Tl/Dr: this is a PSA for the parking situation at this location. 5 stars for Dr. Lobaugh. -10000 stars for the location and parking garage. I was just getting comfortable riding the high of all green lights and zero traffic when I had the misfortune of entering the garage at 1700 N Moore. At first, it just looks like a normal garage. But as you ascend higher levels looking for parking you realize that's there are only like 10 parking spots per floor. Also notable is the fact that there were no elevators ... so I guess if you're disabled... better luck next time? I think I made it 3 or 4 floors before I decided to turn around (easier said than done because one lane for 2 way traffic) and find parking elsewhere. Luckily, I only encountered one other car coming while I was attempting going. I was going to make my way to the garage across the street but (surprise) the entrance on N Moore is employee only so take the entrance on N Lynn. So... 2 loops later, I made it into garage #2. Parking spaces were labeled weirdly, so I'm not even sure I parked in an allowed spot, but my car was still there after my appointment so there's that. I checked in w the security person at 1700 N Moore about the elevator situation and she said that the elevator was only available at certain floors of the garage. So ........ yeah. Also- Dr. Lobaugh is amazing. I followed her to NOVA optometry from her last practice in Arlington. Couldn't recommend a physician more. She's one of those people who just makes you feel like she gives a duck about you and whatever issue you're having. That's hard to find. She's basically the only person I'd ever come back to this god forsaken location for. read more

Keeping the peepers peeping is perhaps one of life's most important missions, and for that, Dr. Weiss is a treat Rosslyn is lucky to have! In some ways, viewing a master of craft is like an exquisite wine or cheese to be savored. Warm, comfortable, and confidently putting concerns to rest. Within minutes, Dr. Weiss disarmed what had been years of anguish and back and forth my teens. What was previously a battery of tests and experiments trying to diagnose "glaucoma" in a teenager was swiftly and adequately dispatched by accurately reading my mind and assuaging my concern from the moment the peeper was peeped. I've had nothing but a pleasant time with both the staff, Dr. Weiss, and the office in general. If you're in Rosslyn (or even want to drive in) it's a rare air were breathing! Dr. Weiss is a skilled practitioner. I came to him for an eye exam (re-exam) after two other optometrists at MyEyeDoctor could not seem to get it right. I had been wearing eyeglasses with a botched prescription for over a year. The Dr. took his time with me as a new patient, asked lots of questions and completed a brand new eye exam. The results differed from the other exams so no wonder my glasses were giving me headaches and issues seeing clearly - especially at night. Fast forward a few months, I've had my new prescription lenses for awhile now and have zero issues whatsoever. I am so grateful for Dr. Weiss and his friendly staff. The practice seems to have changed since Dr. Weiss joined the Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry last year. There's nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't have the personal touch that had made it so special. Dr. Weiss is still a good optometrist. What used to make the practice special was his warm manner, the time he took to show me pictures of my eyes, how the whole experience felt personal. Now there is no more chit-chat, no more taking the time. I'm not sure if that came from corporate or what. I didn't like the sharpish manner of the new receptionist, how she made a completely unnecessary comment about how bad my eyes were, though she seemed perfectly competent. Anyway, it's too bad. Still a perfectly fine place to go, but the experience is different now. read more

