Unfortunately, this add on review is not related to the work of this company. I last used them 7yrs ago & they went above & beyond. So I thought I'd update my review. My sinks/showers in my bathrooms became clogged late last night. I called Classic Drains due to my wonderful experience last time. James; I believe the owner answered the phone which I appreciated being it was 9:30 at night. I thought for sure I'd be leaving a message & hoping I'd get a prompt call back in the AM. When I explained the problem his first response was; "am I going to have to go on the roof? I'm 65 & I can't be doing that. The machine is 100+ pounds, I don't have anyone to help me. They quit, etc." When I told him I didn't know & that the last time I used them it wasn't due to this issue, and that's why I was calling HIM. he again repeated "well I can't be going on a roof." He did agree to come out & assess the problem the next afternoon. He said "it'll be $55 for me to come out & see what's wrong, but if I have to go on the roof I can't do it." That was third time he brought up not going on the roof. So to wrap up this review, James seems tired & not able to do what the job may entail anymore. I think, (sadly) I will have to find another plumbing company. I hope James can retire soon. read more

Tonight while I was at my hockey game, I got a call from my wife telling me our showers and toilets were backing up. Clearly that's what you wanna hear while you're driving home at 7pm and completely sweaty and sticky. She checked on yelp and found Classic Drains and told me about their reviews and ratings. I have to shower this filth off me so there was no choice.. we needed a plumber. We called and they said they'd be at our home within an hour. 25min later when I got home my wife told me they'd be here in 5min (yes, they gave us updates at to their arrival). When Brian got here, my man wasted not time at all. He got to work and fixed the problem. We have root intrusion in our lines and this is something we're going to have to deal with soon. The news wasn't the greatest, but my man was completely honest and upfront about the situation. What more could you ask for?! Brian fixed our problem quickly and professionally. Yesterday my wife was grinding artichoke leaves in the garbage disposal. At one point it clogged up so she unclogged it and threw what clogged it and what was left in the garbage. A couple hours later when she was washing dishes she noticed the sink in the garage backing up. I tried a few things to undo it but ultimately I knew I was going to need a plumber. I've used Classic Drains before so it was a no brainer to call James again, He answers my call and scheduled me an appointment in the 11 am to 1 pm window. Well he arrived at 10:07. He had the issue cleared, area cleaned up and himself off to the next job within a hour. Decent plumbers are hard to come by. James is a professional and as long as he's there he will always be our go to. read more

