present, but it was not everything. That difference mattered. I could feel pain and also feel Eduardo's hands on my back. I could have difficult thoughts and still notice my breathing. I could carry something unresolved and feel my muscles begin to loosen. One experience did not cancel the other. They existed together. That is what being present means for me. It is not a perfect state where difficult thoughts disappear. My mind does not work that way, and I am not sure I would trust it if it did. Being present means I do not have to follow every thought when it tries to take me somewhere. I can notice what is happening without leaving myself. At the end of the massage, I felt different. Not transformed or suddenly free from what was bothering me. I just felt more like myself. My body was less tense, and my mind was no longer racing. I could feel where I was. Thirty minutes is not a long time, which is probably why the experience stayed with me. I can waste 30 minutes without noticing, reading things I don't need, answering things that could wait, thinking about something for the hundredth time, or worrying about a future that hasn't come. Thirty minutes with Eduardo changed how I spent the rest of the day. The physical experience of being cared for affected me more than I expected. It is easy to forget how tiring it is to think, decide, help, manage, respond, and hold things together. During the massage, I was not responsible for anyone else's experience. I did not have to produce anything. Eduardo knew what he was doing, and for half an hour I could stop. I walked out of the wellness center and noticed

The…read morenurses and physicians are all experienced and good at patient care, but the administration is absolutely awful. The check in procedure is terrible and completely inefficient. Both times I've been seen my appointments started over an hour late. This time, I checked in online the day prior to my appointment, yet I still had to wait in a 30 minute line just to let the clinic know I was present, and my appointment still started over an hour late. NTACHC constantly seems to be short staffed. I wanted to give them another shot, simply because the care is good and I support NTACHC's mission, but I will not be coming again in the future.

If you are looking for a job in healthcare, do not come here…read more If you are looking for great, unbiased care, do NOT come here. If you are not a white cisgendered male or a cisgendered Hispanic woman, do NOT come here. Very racist, elitist, and classist undertones. Do NOT come here, if you do not wish to be medically gaslighted, racially profiled, treated like a medical experiment (except if you are one of the demographics mentioned above). They are horribly staffed, horribly trained, not adequately stocked, and very biased. It is a very cult-like culture, where older staff can abandon trainees to room patients (after they've waited an hour +, without any updates or communication from staff). I was advised that if I complained about the lack of assistance, or the unnecessarily long wait times, I myself could be written up. The doctors are very condescending to staff (talking AT ME like I am dumb) and absolutely to patients, especially if there is a language barrier. If you are African American (or of African descent), expect no interaction or any patient education from the staff. Not even eye contact. You will be handed your fee ticket and very coldly told to go check out. Then they will chat about your visit and health status to anyone who works there. Even African American staff is mistreated. UNLESS you are able to speak Spanish, you will be talking to yourself. This place has a reputation for walking people out within days of employment, however the staff that are still employed are UNPROFESSIONAL, unknowledgeable, biased, and will not help do a thing to improve the clinic flow!!! I walked on eggshells daily, and was gaslighted by others who were less experienced than me. They need the help in a major way, but they refuse to employ anyone who does not meet the aesthetic they wish to attract at any facility. As a woman of color, EACH time I walked into the Northside clinic, it was as if everyone in the building had seen a ghost! I was stared at from the time I walked in the doors, until I made it back to my car. It was until I spoke Spanish that the strange treatment stopped. The whispering stopped. There are genuinely nice people there, but they are talked about as well. Management talks about each other, and staff talks about other staff- in the presence of management. The nursing staff speaks badly on the patients, who sometimes don't have any other care outside of NTACHC. The medical assistants brag about not switching out needles when they draw\administer meds in a syringe. So they jab the patients and cause pain, with minimal to no explanation, and it's been acceptable. Expired testing supplies sit in the cabinets being used with the current materials. The baseboards all collect dust, and staff is not taught to clean the rooms correctly, especially with the Covid numbers increasing. The gynecologist at Southeast tests vaginal fluids under a microscope with no gloves on his hands, and has a predatory spirit. He basically does whatever he pleases, and they ask the staff to accommodate him, because he is one of the few willing to work there. Patients are waiting MONTHS to receive their lab results and further instructions-unless they are critical labs. That is not good at all. They test the patients for Covid with NO PPE to protect themselves. Just gloves and a mask, if that. They make the patients wait for long periods of time in their cars, if they came for Covid testing. I have observed staff watch the screen/schedule for patients and refuse to help, unless it was for their own provider. It is like a silent standoff between staff until someone from up front comes back to notify them about the patient still waiting. They offer the patients no apology or appreciation for the wait, when they could have chosen to go somewhere else. Bu they have a rapport with the clinic. For a place that prides itself in holding up a standard, those standards are clearly doubled. What is good for the goose is definitely NOT good for the gander. It shows. Upper management gossips about employees to their favorites. Bad news travels fast through a small company, & a blind eye is always turned to the things that would be a big deal if they were operated by JCAHO. Higher management is too involved in lower management matters to STILL not have better resolutions in place for staff to remain employed there. If you have a concern, in most cases, it is met with disdain, lack of interest, and generic responses. They do not care at all. It shows on their faces, and their responses are almost ALWAYS biased. After work, I went to a public place in my uniform on. A young lady saw me and asked me about my experience there. She, as well as many more shared my same experience. She warned me beforehand, but I wanted to stick it out because I know they needed the help. Earlier, I had read more of the horrible reviews, and was shocked at how many of them are still the same issues years later. It was confirmation. Sad.
