Max died in an incredibly traumatic and likely painful way -- and it haunts us. Eagles Peak in Robesonia performed surgery on Max to treat a bleeding splenic mass. Dr. Mike reassured me that the splenectomy could potentially extend his life significantly. I had hesitations, but after those reassurances, I agreed. I dropped Max off for surgery the next morning. We were told the surgery was successful. Max was brought out to us shortly after 11:30 AM, visibly bleeding from his incision. When asked about the bleeding, the staff said some drainage was normal. Max was so weak he had to be carried to the car. Within 15 minutes of getting home, Max was nonresponsive. Blood poured from his surgical site and covered the car. He was bleeding internally so heavily that the blood forced its way through the incision. We rushed him to an emergency vet, but he had lost too much blood. He had to be euthanized within an hour of being discharged. We were never told that 24/7 monitoring is standard after a splenectomy. We weren't offered transfer to a facility that could provide that. The emergency vet expressed concern that Max had been sent home so soon. Had we known what was typical for a case like this, we never would've taken him home. We've had no follow-up call, no expression of sympathy, and no answers. We were left to clean blood out of the car while trying to explain to our son why our dog died in pain. If you're looking for a vet that truly communicates all options and offers clear, compassionate guidance -- we urge you to consider that experience may vary. We are devastated and regret the outcome deeply.

Oh how we wish we had know about Dr Heather before. She is a combination of a goddess and an angel, with the education and experience to make her the epitome of what a vet should be. Her clinic squeezed us in during a very busy time, because we were frantic, yet we were treated with incredible compassion and respect. All of the staff there channel this kind of professionalism, which shows what good leadership and management do. They can do x-rays in house and immediate blood work, which is important in critical situations, and sometimes it is hard to know how fast things can become critical. (Make sure your own vet can do this!) Dr. Heather is the kind of person who will take in disabled and needy animals into her own home and give them a chance when no one else would. She has a background of shelter and rescue work. The clinic stayed open hours later to help us find a way to take our kitty home. When nothing worked, they helped us to make the right decision to let her go and cried with us at this unexpected tragedy. Maybe you heard the sobbing and wailing from your house. Feline leukemia is a terrible thing. :-(

Prior to meeting Dr. Davis, my experience with vets was mostly them being very hands-off and not particularly thrilled to handle a scaredy cat. The very first time I met Dr. Davis and saw how she interacted with my cat, I was so touched. She spoke to her in a soft, sweet voice and wasn't afraid to touch or assess her. She handled my poor girl so gently and kindly. I knew I would never go anywhere else. The staff is also extremely kind and incredibly accomodating. They always got me in and while I sometimes had to wait a bit in the room before the doctor arrived, I also recognize that Dr. Davis took her time and provided thorough care to her patients. I never waited an unreasonable amount of time. The staff was very helpful in helping me get special food when I needed it and communicating about any changes in procedure to the office. The cost for care her is very reasonable and transparent. Anytime my cat had health issues, they were able to get us in relatively quickly. Doctor was also proactive in suggesting medications and care to improve my baby's quality of life as she reached her last few years and began to develop more health issues. On the day my poor girl became very ill, I called the office for an emergency visit. Dr. Davis was performing surgery on another animal, and the surgery was anticipated to continue for at least another hour or two. The staff told me they would talk to her and call me back. Within a few minutes, Dr. Davis called me herseld and explained apologetically that she would not be able to see my cat right away and based on her presentation, the doctor did not feel that my girl had the time to wait for her to become available. She was incredibly kind, soft, and compassionate while suggesting a differe t animal hospital. I took her advice and took my girl to the other hospital where she was taken care of promptly and treated very kindly and with dignity in her last moments of life. Even in the end, it was Dr. Davis's guidance that helped me give my cat a peaceful end instead of her suffering at home. I am beyond grateful for how my cat and myself were treated her and I hope to return to the practice when I'm ready for another pet. I would recommend this office to anyone.

So my 10 year old jumps up and goes to grab the leash and he says "SIT DOWN AND DO NOT TOUCH HER, your dog is a ticking time bomb. Look how she is growling at me, that's not normal. It's a small practice, as opposed to a multi Vet conglomerate, and I very much prefer taking my cats where we see the same Veterinarian at every visit. Over the years, he and his staff have always been professional, helpful, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Having no medical background of my own, I always ask a lot of questions; it's just my nature, and Dr. dePlanque has always taken the time to give me answers I can understand. I have never been disappointed in the care my cats received. Only because prices are so reasonable, could I afford to rescue, foster, and find good homes for so many cats and kittens over the years. They do not need marble columns, cathedral ceilings, and skylights. They simply need good care, and they get it. Year after year after year. I consider myself fortunate to have found the Dog and Cat Clinic and Dr. dePlanque. He and his staff are my cats' best friends, and I'm a forever client.