6 years since last visit, the quality is still great, Dr. Weiss is still very knowledgable and efficient with his exam. The staff is little better I feel. Dr. Weiss is a great doctor who got through my checkup and updated my prescription quickly, but I really want to talk about the optician, Loretta. She truly is the best I've ever been to. She picked out a frame I never would have considered in a style that fit me perfectly that was also the cheapest option while I was looking at more expensive frames. She knew exactly which lens options would be right for me, and talked me through the process efficiently without a bunch of graphs/price charts/etc. Beyond that, she was also just a very kind, patient, and lovely human being that got me excited about my glasses and made my whole day/week. I've gone here two years in a row, and I'll happily go back next year. The selection of frames isn't as great as one of the big chains, but they haven't tried to pressure me into buying frame from them, they just give me the prescription and I go to the mall to get the actual glasses. If you work any where in the area it is really convenient, and importantly to me, they take more insurance plans than the chain places. The doctor works quickly, but he is thorough and very pleasant. Although this isn't my regular eye doctor, I called and got an appointment that same day after I explained that I got some foreign bodies trapped under my eyelid. The lady at the front desk was very knowledgeable about my medical insurance, The optometrist who took care of me immediately found: the two foreign objects under my eyelid (two pieces of exfoliant from my face wash which I've since thrown out), a scratch on my cornea, and symptoms of allergies. She prescribed me eye drops for my allergies and antibiotic drops to prevent infection from the scratch. She patiently explained everything to me throughout the process. When I returned for the follow-up appointment, there was a different lady at the front desk and she seemed thoroughly confused by my insurance and my appointment, and she had to double check everything with the eye doctor. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Then, thankfully, the lady I met on the first lady returned and she took care of everything so I could get back to my office. read more

I like Dr. Weiss, he was thorough and really competent. The issue I have is with his staff. They had no idea how to apply the lenses to my VSP insurance. The person helping me said she would get back to me that afternoon, now two days and an email from me with no follow up. Just bad service. Dr. Weiss = 5+ stars Receptionist staff = 1 star Dr. Weiss is truly a caring and knowledgeable optometrist. He answers questions thoroughly which is something most doctors seem to avoid. I never felt rushed, but he was very efficient and uses technology to his advantage. In my decade of wearing contacts, no previous optometrist's office carried my specific type of contacts in stock; I was surprised that Dr. Weiss's had mine, and had 4 boxes of them so I didn't have to wait 1-2 weeks to have them arrive as usual. They provided me a rebate form for my contacts as well which helped save a lot on the cost. Plus, he was a triathlete before family life so it was really enjoyable chatting it up with him about our experiences. Bonus points for that! The receptionist staff...one particular lady is just incredibly disgruntled (in person and on the phone). Extremely curt - interrupts while you're talking acting as if she already knew what you were going to say so she doesn't want her time to be wasted while you say a few more words. Quite unhelpful and also acted as though I was being rude by waiting to check in while she chatted with her friend. Date: 06/10/2013 After my eye exam with Dr. Weiss, I came back to the office to check if Dr. Rothman in New York was in-network through my new vision insurance with CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield. It turns out she was in-network, and I should have set up an appointment with her to get all my usual tests. But, regardless the eye examination and experience with Dr. Weiss was not too bad. Pros: Absolute zero wait time (compared to the horrendous wait time at Manhattan Vision Associates in New York) Disposable sunglasses for dilated eyes Dr. Weiss preforms all the preliminary diagnostic tests himself (and not by technicians) Metro-accessible location Total appointment time from filling out registration paperwork to paying my co-pay was 40 minutes Cons: Lacking in advanced technology; no perimetry testing machine or non-contact tonometer machine One of the greatest pains I had to deal with while looking for a new optometrist in the DMV area was finding a doctor that would (1) include dilation as part of the routine eye exam, (2) offer reasonably-priced contacts lens fitting and examination, (3) carry high-end designer frames, and (4) offer weekend appointments. I found that many eye doctors in this area do not offer dilation as part of a routine eye exam unless you have diabetes, and contact lens examination were as high as $150. I narrowed down to a few doctors, and opted for Rosslyn Eye Associates because of the Yelp reviews. I e-mailed the office, and received a quick response from Dr. Weiss regarding my inquiry about dilation and contact lens. His exam can include dilation which was great because my co-pay is for a routine eye examination WITH dilation. In addition, the contact lens fitting and examination starts at $60 for single vision. Being close to the work office, I went in to schedule my eye appointment. The staff was nice and accommodating, gave me the option of setting up an appointment with Dr. Weiss or his associate, and they followed up with phone calls with reminders and insurance issues. They're definitely on top of their schedule books because an elderly patient came in wanting to schedule a semi-urgent appointment within the same week, but the receptionist instantly remembered and offered a same-day appointment due to a last-minute cancellation. We did the usual automatic visual acuity and refraction test with the "hot air balloon" and other manual tests with charts and lens... The office equipment is lacking because I certainly did not press a button when lights flashed as I would have if they had a perimetry test machine nor got a puff of air in each eye to measure pressure. Pictures of my eyes were taken, and Dr. Weiss pleasantly explained the health of my eyes, and even mentioned that I had a freckle on one. I didn't get a contact lens exam and "fitting" since I gave the doctor my history of contact lens prescriptions, so why did I pay the extra contact lens exam and fitting fee when he did not examine me with contact lens on my eyes? Hmmm... Anyways, Dr. Weiss was very friendly. He gave me a copy of my prescriptions and a pair of disposable sunglasses. There was no pressure from him or his staff to order new contacts, lens, or frames from his office. Overall, I am satisfied that I have my prescriptions renewed. read more

