For those with young children, you'll appreciate the two separate play structures tailored to different age groups as well as the gigantic grassy field perfect for field games and picnics. The play structures include a number of modalities like swings, small slides, and climbing structures. The flooring is tan bark so be careful with splinters. Those looking for an outing to hang out or share food can take advantage of the many picnic tables and barbecue pits scattered around the park. Trash cans are also readily available so needless to say, the park is quite clean. Most of the tables sit under trees so you'll be shaded from the beating sun most times of the day. They also have a small, well-maintained basketball court with nice nets for a pickup game. I've rarely seen anyone playing so if you do come with your own crew, you'll have some private time to yourselves. Street parking is available but if you drive further in, you'll be able to make use of their parking lot. There are some small shaded areas in the lot and plenty of spaces. Overall, Birch Grove Park checks all the boxes for park goers and it seems the city does a great job to maintain it so it'll hopefully continue to be for years to come!

We've gone usually in the mid-morning and it's not crowded at all. Families or groups are setting up for their parties. Otherwise it's a great neighborhood park.

Although there doesn't seem to be a dedicated parking lot, it neighbors a school that does have a lot and there are plenty of spots along the street. The road isn't too busy but there are occasional cars that roll through to commute between parts of Fremont. The playground itself boasts a multitude of modalities including climbing structures (rock wall, ladders, stairs, rope), monkey bars/rings, and slides. Based on the height and strength needed for some of the activists, I would say children between the ages of 4 and 12 would have a good time. The flooring is padded rubber so it's easy on the feet and falling children. The play area is surrounded by a raised concrete wall that is just wide enough to be used as a balance beam. Do take care, however, as the flooring outside the barrier is concrete so it isn't the most safe activity area. The field is huge and has large areas for soccer, kickball, soccer and other field sports. The grass is kept pretty short and it's decently maintained. There may be some uneven spots but for the most party, they've been filled. Overall, Blacow Park is conveniently located near schools and shopping malls which makes it a great spot for a quick break, and the size of the space is suitable for a larger gatherings. The field is certainly a highlight due to its vacancy but the playground is great as well due to its variety of activities and being upkept.

The walkway is quite nice and winds around and through different elevations, its much larger than it looks. Right now mustards are blooming and its very nice, the walkway also brings you to redwoods, etc...At the very far end where the bench is you can proceed onto a dirt path that goes under two huge power line towers like a scene from a movie. There is also a path on the right which leads to the closest connected neighborhood. The kids and I like this walkway a lot and enjoy it more than the standard injection molded playset. No parking lot, you can park at the school next to it or the street. Best to come early morning to avoid the crowds. We like coming here over the playgrounds at Central Park since its less crowded.

The only downside we've noticed is this past year these really large thorn weeds/plants would scatter their thorns all over the playground and park walkways making it a virtual minefield for our stroller and shoes. We've had to replace or patch our tires multiple times because of this. Would be great if there was a way to completely get rid of these harmful plants.

There are a couple of picnic benches but only some have a shelter over it. I wish all the benches had a shelter over it for the summer heat and for the bugs. One day I sat on the bench beneath the tree and caterpillars kept falling on me. Due to the few tables that do have shelter, it is a first come first serve. During the school day this place is rather empty and makes a neat jogging route or place to chill with friends. However, during the weekend or after school hours you can find the place filled with families spending time with their children on the playground, students hanging out after school, or baseball practice. The park is located by a neighborhood and school so it isn't near anywhere shady. However, you can still find homeless using the restrooms every now and then but not as much as you would at Lake Elizabeth. My biggest concern with the park is the restroom. I do not have high standards for park restrooms but this one was especially filthy the times I went and lacks lighting. Often times the toilets are already clogged when I'm there, no more toilet paper, and just stinks. I went once as it was getting dark and it was concerning how dark the restroom was too. I could not see into the bigger stall and it had me feeling anxious. I ended up leaving the restroom and holding it in for home instead. I've ran into homeless many times in park restrooms so whenever I go into a restroom by myself I can't help but be cautious. Not saying that homeless people are bad BUT my concern is you never know how someone is going to act. Homeless or not, I don't feel comfortable not being able to see someone and what they're doing for my safety. My fear was if someone was hiding in the big stall in the dark. I think it is important for facilities to have better lighting especially for moments like these where it's getting dark. Despite this issue, the park is decent and I always enjoy watching the sky and taking photos of it when I'm here.

Squirrels are found running around the park which my dogs seem to hate. But they are quick and run up the trees by the time my dogs notice them. I like that the area is really green and quiet. It's tucked behind some homes but really easy to find.
