Saying Omar the Handyman is good at his job is like saying Taylor Swift and Steph Curry are good at theirs. We had him tackle a significant makeover and paint job on our 122 year old cottage. Omar's bid was a good 20% higher than #2. We chose him because of how clearly he talked the details, from paint chemistry for a salt air climate to the right way to replace those old cedar shingles. He also had a new kitchen window created from scratch to match the ones in the rest of the old house. Over the 3 - 4 week project, Omar and his crew invariably left the place immaculate, no clutter, no mess. The answer to nearly ever request was "Yes, we can do that." While they are not cheap, the tab for all of the extras we asked for was fair. And we have no doubt that the work will hold up very well. The one good thing I can say is that my project was completed for the agreed to rate, which is the first time I've had this experience in the Monterey region. The estimate was the most comprehensive that I received, which did build trust even though it was on the high side. In retrospect, the labor rate was too high for the quality of work performed. "Omar the Handyman" didn't do any of the work, he farmed it out. For projects allowing more planning, I don't think that I would work with them again. Omar responded very quickly. We had an rock thrown through one of the small 4x4 windows at our front door. He sent one of his workers over the next morning at 8 AM. He worked quickly to remove the window, go get the glass, return and install it and glaze it. During the project, Omar came by to inspect the job. Not only is Omar a qualified "Handyman", he is an excellent licensed contractor. We badly needed someone to repair/replace some damaged crawl space vents which were allowing rodents to enter our crawl space and attic. We contacted Omar via Yelp. He responded quickly and set up an appointment to view the required work. Within a couple of days he gave us a reasonable estimate and a date to begin the work. He fixed the damaged vents with a creative solution that was better than the original design. About two months later we decided to have the exterior of our 3600 sq ft house painted. We included Omar in our request for bids. He quickly responded with a detailed quote listing all the required tasks and materials for the job. His price and estimated timing were very competitive so he got the job. The paint job took about three weeks. His team were always on time, have an excellent work ethic and did a quality job. They were very careful of the property and cleaned up at the end of every day. Omar communicated the status on a regular basis. Since then Omar has completed several other jobs including some internal spackling/painting, replacing a couple of exterior doors and patching/painting a basement furnace room.
