He told me I had way more cavities than I actually did, and when filling my cavities, he made it very painful. I felt very tense and unrelaxed. At the end of the day, they are just plain rude there and just want your money. My son Dillan was home from college and was having discomfort from wisdom teeth growing in. Dr. Urich made sure to get Dillan in and he had all 4 pulled that same day! Dillan was well cared for and Dr. Urich checked in with him the evening of the procedure to make sure he was feeling ok. The recovery has been amazing! I am highly disappointed with the practice of Dr Urich. He had been recommended by an acquaintance so I was not as skeptical of him/his practice as I should have been. I wish I had read before the review from the person that mentioned the "cleaning procedure" scam. We had the same thing happen to us. Both, myself and my husband went to see him, and after our regular cleaning, we were told we needed a "deep cleaning" because of gingivitis, etc. My husband decided to go ahead, and they told us that they would inquire with the insurance company about approval and they told us it would be covered. A couples of weeks after the procedure, we were told that the insurance declined to pay, and now we have to pay the doctor around $1000 dollars for a cleaning that took less than one hour to complete! My husband asked the office for their help in appealing to the insurance, but the insurance declined on the basis that it had not been demonstrated that he had any gingivitis. We talked to the office and asked them for a discount, hoping to get at least a reasonable rate, not the "insurance billable rate", and they said no. We are not going to this doctor ever again! read more

I've never had cavity issues until I saw him and all of a sudden I had 6?? Went for a second opinion elsewhere and its safe to say I won't be going back to Urich. I've gotten bad advice from other dentists and am glad I met David as he was able to spot things in my teeth that could have possibly been really bad if not treated. Very poor customer service. The admin basically lied to me about my coverage (led me to to believe that the procedure was covered, which was not the case). I had to pay out of my pocket in the end. Also, extremely expensive. They tried to claim $950 for a 1.5 hour cleaning procedure. Outrageous!! read more

Dr Urich was able to save a tooth which had a crown and I was told by another dentist it had to be replaced with a new crown. Dr Urich was able to save the tooth and offered to perform the services that afternoon and saved me the time and money I would've had to pay for a new crown. That is caring! read more

I went to Dr. Urich from around late 2004 to 2008. I wish Yelp was around back then. I trusted him and believed him and paid a fortune to him for many procedures which I now know were not necessary. After he decided to replace a crown put in properly by another dentist I got the feeling he was just selling me on procedures that were not necessary. Of course his crown fell out and to a high degree damage the remainder of the tooth. He refused to stand behind his work and only tried to sell me on more procedures. Stay away. There are many better dentists than Dr. Urich. read more

We had recently moved to Solana Beach from Seattle, and my husband tried Dr. Urich. After a thorough review of our insurance, Dr. Urich told him that he had 16 cavities that needed to be filled. Thankfully, he got a second opinion from my dentist (who has been practicing for 40 years in Del Mar). My dentist, who was totally unaware of the prognosis from Urich, told him his teeth were very strong and that he did not have any cavities that needed to be filled. Definitely get a second opinion if this dentist wants to start drilling into your teeth. read more

Dr Urich is nice office staff is nice. However, it is a very typical UPSELL. Must replace fillings, maybe you need this, maybe that.... Insurance covers preventative 100% including 2 cleanings per year (must be scheduled 180 days apart). His staff routinely schedules cleanings every 3-4 months which means insurance won't cover. Call Dr. Urich. "Nothing I can do, you need to speak with the technician". I moved on. read more

I went through a few area doctors before I settled on Dr. Urich. I found him to be the most pleasant, upfront, and most professional in the area. I now live in Orange County, but travel south just for dental work. I have had no problems with billing etc. Sad that the other customers had billing problems, but that seems to be the problem with some insurance companies these days. I know that the cost/hour of medical care can seem extreme for most, but from owning my own businesses, I know that the cost of insurance etc. (and his medical training) is expensive, and unfortunately has to be shared by the customer. That said, the dental care I received was great, and as painless as (one would think) it could be. read more

Great dentist. Been going for years without any issues whatsoever. Never had any billing issues only great dental work and several laughs. It seems that people with bad or no insurance complain about scams etc. I suspect they'd have similar problems with other dentists with their sketchy insurance plans. Read between the lines. This review comes wayyyy too late but I have been wanting to write it ever since I left the office. The dentist fills cavities that don't need to be filled. He does this to make more money. I've had one cavity my whole life and then went to see this doctor and he told me I had 7! I hadn't been to a dentist in a while so I was in shock... felt like I needed to get this problem taken care of right away. I have great insurance and they knew that it wasn't coming out of my pocket so they basically maxed out my allowance for the year and that was as much work as they told me I needed to get done. I did not realize any of this and let him fill my cavities and went on with my day. I later called a friend of mine who works in insurance and she told me he does this to everyone and that I should have never gone to him. Apparently more people know this but they just don't yelp! C'mon people! I feel like I got scammed and it's a terrible feeling. There are no reviews on here and I am not even sure he is still in business. Makes sense if that's his business model. Find a different doctor with integrity and honesty! I have never been back and would not recommend him to anyone. read more

Always trying to upsell things, quoted reduculous amounts. What I was told I would be responsible for was different than what I was billed for. Very heavy rough handed. Paid for a procedure and after insurance was billed i got a bill for a couple hundred more bucks. Office manager is impossible to work with. Went to another dentist rated much higher on yelp and everything is half as much out of pocket, no upselling, told I only need half the work done that Urich told me. read more

Omg this place tried to rip me (and my insurance company) off! I went there thinking that it must be half-way decent and I was completely wrong. I went in for one thing and was told I had a whole wallet full of problems. It was just a consultation (thank god) but after all was said and done, they told me that the total amount of work would be around 4k. WHAT? I went to another dentist that a friend recommended and he looked at the estimate and laughed. He said that not only was it wrong, but most of the stuff they recommended were procedures not even possible to do (scaling on my gums, etc.) RIP OFF. Stay away from this place!!! read more
