We have been customers of Freeman & Associates for the last four years. We use Freeman to file our personal taxes each year. I wish I could say our experiences with this firm were as good as the other six reviews but sadly I cannot recommend Steve Freeman nor his associate Bijayani. In summary: They screwed up a simple 1040 tax return. They miscalculated our refund and we found out in June it was actually $1,000 less from the IRS. They take no responsibility for the error. Instead they blame the IRS for changing the rules. They do not know how to send in an additional tax form properly according to IRS rules. They are evasive and do not follow-up or tell the complete truth about how they are handling our file. At every turn we have been treated like a number and "processed". Mr. Freeman has met with us once the first year and then he pawns off his clients to a random associate each year for tax prep. This year, we met with Bijayani in February to process our taxes and I went over each item that she needed. She insisted that we needed one more document which I emailed to her the next day. Nevertheless she failed to process the document with our taxes. After she originally submitted our file electronically and we waited a few weeks, we called them to find out why we haven't received our refund. The receptionist was rude and bluntly told us to just check the IRS website for status. Six weeks later (In April) we received an IRS letter. When I called Bijayani to discuss she told me she forgot to file the taxes properly and repeatedly apologized. She told me she faxed the missing document and I asked her to verify with the IRS that they received it. She refused to call them but said instead that she received a confirmation that the fax went through and the IRS will take 4-6 more weeks to issue our refund. We asked to speak with Steve Freeman and he gave my husband a song and dance excuse but no admittance of any wrong doing, no offer to rectify the issue, nothing. We had no choice but to trust that the document had been sent properly and was being processed by the IRS. We had checked on refund status with the IRS online numerous times seeing "processing" and another six weeks passed. At the end of May, we still had no refund, so another call to this business to find out from the receptionist that they were supposed to MAIL the document not fax it. They blamed the IRS changing rules (which they should expertly know) for the numerous errors processing one simple document that must be added to our file with the IRS. It is now almost mid-June and we are stuck waiting for a refund we wanted to use for our summer vacation. But summer is here now and we have not received it in 4 months when a properly filed electronic refund usually comes in 10 days. They last told me 2 weeks ago that they are going to mail the form into the IRS and we should get our refund in another 4 - 6 weeks. The straw that broke the camel's back was when I told them to have Steve call me and refund the $220 that we paid him to process our taxes. He did call back, left me a lame message and seemed to have a disinterested tone in his voice. I want my refund for the tax processing, I want my tax refund, and I never want to have contact with these people again. Unfortunately at the time of posting this review, I have no hope that they care about losing one customer. This is not the place for you if you want respect, reliability, accuracy, or if you want to build a relationship with an accountant who will personally handle your taxes from year to year.
