Over the 3 - 4 week project, Omar and his crew invariably left the place immaculate, no clutter, no mess. The answer to nearly ever request was "Yes, we can do that." While they are not cheap, the tab for all of the extras we asked for was fair. And we have no doubt that the work will hold up very well. I contacted 7 painters, heard back from 5, got quotes from 4, and selected J&M because they had the right answers, knew what they were doing, and offered the best value. If it sounds like they weren't the cheapest, that's true, because they used primer and two coats of the right paint where needed and did the prep the right way. When you're paying a large expense for your house, you want it done right so it will last and you don't have to do it again soon. They did a high quality job that I was very pleased with. The way to determine if the price is fair is to subtract the cost of materials and divide the remaining cost by the number of people-days it takes. From that perspective and from their quality of work, they were definitely the best deal and not worth doing the work myself. I'm glad I didn't because they knew more than I did and it turned out better. During the process, I observed all the work and asked a lot of questions. I like to hire technicians, not sales people. Technicians are honest, share information freely, and explain the principles. Marcos and his crew are definitely technicians that I trust. Nick arrived to provide an estimate for a repaint of a number of interior walls and trim, and to address a peeling paint problem on a bathroom ceiling painted by a different company, a few years ago. It wasn't resisting the high moisture environment created by the shower with marginal venting. Initially, what sold me on Nick, and Gibson & Son Painting, was Nick's manners and respect for my home. Before setting foot inside the front door, he removed his shoes. I hadn't said a word about it, and the floors that can be seen from where he stood are rustic slate (not carpeting). I had a couple of other painting contractors provide estimates previously. But none had demonstrated anything close to that kind of courtesy. A small thing, perhaps. But as it turned out, just a sample of good things to come, and of how he and his crew operate. Speaking of which, all members are exceptional in their own right. Also, Nick's attention to the details of the job, as we went over the scope of work, and his extensive knowledge of how to address potential problems, impressed me. He closely examined surfaces and their existing paint to determine the appropriate approach to achieve the best results. I have called them 5 times and they refuse to even come to my house and look at the problem. Lance told me it is my problem, not his! He said my wood is defective!? And he told me that and he has never even come back to look at the problem. He just refuses to come back and even look at it. I paid them $8500 to paint the house and once the check cleared they were gone for good. Terrible. Beware. 3/2/26 - I just read Lance's response to my review. He says the pictures I posted were from before he painted. Not true. I just posted an additional picture showing today's date from time.gov and you can see the quality of work I have on my house today. The fact is that Lance has never come to my house to see the quality of work his people did on my house. So, he has assumed I posted old pictures.