Dr. Weiss is like the Mr. Rogers of eye doctors. Not because he sings, but because he immediately puts you at ease and wins your trust - deservingly so. I'm very picky about eye doctors. I'm Asian, a.k.a. practically born near sighted, so I've worn glasses (then contacts) for as long as I remember. This means the eye doctor needs to be competent, because I need to not be blind and be able to drive myself places, and personable, because for the amount of time I spend at eye checkups, I just gotta like my doctor! Dr. Weiss? Check, and check. As a first time patient, he got to know my needs and habits with wearing glasses and contacts. We breezed through the eye exam, and he was very helpful in answering any questions I had, whether they be about eye health in general or about the possibilities of lasik. He even taught me what a healthy eyeball looks like and why! The most impressive part was, I took test lenses home for my new prescription and felt like my right eye was a little off. I scheduled a followup and Dr. Weiss re fitted me in under ten minutes to assist the axis for astigmatism. I was in and out just like that! The staff is friendly, and they don't push you to buy contacts through them. They are located on top of the Rosslyn metro and validate the building's parking. What more could you ask for? Is it just me or does Dr. Weiss look kind of like Harrison Ford when he takes off his glasses? Maybe I'm just crazy. read more

I moved to the DC area for school but needed an eye exam since my contacts were running low. I've used the same eye doctor for years now and was hesitant to go to a new one. Dr Weiss' staff were the nicest I've ever dealt with. Always available to help you on the phone, friendly in person, and answered all my questions. I only had to wait for maybe 5 minutes in the waiting room until Dr Weiss was ready for me. And Dr Weiss also was extremely pleasant, was interested in learning more about me, and the exam was pretty quick and painless. I was happy to see that the prescription I was given was what I'd have expected from my usual doctor. Ordering contacts with them was also painless. They even gave me the rebate form that was the best deal (mine was the rebate through my insurance company) and all necessary paperwork required for the rebate. Plus, they were willing to mail my contacts to me for free. Also, recently I decided I wanted to buy a pair of eyeglasses online and needed to get that prescription. I was worried Id need a separate exam for that since the focal lengths are different for glasses/contacts. But the lady on the phone said that Dr Weiss always does complete exams and that she already has it ready for me to pick up. And again she offered to mail or fax it to me if that was easier! So amazing!! If Im still in the area Ill be seeing Dr Weiss next year and will definitely be referring all my friends here. Best ever experience without a doubt! read more

Dr. Weiss is seriously amazing. I made an appointment for an annual exam, during which he asked if I had a family history of vision impairments. My mom has macular degeneration and he went out of his way to show me a model of the eye and symptoms to look for in case I inherit the disease. He also gave me a (much needed) updated prescription and adjusted my glasses for free. I never had a doctor who was interested in teaching me about medicine before. He took his time and seemed to genuinely care about my health. Needless to say, he's the best. If you have a chance to book an appointment, do it. You won't regret it. read more

