Just wow... I went to David on the day of my wedding in Napa by the suggestion of our wedding coordinator. Being of African decent, I was a little unsure as to whether David would be able to style my hair the way I wanted. Boy, was I surprised! He knocked it out of the park, do you hear me? He took so much time to discuss the style I was looking for. I had a full head of extensions installed before coming to David, and during the creation process, he asked for my input all along the way. He has an attention to detail that I've not seen in any of my usual stylists back in Houston. On top of that, he is very nice, professional and seems to care so much about his clients. David did my hair for my wedding and he has also done color for me as well. He is great at both. One thing he is really great at is figuring out what you want, and working patiently with you until you find it. When figuring out a hairstyle for my wedding, I really wasn't sure what I wanted to do-up? down? curls? straight? He has a lot of experience in this area, so he asked about my dress, and brought up things I never would have thought to consider. We tried a couple different looks but nothing settled but he was totally patient the whole time. We finally found something that worked perfectly. It is a little hard to find, across from a cemetery....last time I went there was no sign or anything out front, I think it is supposed to be like that on purpose. On the day of my wedding, he brought another 2 hairdressers and also arranged for my makeup. Most of my bridesmaids and my mother and mother-in-law got their hair done and everyone was happy. David is also great with color. He is very up on the newest techniques and trends which is nice-since I have no idea what they are! I might want my hair to look like Gisele's hair, but he can tell me if that is realistic and exactly the cut and color she got in that photo and what we need to do to get there. When you are with David, you get a feeling that you are on the same team together, working toward a common goal which is nice. So my girlfriend and I live in Santa Rosa, and she has been having an awful time finding a stylist in town that is worth what they charge for a haircut. That was putting nicely. Anyway, I was having dinner with my sister and the subject came up. She reminded me that she gets her haircut in Napa by a rock star stylist named David Magna. For me, it's long way to go for a stylist but it seemed that my girl was over having mediocre experiences locally, and was willing to go to any lengths for fantastic frocks, so, I booked an appointment... We arrived a few minutes early and while sitting in the car my beau looked at me and said "this guy better be good"... I wasn't worried, my sister's hair always looks fabulous. David is a charismatic personality and is just all around uber-cool guy, but not pretentious. The first thing he said when my girlfriend sat in his chair was "how can we make you anymore beautiful". It was obvious to him that she was slightly apprehensive and his calm confidence reassured both of us that he was king of his domain. She explained her hair type, the things she liked about her current style, and the vision she had for it's evolution. He listened very carefully and shared his thoughts about her concerns and how he would integrate a solution into her cut. Then he got into more specific goals for her style by clarifying several details and offering options regarding the length of her bangs (for example) and used descriptive analogies that she could relate to. Like - "if we cut the bangs like this it will result in an edgier look, like Betty Page" . It was evident by the way he spoke about hair, that he is a passionate stylist... A cut above the rest, no pun intended. All of his attention to detail - getting to know a first time client quickly, his ability to generate trust, his cool way of setting clients at ease and making them feel pampered, and his entertaining personality, were all very impressive... he had yet to cut a single strand of hair ! The hair cut was phenomenal. My gf was stunned. She kept saying "I never thought my hair could look like this". For the first 30 minutes of the ride home she kept opening the sun visor, looking at her hair in the mirror, closing it, then reopening, and saying " i just can't believe it"! This literally happened like ten times. It put a smile on my face. Needless to say, she booked her next appointment before leaving the workshop. I am sooo happy that we made the trip David Magna's Workshop. It was well worth the 40 minute drive from Santa Rosa. I had a destination wedding in Napa and had no idea who to use for my hair. I found David on Yelp and after numerous emails (I was living in LA at the time) we finally set a trial for when I moved to the East Bay. All I can say is that David is a true artist. He takes into account the theme of your wedding, your dress, your make up and your personality. I brought him a TON of looks I was considering and we talked through each ones pros and cons before deciding on the one that was just right for me! He took two hours during my consult to discuss everything and do my trial, and even kept my extensions after the appt. so he could prep them before the day of the wedding to save time. He's VERY busy so don't be discouraged if he doesn't get back to you right away, he's worth it. My hair looked fabulous ALL day! The workshop is just that, a quaint, beautiful space where he creates art for your hair. :) One of my bridesmaids and my mother got their hair done there as well, and they both loved it and looked beautiful. I didn't find his prices to be outrageous, but coming from LA I am used to paying a lot when it comes to my hair and on a day this important, you want a PRO! He was worth every penny! He also has a make up artist who does beautiful work, but I had already decided to do my own. Thank you David for making me look so beautiful on my wedding day! My husband & I come here for all our hair needs. Easy scheduling on-line. Never a wait. Decent prices. I'm an easy customer. I usually wear my hair in a bun or ponytail, but I want a cut that just looks good coming out of a hairband. My husband gets cut and highlighted and is there every two weeks. He likes David- doesn't come home with a bunch of product bottles he'll never figure out how to use just cuz the stylist recommended it, and he looks damn good even just out of the shower. Thank you for wasting and disrespecting my time! As a hopeful first time customer, I called to make and confirm an appointment for the following day to see the top stylist in the shop. I even received a nice email confirmation. I showed up for the appointment early only to wait for 20 min for the stylist to arrive (she was running errands). After asking about the delay, the receptionist finally decided to call the stylist to find out that she thought the appointment was for another day. How could it be that I wait for 20 min to get this info? And how could it be that it was only discovered when I asked? A couple of years ago I had long-ish hair and she gave me a short, A-line cut that just knocked it out of the park. I never received so many compliments. Now in the process of growing my hair out.. I visited David Magna Workshop for the first time recently and had highlights and a cut done with Brandyn. It was a great salon experience, everyone (stylists and clients alike) was relaxed and friendly, and Brandyn did a fabulous job with my hair. I'm naturally blonde but had been dyed brunette for over a year, and she gave me blonde highlights to begin to pull the brown color out - even with three-inch grown out roots, the color turned out awesome. And the haircut was the best I've had in years, mostly because she really knows her stuff when it comes to sideswept bangs! It took a couple of hours total, however it didn't seem like it because Brandyn was so friendly and easy to talk with, and genuinely seemed to enjoy the work. I planned my Napa Valley wedding from the East Coast and one of my biggest worries was finding a stylist to do my naturally curly hair. I did not want to be overly-styled with what I call "prom hair." I wanted to look like myself, but much better than I would do myself. Katy did my hair and did an amazing job.