I called this plumbing company because they offered senior discounts I needed both my toilets snaked out with the electric snake to make sure everything was OK in my older home. The gentleman came, nice person, he was literally in the house for no more than 5 minutes. He came out carrying a hand snake contraption and charged me $155.00!! Yes, it was a Saturday but that was OK according to them. AND that was with the discount. I clearly, am in the wrong job. $155.00 for 5 minutes work??? Needed someone to unclog our toilet ASAP. It was a Sunday afternoon. Gave them a ring and after 30 minutes Brian returned my call saying that he'd be by in another two hrs. We got a few text messages keeping us posted; Brian also called giving a heads up. When he arrived, he promptly got to work. He was very friendly and seemed very knowledgeable about our situation. He remedied the problem easily, quickly, and bleached the area afterwards. Prices were surprising considering it was over the weekend and on call. Made a huge mess overflowing. I needed someone asap. I figured it was the main sewage line and sure enough it was. Called Classic that morning and fortunately they were available. Brian came promptly, they even texted a link that shows where he is coming from and est. time of arrival. He removed the toilet and snaked the line and cleared the plug quickly. Completely disgusted with James the owner of this company. My father who is 85 years old was hung up on when he tried to call the main number for the business and spoke with the owner. My father had an appointment that one of his employees made during the weekend. The owner was rude and did not want to even give my dad an estimate for the work his employee already quoted. Then the owner told my dad that there would be a travel charge from Salinas to North Monterey (Elkhorn Rd.) even though we live in the same County. When my father confirmed that one of his employees took some time out to stop by and take a look at the plumbing work the owner stated that they are not supposed to give out quotes unless he knows about it. He would not even agree to the quote that my father was given and when he stated that he was a Veteran and a Senior the owner didn't even seem to care. While on the phone my father started getting upset for being disrespected and James (the owner) ended the call by hanging up on him. Customer Service should be on the top of the list for this company and treating my father the way James did when it was his own employee that gave the quote is poor business practice and poor customer service. We'll be going with someone else to have the work done with an estimate for repairs at a cost of $600.00 to $1,000.00. I called this company but it is actually only an answering service relaying information to local plumbers. They do not know anything about the plumbers they are recommending and will not be responsible, at all, for the type of work or treatment you will receive from the plumber. James came once before to my home and wanted to overcharge. I collected three different estimates and his was the most inflated. Since he did not like that I did not take him, he has been unpleasant and unpolite. Off course I would have never contacted again, but this Classic Drains answering system did not know of my prior experience with this guy. Do not hire a plumber through this company! Paid over 1,000 for minimal parts and about an hour of work that was supposed to talk a lot longer and be more difficult. Not using them again. It's been awhile since I've written Yelp reviews, but I wanted to take the time and do it for Classic Drains & Plumbing because of the outstanding experience I recently had with them. My family and I recently moved and the new house did not come with a washer and a dryer. Black Friday was approaching and I thought that was the perfect time to make a trip to Best Buy and buy those much needed appliances. I asked my husband if he'd like to join me on this (big) purchase, but he, being as interested in washers and dryers as I am in mud truck racing, told me I could just go and buy anything I liked. Well, to spare the reader from the whole story, I ended up buying a gas dryer when it turns out we didn't have gas hookups. Call it a "mommy brain" move (or, as I prefer to humbly call my moments like that a "dummy mommy" moment), but really it was not: I had heard him mention we had gas in the garage but it turns out he was talking about a gas line, not hookups. Anyhow, that's what happens when you tell your wife to go and buy anything she likes. The reason I went with the more expensive gas dryer (vs electric, which was $100 cheaper) was because I had researched the internet and it seemed that gas was more cost-effective in the long run if you do a lot of laundry, which I do with three kids in the house (um, I meant two kids and a husband, but same thing). That is if you already had gas hookups at home. My optimistic husband told me not to worry and that him and his brother would easily install the hookups themselves. Three weeks later and several "hanging laundry around the house" sessions (and friends who were so kind to let me use their dryer and even folded my laundry - so thankful for friends!) I concluded that if I wanted my dryer to get hooked up in this decade I needed to call a plumber (plus, I didn't want to risk blowing up the house having the rookie husband and brother-in-law do it). I asked around and was highly recommended James with Classic Drains & Plumbing. I called James and told him about our situation and asked him if he would be able to give me a quote over the phone. I knew plumbers were expensive when it came to gas and was scared to hear a huge number. But I was also so desperate to have my dryer hooked up and, thinking that I already missed the return window and that the store would not honor Black Friday sale prices, I was prepared to pay whatever that amount was going to be. Before even giving me a quote, James straight out told me that several years ago in California, gas indeed used to be much cheaper than electricity and it would have totally been worth it to have a gas dryer, but now with gas and electricity prices being pretty similar, it is not worth it for me to hire him and if I could get the dryer exchanged for an electric one that would be the best thing he could recommend. Wow! I could not believe it, a vendor telling me not to hire him because it would be better for ME? I have not encountered such honesty among service providers in a very long time! Just in case I could not get my dryer exchanged I did ask him to give me a rough estimate anyway, which he did explaining that it could be more or less than that depending on how far the gas line needed to go and how much work actually needed to be done, which made me even more amazed he was being so honest with me and willing to not have this potentially high-paying job. Long story short, I called Best Buy and they were very nice to do an even exchange. I didn't get the cheaper electric dryer model but got a one level up, which is still totally worth it considering that if I called some other plumbing company they could have just taken advantage of my naivete in the plumbing business and sold me their services. Although, James did not end up coming to our house, I was very compelled to review him on Yelp because of his honesty and integrity. I highly recommend him, because one thing I know for sure, he has his customers' best interests in mind and he's not like many greedy people out there who will do anything to milk your hard-earned cash. And one other thing i know for sure is, next time we need a plumber I am not going to look anywhere else! Thank you James for being so honest and saving our family hundreds of dollars! read more

The water heater leaked from the top of the unit. They were prompt and explained the cause of the leak and work that needed to be done. I explained I had a budget for the repair and they were willing to work within that budget. They brought the new water heater in, unpacked it, and disposed of the old water heater. They explained a quick overview of the new water heater operation and pointed out this model does not use a thermocouple. The time took roughly one and a half hours and were very professional. I have never used Classic Drains before, but I saw $90 for service call, vs $150+..I had to give them a try.. My water heater went out and it is 10+ years old, so I thought a new one was inevitable..When I talked with James on the phone, it seemed he thought the same thing..I told him I had left the garage door open for them, whenever they had time..Within 2 hours he called to say, he replaced a part for $25+the $90; my total bill was $116.. Now that sounds normal, but I am a single female & my "daughter" & I tried to fix it..He could have replaced the water heater, charged me $1000 plus, and I wouldn't have known the difference..But he "repaired" it for me.. I've used A-1 four times now, twice for slow drains and once to replace a water heater, and once to investigate a possible leak. They did all the jobs very well and were very reasonable with the costs. The plumber who investigated the possible leak was in coveralls and down into my crawl space within 10 minutes of arriving, There was no leak and I couldn't believe with all the work he did that the bill was still well under $100.00. I had a pipe leak in my garage the day after Thanksgiving. I called my plumber and he was out of town for the holiday weekend. I asked him for a recommendation and he advised me to call Classic Drains and Plumbing. I called them and told them my problem. They were quick to call me back and make arrangements to come out. This was about 2:30pm and Brian said he was busy with several appointments and wouldn't be able to respond out until around 7pm, but would try his best to come out earlier if he could. When I finally got here he was very nice and personable. He assured me that although it was after regular business hours he would charge me the regular rate because my call came in before the end of the business day. He also did not charge holiday rates. It took him about 45 minutes to fix the problem. And the cost was much less than I had anticipated. I'm very thankful for their help.