I, too, was pleasantly surprised that Dr. Weiss was great - no nonsense, prompt, and he uses Mac monitors as the eye chart! Very 21st century. I also bought contacts from his office, as they were cheaper than 1800-Contacts, especially when you combine them with a rebate for buying a year's supply. Unfortunately, I've since changed insurance policies and they don't take all insurances (so check before you go), but if you're a CareFirst Blue Cross Blue Shield member, don't hesitate to give them a call. read more

I was due for my biannual eye exam and new pair of glasses, and I found Dr. Weiss because his office accepted my newly purchased insurance. He is clearly a skilled and practiced optometrist, and he was very amiable and friendly while performing my eye exam. After being given my prescription, I picked out a great pair of glasses. While selecting what type of lenses I wanted, I never felt like I was being upsold. In fact, I felt that Dr. Weiss's assistants were honest as to what were good options and what were not. Just had my first visit with Dr. Weiss. Great guy. Very personable! Never rushed and didn't give me "the lecture" when I told him I sleep in my contacts. Front desk ladies were nice and had a blast trying on frames. She knew I couldn't afford new glasses but she still took the time to educated me on what frames are best for my face structure and showed me the glasses to try on. And she's honest, if she doesn't think a pair looks good, she is nice about saying why she doesn't like them. read more

Excellent Doctor. I see no reason to give him anything less than 5 stars. This was my first time with Dr.Weiss, I reached a little early before my appointment time and the doctor me took me before my scheduled time. The best part was only one page of insurance details to be filled out. Since it was just an annual examination,I was following what he asked me to. Went through a series of screening tests. He makes you feel very calm and relaxed and does not rush at all for examination. He is more than willing to answer all your doubts. He also showed my pictures of both my eyes and explained to me what a normal and an abnormal eye looks like. The receptionist is very sweet too. What a nice guy! I like the convenience of his office and the fact that you're attended to promptly and with a smile. He was nice enough to help me fix a pair of sunglasses that was super wobbly, even though they were cheap, non-Rx sunglasses from Banana Republic, and he had no obligation to help me out. Every time without fail I have to go through a process of them finding my prescription. I went to see Dr. Schad at this office for my annual eye exam and saw Dr. Weiss for a LASIK consultation. Dr. Schad was by far the better doctor - she was efficient and knowledgeable and very thorough in her responses and explanations. Dr. Schad saw me right away whereas with Dr. Weiss he was slower and I had to wait a bit in the lobby. Dr. Weiss answered my questions as well but not to the extent or details Dr. Schad would go into. I'd recommend scheduling an appt with Dr. Schad instead since she's in the same office. read more

They participate in the EyeMed program providing $5 annual check ups for federal employees enrolled in GEHA dental. I was in and out in under 25 minutes. Very efficient, quick, and friendly service. It even included a glaucoma check and an exam of your ability to focus your eyes. Very high tech and clean. Very convenient location above the metro station on the third floor of the mall. They accepted credit card and handled all the paperwork with no issues. Dr. Shaw is also very friendly. read more

