I decided to get a couple of repair estimates through Yelp with California Air Control being one of the companies I reached out to since they repaired my HVAC before. Jake showed up with his tool backpack and gauges ready. He diagnosed the issues and said the outdoor unit's capacitor needed to be replaced and recommended adding a hard start unit. The other HVAC company's repairman came with just a couple of tools in his hands and had to walk back and forth to his truck to get his other tools. He took longer to diagnose the issue and recommended I replace the entire unit. My wife and I decided we weren't ready for a new HVAC unit and have California Air Control repair the old HVAC unit. Joe came by the next day to repair the unit. He was patient with answering my questions and recommended that I look into replacing the HVAC unit since it's close to 20 years old. When the Big Beautiful Bill was passed in early July 2025 that would terminate the Energy Efficient Home Improvement tax credit (Section 25C) by the end of 2025, my wife and I decided it was time to replace our old HVAC unit with a new heat pump system that would qualify for the $2K tax credit. I sent out estimate requests via Yelp to a couple of companies with California Air Control being one of them since they are trusted and reliable. I specifically stated I needed the heat pump models to meet the IRS's stated CEE efficiency standards and AHRI numbers to qualify for the tax credit. One company didn't listen and suggested I get an older inexpensive heat pump model and keep my old furnace. Jake from California Air Control listened and worked with his supplier to make sure my heat pump model qualified for the tax credit. His price estimate was also reasonable compared to the other companies. In early August, my wife and I decided to go with California Air Control for our new heat pump system and new duct replacement. This was during the heat wave and our old HVAC unit had a metal burning smell. It unfortunately died on us at the wrong time while we were waiting to get out new heat pump installation in late August. With three young kids, it was difficult for them to sleep at night. Jake and California Air Control was able to take care of my family and Joe came by to fix the old HVAC unit while we waited for the new heat pumps. As we got closer to the installation date, Jake realized my new heat pump was too big for my house because the newer heat pumps were stronger and more efficient so I didn't need a 4 ton heat pump and suggested I get a 3 ton. I did some Google research, agreed on the decision, and got a price reduction because of the lower tonnage. Abraham, Jose, and Carlos are a group of cool guys that installed the new heat pump system in three days. Jake also dropped by once in a while to check on the project to make sure it was going according to plan. I really appreciate the visits because I can't be a project manager and check on their work while working full time. Overall, California Air Control is a very trustworthy and reliable company and I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

I called a few AC shops and the wait time was 2-3days for an appointment, which given the blazing heat, made total sense to me. I called Harry around 3pm and he mentioned that he was in a Pasadena area and would be happy to swing by my house in South Pasadena later that evening, after his all day AC job in the blazing heat! The fact that he was able to do a house visit at 7pm blew me away! He immediately recognized that my AC unit was overheating as I had a bunch of trellis around it ... he was 100% honest, just straight up told me that your unit is overheating and get all that junk off of it and it'll work fine!!!