I've been wearing glasses since I was 3 and Dr. Weiss has been the only eye doctor I've ever seen. [Pun intended]. When I made the transition to contacts, he helped me pick out the ones that were best for me. Kind, friendly and very professional, he has no problems with having a small conversation and answering questions while performing an eye exam in a quick and timely manor. Ever watch that FRIENDS episode when Rachel goes to the Eye doctor? Yea, that's me! Totally me. I've always DREADED the eye doctor and as one of the fortunate "blind and cannot see squat without glasses/contacts" I need to regularly visit the eye doctor to renew my perscriptions and make sure my eyes are as healthy as can be. Finding an eye doctor I like is no easy feat. As a former "it took me almost 18 years to not have 3 grown men hold me down so the doctor could administer eye drops and i wish i was lying" I am VERY particular about eye doctors and all things related to eyes. So when it the time came for me to renew my glasses and contacts perscription, let's just say I was less than thrilled and needed to find a new eye doctor that was NOT affiliated by that nightmare MyEyeDr hellhole. First, check my health insurance list of providers and then look 'em up on YELP! Yep, I consulted Yelp with my healthcare needs and happy that I did. First, Dr. Weiss' office is conveniently located on the 3rd floor of the Rosslyn Metro. The front desk staff are welcoming, pleasant and competent. There is a section with glasses in stock and they can order your lenses but they do not pressure you whatsoever and encourage you to seek products that is best for you economically. I always DREADED visiting Dr. Siegel only to come out to vultures swarm you at MyEyeDr only looking to price gauge and extort money from you with such an arrogant attitude and disgusting customer service. Sure Dr. Weiss' digs may seem to be a bit outdated, but Dr. Weiss knows his stuff and is a great eye doctor at explaining the exam and equipment, is efficient in his examination, has a great bedside manner making conversation which if your nerves are on edge like mine usually are is much appreciated, and open to answer any and all questions you may have. I'm a new fan of Dr. Weiss! Only thing that irked me was that during my appointment with Dr. Weiss, the front desk women kept barging in. Once to gather papers from his desk and blocking the chart. Doctor would ask me, "can you read the last line on the chart." uh Sure doc, as soon as this lady moves her head because I don't have superhero eyes to see through heads. The second time, the other woman barged in pestering him regarding another patient who was on the phone. Instead of telling them, "I'm sorry the doctor is in with another patient right now, I can have him call you when he is finished" or something like that you know like most doctors. I did not appreciate the interruptions. One, I'm uneasy at the eye doctor as it is. Two, I'd prefer he focus as this is my eyes we are talking about. Three, if I was on the phone, I would not appreciate the doctor having to shift attention rather than focus solely on my issue, etc. Bottom line: Hey, it's MY doctor appointment but that's just me. read more

I was actually referred to Dr. Weiss from my doctor in Pittsburgh when I moved down here. I was not disappointed! I love the feel of a private owned practice rather than a huge chain store. Dr. Weiss is gentle and very mellow which makes for a nice, calm atmosphere. I actually got LASIK surgery shortly after my regular yearly exam, and he did all my post- surgery exams for a year after wards as well. Great doctor and I highly recommend him! Oh, and they validate parking in the garage below their building, which is great because street parking is hard to come by over there. read more

I've been going to Dr. Weiss for at least 15 years. He is thorough, patient, and knowledgeable indeed! But, It is time for me to seek another optometrist since lately ( in the past three years) it takes a long time to have appointment for a yearly exam. The last time, I had to schedule at least one month in advance. When I had eye emergency, I still had to wait for a month! The receptionists can be curt and inflexible. He uses techniques in his examination I have never had used on me before (and I've had eye exams all over the world) so I didn't have to dither deciding between lens 1 or lens 2 as he fine-tuned my prescription. His staff was very pleasant to me. The location can't be beat - literally on top of the Rosslyn Metro. I've always been able to get appointments at convenient times, even when I've forgotten to schedule in advance. They are also great at helping pick out frames in the office. I've been seeing Dr. Weiss for about 5 years, initially for regular check ups, eyeglasses, and contacts, and then recently for LASIK follow-up (and LASIK enhancement follow-up). I really cannot recommend him any higher. He somehow manages to be both quick and efficient but also takes the time to work with you, explain things to you, be thorough, and also gives you the sense that he truly cares about you as his patient. His staff is also great. I've seem Dr. Weiss about 15 times in the last 12 months because of LASIK follow-ups and it's the only doctor's appointment I've ever looked forward to. I've recommended him to about a half dozen people, including my husband who has some specific challenges with his eyes. read more
